Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My parents car broke down and they had to stay overnight and the most part of the next day till my arrival. Well, they really enjoyed that unexpected stopover - went for a walk through a beautiful avenue of grand old trees, visited the art galleries and even bought a beautiful quirky iron turtle. The owners of the motel were very helpful with the car and didn’t charge any extra for very very late checkout. Thank you!

I ended up changing my plans and approaching Kimbell from the opposite direction. i was also going to be later, but motel was accommodating about change in arrival time. This was good as I didn't to then have to rush. Strangely I ended up not seeing any staff during my comfortable stay. Sadly the place next door which was supposed to do a good breakfast was shut.

Old-fashioned and super-clean Kiwi motel from the 1960s and 1970s. A step back in time. Lovely and quiet, with helpful, friendly and unobtrusive hosts. Just a few paces from the Silverstream pub and its excellent food and beer!

Room Tip: Garden studio is the cheapest, but beds were rather too springy for our taste.

Older rooms but spacious, very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Owner was very friendly and had put the heater on in our room in anticipation of our arrival which was such a nice gesture. I would happily stay here again.

Building was dated but furniture was all up to date. Hosts were a mine of information about what to do and which days to do it on. We stayed three nights and are going to make it a yearly thing. Nice and quiet at night and night sky amazing.

Stayed with my dog for four nights. Room very clean and warm. Pub & Restaurant next door. Areas to walk dog very close. Short drive back to Fairlie and only 20 minutes to Lake Tekapo. Owners friendly and advised local areas to visit and provided me on updates regarding weather forecast so I could plan my day. Would definately stay here again. Totally recommend.

With lockdown travel restrictions lifted we booked ourselves a weekend away from Christchurch. Kimbell near Fairlie is close enough to get to after work on a Friday without the travel being burdensome. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Our hosts welcomed us. We enjoyed meals from the caravan and hotel next door. The short walk around Kimbell gave us much needed fresh air and a look at the running scenery. Well be back again as soon as we can.

We were looking for somewhere to spend a night between Wanaka and Christchurch. This Kiwiana motel ticked the box beautifully. The last half an hour of our drive to get there was in pouring rain in the dark. So it was so welcoming to be shown our cosy motel which the hosts had all ready and toasty warm for us. The linen was lovely on the beds. And although the style of the building is dated, the owners have made it really fresh and clean. A highlight was their recommendation of the Silverstream pub right next door. A good old farming pub. With a stack of gumboots left outside, it had a wonderful hum to the place. With our accommodation so close, we could enjoy a tipple and people watching of the tourists and the local farming crowd. Great food too.

Great wee motel so close to Mt Dobson Skifield. Has everything you need and expect from a motel. Friendly hosts with great local knowledge, Geoff is the weather guru - very handy when skiing. Lovely clean warm rooms with comfy beds. We will be back next ski season 😊
