Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This could have been a really nice visit but the shared facilities for campers weren't clean. The garbage in the kitchen hadn't been taken out in a while, the shared bathroom was dirty. The site is in a goos location, very convenient, decent price, quiet.

A lovely little camp ground situated fight in the Methven township. Completely surrounded by trees so well protected from winds. The bathrooms were clean and had fabulous heaters set on timers. Staff were friendly and helpful.

After our flight was cancelled in Queenstown, we decided to drive home.
We arrived late at the lodge. So grateful for a warm, cozy clean room.
Had a great sleep in a comfy bed.
Didnt get to try the spa, but will next time for sure.
Epic views of the mountains.
The host was friendly and helpful.
We would definitely stay again.

Very dirty, from the cabins to the bathrooms to the kitchen. Nothing was cleaned over the 2 nights 3 days we were there. Found host extremely abrupt and not much help. Noisy pub down the road with late night music. Place was disgusting - will not stay here again

The place was lovely and the room we stayed in was great. It was close to the hub of the town and overall was a great experience. I would recommend an website update with more pictures of what each rooms looks like and the other issue we had was the room got quite stuffy even with the heater turned all the way down and the windows open.

Everything was great. Enjoyed having access to breakfast. Felt the walls were a little thin if you have noisy neighbours. Warm, comfortable close to shops and the mountain. Nice places to eat out in the town.

Service was excellent when we arrived and then just went downhill. We were put outside in an odd little room which seemed to be converted from half of thier garage. Good from some respects as we could have the heating on, which is not possible in the lodge as it is turned off at 10am & 10pm.
Small kitchenette, with very dirty implements & crockery. Room was damp & smelled of cats. Bed was small and completely clapped out.
Spa area looked great on the website and one of the reasons we chose the lodge but on closer inspection it was all outside and next to the smoking area, ie huge bucket of cigarette butts, so decided against it.
Very strict cancellation policy, we tried to leave a day early because of the awful room but were told we would have to pay the full rate for the room for the night we were not there. Completely ruined our holiday. Asked to move into another room, but were told that wasnt possible even though the lodge was empty.
Lodge was in walkable distance to Methven, very small but quaint. Couple of pubs and independant cinema that had french films, which was great for the down days. Also the new thai resturant was excellent.
Mt Hutt ski field also very good, drive up there was an experiance in its self! Went for the dinner in the stars which was great, seeing the groomers close up, going on a skidoo ride & food & wine was excellent too.
So overall excellent trip to methven, just avoid the absiko lodge!! Totally agree with some of the other comments on here that it is all friendly to start of with and then you just get stared at like you are invading thier space.

Hi fairey_queen, Luenne and I are shocked and disappointed that we did not meet your expectations with your recent stay with us. It is unfortunate that your issues were not communicated with us during your stay so we could remedy this. I will attempt to address these point by point here. On check in, we noted that your partner was rather tall – you were immediately given the opportunity to change to another lodge room with a firmer queen bed but in light of the fact that you wanted the convenience of the kitchenette, you said “he will get used to it” (your words). We assumed that you were happy with the compromise. You were very aware of the bed being a double (our only one) on check-in and exercised your right to stay in this room even with our offer to change. We were unable to find any “dirty implements or crockery” in this room. Last month we had the health inspector visit and were awarded 20 out of 20 marks for the cleanliness of our facility and our procedures. We display (by law) an ‘A’ grade food and kitchen registration certificate. Our procedure is after each guest stay; all crockery is washed in the lodge in the commercial washer at 80 degrees for 2 minutes to clean and kill any germs and then replaced. In light of your “room was damp” comments – we ran a dehumidifier for several days after your stay and were unable to extract an above normal amount of moisture from the room. There was a dreadful blizzard during your stay, and everything was very cold and wet as moisture was drawn into all rooms on people’s boots. Our rooms are well cleaned and do not smell of animals. Our carpets are regularly shampooed and deodorised. Pets ARE NOT allowed in any of our rooms at any time. Whilst we love animals, we appreciate that not all people do and some people are in fact allergic, so we maintain a “no pets” policy. Whilst we do not smoke and we have a strict no-smoking policy in all units, we do not discriminate against people who choose to smoke. Unfortunately, we do need to have ash trays in locations where people will congregate, or risk flicking of butts in gardens and in leaf litter potentiating a fire. The back of the lodge is one of four designated “smoking” areas. It is an open area and about 3 meters from the actual spa tub. We have a very clearly defined cancellation policy which does not differ a great deal from many other motels or lodges (Google “Policy Motel for several examples). Our cancellation policy is clearly displayed on our website, our booking engine (you ticked the box agreeing and understanding), our automated booking response and all emails from Abisko Lodge. This cancellation policy forms part of the contract you agreed to at time of booking. Whilst it appears ridged, we are flexible if given reasonable times to make changes and re-let rooms (as forms part of our policy). Your choice to leave because of the loss of skiing was your choice. Your contract with us was for accommodation, which was provided. We had no control over the blizzard which ruined your stay. The lodge was not empty when you asked for a room change – looks can be very deceiving as most of our guests were out enjoying their stay and not lamenting what could be if the blizzard would just stop. We were unable to change rooms for you as we simply had no room available – sorry. When you asked for a room change, we were asked if there was a problem, and none of the problems listed above were brought up. You never once suggested that you wanted to rooms change or leave a night early because of the room state, smells, or whatever. We are happy to re-discuss this and remedy this so your view of Abisko Lodge is restored. We strive for a positive customer experience at all times, but we realise that not all customers can be pleased. Thank you again for your review, it does ground us and makes us refocus on our client’s needs and expectations. Alex & Luenne
