Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staying in Fairlie on the last day of our 14 day South Island holiday. Looked up the local food options and decided on the top pub 2 minutes walk from our motel.
Meals looked great coming out the cook just needs to learn how to understand the art of cooking a steak I'll leave it at that.

Stopped by here for a meal. The bar staff (Mandy?) was very friendly and patient with those from out of town. Meal was ok and plenty of food. It is a great place for people watching as the locals use this a lot. There is a pool table too and they also do the stone grill dining option, which is a great experience.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks and some food on a Sunday while staying in Fairlie, Bar was comfortable and the locals said hello. Food looked good coming from the kitchen and everyone was happy with the meals. the chef seems to be pretty good and the meals were all huge, no complaints. Food was a touch expensive but there was not a lot of options as most other places close early.

This morning we had the unfortunate experience of having breakfast at the Bistro. There were 8 of us and arrived at 8.45. The orders were taken quickly. 40 minutes later 3 warm big breakfasts came out. These breakfasts were finished and 1 hardly cooked toast and 2 poached eggs, one egg was ok the other had raw whites of the egg that couldn't be eaten. One hour later one pancakes arrived which was ok. Another 15 minutes went by after I asked when the other 2 breakfasts were coming and was told 2 minutes, my eggs benedict was terrible, one hard egg and one almost raw egg with a very small amount of hollandaise sauce, the other pancakes could not be eaten as they were barely cooked. We obviously will never go there again.

Stayed here on a number of occasions for business. Rooms are tidy and simple but very homely. Highly recommend the chef margretts chicken burgers or the stonegrill mixed grill. Fabulous service and friendly smiles 😀

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting Lake Tekapo area and there was nowhere to stay in Tekapo.
The place is an old pub that the owners have only had for a year. It's a little run down in places but they are slowly putting it right.
The rooms are very clean, the beds comfy and the hosts are lovely people and are very accommodating.
It is relatively cheap for the area and pretty good value when you consider a simple breakfast is included - it makes a refreshing change to see they don't use cheap tea/coffee or bread.

The only reasons this didn't get 5/5 is because there are no real kitchen facilities (although we were loaned a hot plate and large pan to make food), the WiFi can be a bit slow if more than a few are using it and there can be a bit of road noise if you are at the front of the building.
However, don't let these minor things put you off - great budget accommodation that I would definitely use again if I came to this area.

We had a delicious meal at the pub- simple, satisfying and a generous amount. It was everything you want 'pub grub' to be and the bar staff were polite and helpful.
The burgers were fresh and loaded with salad, cheese, onion and beetroot (classic). The chips were fried in clean oil and tasted like hot chips used to from the corner chippie.
Very well priced and hits the spot

We stopped in for a lunch and a game of pool in the afternoon.

They did a gluten free grilled fish which was nice and great quality, but seemed a little expensive for what it was compared to other things on the menu.

The salad was fresh and tasty too, and heaps of beers to choose from on tap too.

We called in for a meal after a long days fishing. The pints were cheap and the steak reasonably priced. The roast was average. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking on the night we were there. I'm not sure what the alternatives are.
