We stayed here in July for 5 nights with two children. The rooms are spacious, very clean and comfortable. There is a drying room for ski equipment, a great family friendly restaurant and bar in the same complex that we ate in most nights. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the location is right in the centre of Methven so close to lots of other restaurant options. Toast and cereal is available for breakfast in a nice lounge area which is a bonus if you are trying to get your family ready for the mountain early.

Booked in here for 2 nights in February on the good reviews on TA.
Found it was a great experience with my arrival being a tad early the very friendly lady let me check in to my room earlier.
She then showed me upstairs where I could have my complimentary continental breakfast the next morning.
Had dinner in the crossroads restaurant and bar.
It was a great price for a portahouse, salad and chips for 15$.*a Monday night special on the menu.
All in all from my room throughout the whole lounge area bar and restaurant it was spotlessly clean as.

Pleasantly surprised by the room offered at The Lodge. We had the first room on the left as you go upstairs. Good size room with great view of the mountains - and the famous "Blue Pub". A couple of things to be aware of though. The heater is incredibly noisy, so you won't be able to sleep if you have it on overnight. Also, the same goes for the fridge. With the proximity to the pub you will need to be aware there could be some noise on a Friday or Saturday night, but that's to be expected. Also, if you go there expecting to be able to order a cooked breakfast - as we did - don't believe the website about this being available. We were told "we only do that in winter" - so we had to go to local cafes for our breakfast. There is continental available, but even in Autumn a cooked breakfast is welcome and we expected we would be able to get one on site. Other than that, it was clean and well appointed with a large bathroom. I found the bed rather hard, but my husband - who could sleep on a brick - didn't have any problems. All in all I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room if you can, I think downstairs you could get some noise from above.

It was OK. It was close to the Blue Pub which was great and the beds were comfy. Expected the room to be bigger as we were a party of five and paying a premium.
Security a real issue. Back door to the hotel was open all night and we listened to the latecomers come using when the pubs closed.
The hotel was massively understaffed while we were there. I overheard the staff telling some other guests the reasons why. Felt sorry for the ones that were there working and doing their best.
If it was marketed as a backpackers rather than four star hotel my review would be different.

Stayed one night. Really friendly and extremely helpful Owners and Staff, exceptionally clean room, very comfortable bed, great attention to detail (hand towel tied in ribbon). Very reasonable rates. Only sorry it was such a short visit this time. Can highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying in Methven.

We stayed here for a few days for work recently just as the ski season was about to start. So we were luck y to get rooms as they couldn't fit us in when we returned a week later. Clean rooms, very friendly service and great bar food to warm you up after a cold day outside. Ideal for Mt Hutt.

I found this place to be below average for our recent stay. Our room was really tired looking, the carpet was dirty and there were limited amenities. Walls are thin and we could hear other guests coming back to their rooms late at night. I didn't find the staff to be particularly helpful. I'm not sure why this place gets good ratings - we have stayed in much better accommodation for a similar price.

Response from thelodgenz, Manager at The Lodge
Responded 11 Sept 2017
Hi Maretta2, I am very sorry you found your stay here at The Lodge to be below average - we aim for much higher than that. Our carpets are due for a clean and it is something that will be done very soon - unfortunately not all guests remove wet and dirty footwear over the winter and can become a big job for us every time we do it. The rooms are supplied with enough amenities but if guests require more then they are welcome to see reception to retrieve more. We have been doing up our rooms since we took over and we have started with things that needed the most attention. We are getting there we promise! Unfortunately there is only so much we can do with getting guests to keep it down when coming back late at night. It isn't elaborated as to why our staff were unhelpful so I can only apologise for you feeling that they were. We have had a very busy winter season with a lot of return guests and customers and if you return in the future I am positive you'll have a more enjoyable stay. Thanks - Management

My sister, myself and our 2 children stayed here for one night midweek and found the lodge very clean, warm and comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome, and found out on arrival we had a complimentary continental breakfast the next morning which was a nice surprise. We shared a triple room with a queen bed and 2 singles. The beds were firm but very comfortable. The room was spacious with plenty of storage. The bathroom was a good size with a shower over the bath. We would definitely stay here again.
We dined in the adjoining restaurant (there is 10% discount for Lodge guests), and our meals were nice (it was a curry night so the main menu wasn't available, but you are allowed to order off the bar menu and the kids menu) but we found the staff there a bit brisk - on walking in there about 4pm to see if we have to book we had a brisk "we're not open until 5pm!" said to us before we even said anything. On saying we were only enquiring if we need to book we had a better reception until we asked to see the curry menu (and to check if anything else was available, especially for the kids who aren't curry eaters) - we felt it was reasonable to see what was on offer to decide if we dine 'in-house' or go elsewhere. We decided to dine there and booked for the evening. When our meals were delivered to the table the waitress/kitchen staff who put the plate down in front of my sister said rudely "I hope you like this one better" or something to the same effect, which floored us as we didn't have any problems about our meals (they were still only being delivered to the table at this stage) so we gather she was confusing us with other diners who perhaps had a problem with their order. Overall the food was nice but the staff serving us let our dining experience down.

Had 3 nights with hubby and miss 7 for an early few days skiing at Mt Hutt. We were greeted warmly on arrival and on being shown to our room the lady wasn't happy with something in the bathroom so put us next door. To us, both rooms were spotless so no complaints! Big shout out to the cleaning team as during our whole stay our room was very clean and tidy.

The room was warm and after returning from a full day skiing, the owner/manager informed us he had turned out heater on for us which was greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Only downside to our stay would be that there isn't a hot breakfast and we didn't have time to go out as we were heading up the mountain. The breakfast room is large and it was very cold in there. Also the fridge in the room was very noisy when trying to sleep - not a game changer but after 3 days it was annoying us.

The location of The Lodge is great and walking distance to everything in Methven. Car parking easy and we had no noise from the downstairs restaurant/bar. We had an upstairs room down the end and I had emailed prior to our visit to ask for a quiet room. Was really happy that they had taken this into consideration. Little things like this make a big difference.

The Lodge is great and we would definitely stay here again.
