Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This motel is no-frills, but has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and that includes good wifi as well. Not only great value, but the people who run this motel could not be more friendly. As a matter of fact, I think they are wonderful. Whenever I visit Fairlie, I stay at the Aorangi Motel, and that speaks for itself.

Clean, comfortable, quiet and convenient - just what we needed when in Fairlie. It is easily walkable to the town for meals yet easy to find and park the car. Good, friendly family business. Recommended if you are travelling through the area.

This is a quiet little motel. Easy walking to the grocery store, where we got supplies for breakfast. We had a small kitchen in our room. The pillows were very thick but there were thinner ones in the closet. Cookware needs updating. A spatula broke and the fry pan wouldn't sit flat on the stove. We had a comfortable night but it needs some updates.

Erin and Anne were so helpful to me as I waited several days for my Motorhome to be fixed. Their generosity made my wait a happy one. The rooms are warm, sunny, well appointed, & have mountain views

The motel has new owners from the last time I stayed in Fairlie (3 years ago). The service was most warm, friendly, helpful, and could not have been better. The motel is well situated, and is only a short walk into town. There is good wifi as well. It had everything there you needed for a comfortable stay. I was there for five days fly fishing for trout around this area.

Great family friendly place to stay. Clean, tidy and functional. Had everything we needed and more. Comfortable and welcoming family feel to the place. Really nice owners and staff. We arrived a bit later, but there were instructions at the office for us. Would definitely stay again.

I have driven through Fairlie many times over the years, but never stopped, yet alone stayed they. This trip, I decided to stay locally and chose the Aorangi Motel. I am now kicking myself for not doing this years ago! Delightful small motel, full of character. It is set back from the main road so absolutely no noise and hardly any light getting through the curtains, both of these facts gives you a good nights sleep, but of course, the very comfortable bed helps too! The rooms are very well equipped. It should be remembered that the building is of older design and some of the fittings are quite old - BUT, they still perform the function they were designed for and are part of the wonderful character of the motel. There is no need to modernise things if the original design still works - and for me, it works very well. To the owners: - thank you for providing such a great, characterful motel and thank you also, for the "treat chocolates" that were well appreciated!

The hotel is fairly easy to find with its large signage outside. The office is located at the rear of the property and there is a large area in front of it to turn vehicles around. There wasn't anyone in the office when we arrive but the blackboard did let us know which unit we were in. The room was already warm and it was quite comfortable. there was a single car park in front of the unit so it was fairly easy to get everything into the room. The room was quite spacious with a small dining area and a kitchenette. There was plenty of plugs around and the WiFi was easy to get on and decent. As Fairlie isn't very big, it was quite central to the town, being a few minute's walk away. It was also close to the museum. The driveway is off the main highway so it makes it a bit safer as the road adds a buffer. It was quite a nice stay. We only stayed overnight and there was no one in the office the following morning. I just left the keys in the room and texted the phone number as they weren't picking up the calls.

This was a bit of an unexpected find. Although a bit older, the unit was very comfortable, and the owner showed us where we could do our laundry, plus dry it, for no extra charge. Very reasonably priced, friendly and all we needed on our one stop visit.
