This was our first stay at a self contained apartment in NZ and it was where we experienced the least level of satisfaction and service. Firstly the apartment does not have an office onsite and we didn't realise receive any instruction as to how to access the apartment. When we tried to call the owner, get phone was diverted to voicemail. It was at least half an hour before we heard back. Other disappointments included, bike as mentioned on website was not in usable condition, only 3 towels given for 4 people, dining area is not usable due to lack of heating, had to get our own toilet rolls, not a scheduled stop for ski shuttle, refused access to games room in the lodge when we needed entertainment for the kids on one rainy day, All other self contained unit we stayed in after pinedale, included pick up and drop off from our coaches' stops and not once did we need to self supply any essential items. A couple of pluses are there is a washing machine and dishwasher in the apartment.

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment and one of our party stayed in the lodge so we can comment on both parts of Pinedale. The service was great, Tim and Penny are very helpful and accommodating and helped us out with booking an extra night when we needed to. The lodge beds are very comfortable and warm and the communal areas are warm, cosy and well equipped. The apartment is even better, a home away from home it has everything from comfortable beds and heating to even books and board games. Very spacious too. Pinedale is easy walking distance to Methven. Would definitely recommend this place.

Room was very small, compared to other places I stayed at in NZ for similar price, like no room to put your bags on the floor, TV reception wasn't very good at all. Decor was very old. We got the private double, the only thing was that the room was accessed from outside the house, not inside, where all the toilets and amenities were, so you had to walk outside (in 0 degree temps) just to go to toilet and bathroom and loungeroom! I would probably stay somewhere else if I go back

Response from Lopez75, Manager at Pinedale Lodge & Apartment

Thanks so much for your feedback on our Budget Private Double Room. We are renovating this room in April, so it's nice and smart before the next winter season and working on providing space-efficient storage. As for it's size and situation, we will double check all our internet listings to make sure they say the Budget Private Double Room is small and off the verandah. Thanks again

We were a group of 15 golf women staying for two nights at over $600 per night for our group. We knew we were in a shared bunk room situation. Pros: Great space with lots of parking. We had the place to ourselves. Walking distance to the town centre. Clean bed linen and towels, even if you had to make up the beds yourselves. Dishwasher and good oven and fridges. Good shower pressure. Cons: No toilet paper at all. Not enough glasses or cutlery for our group despite being able to sleep more than 15. Not vacuumed or clean. Outside was disgusting with rubbish, long grass, weeds, unusable BBQ’s and overflowing rubbish bins. We had some trouble with getting in one time and phoned the owner multiple times, with no reply. Only two showers and two toilets, one with a non functioning lock. No firewood ready. It looked nothing like the photos on the websites. Many complained about the mattress comfort. They were just foam ones. Dishwasher still with previous guest’s dishes in it. They were washed though. Some dodgy looking electrical appliances and fittings.
The general consensus among our group was that it was unloved and the owners were just collecting the money and didn’t worry about anything else. With only a little expense and work, it could be good for groups like ours, but we won’t be coming back and I’d suggest you avoid it. There are other options in Methven.

Terrible. It was dirty and poorly maintained: - light bulbs not replaced - not enough cutlerly/bowls/plates etc - we had to buy from supermarket and the second hand store - bathroom had cobwebs and dust - the advertised pool table had broken pool cues so you couldn't play - pots and pans were dirty with grease - outdoor furniture was dirty and some of it was not safe to sit on - mattresses and pillows were hard and thin - there were massive rips and holes in some of the towels - no instructions were provided regarding gas and shower situation, so we all had cold showers for a couple of days So much potential to this lodge, so hopefully the property will get some love and care.

I booked a 2 bedroom apartment months ago and it has been fully paid for however I have needed to change the dates. For three days now I have not heard one word back from them to confirm the new dates requested through booking.com I have rung, text, emailed direct, and messaged through booking.com MULTIPLE times. I find this very unprofessional and certainly raises alarm bells. To others….I would be wary about booking this lodge.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. Read the reviews below. Booked at least 6 months ahead. We were never given access code and owner is uncontactable. Yard is unsafe for children and full of rubbish. Had to find alternative accommodation for 15 people for three nights late in the afternoon - luckily not ski season.

Don’t stay here. When we arrived, the place hadn’t been cleaned since the last people. Impossible to get hold of owners - eventually they returned my call (over two hours later). In meantime had to find alternate accom (Sat night in middle of ski season makes last minute accom diff to find and expensive). They agreed to refund the cost of the booking which I’d paid in full for. Still waiting on the refund … it’s been a week - despite numerous texts and phone calls….. never again.

We stayed with 4 adults on a boating trip for a long wk end. The apartment was perfect for our needs. Had everything in kitchen provided. Lounge had plenty of games/ movies/ books, and a very comfy big couch, made me wish I could stay longer to use them all. Beds were clean and comfortable. Shower had excellent pressure and soaps provided were great! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Very chilled hostel, open fires so cosy. Lots of more 'mature' people, not kids boozing all night and getting excited about a 'flouro' party. Great place to base a ski trip, or just to relax. Highly recommended.
