Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thanks so much to Jill and Lyndon for such a wonderful relaxing place to spend the weekend. Breath taking views, beautiful rooms and central to all the attractions in Gore Bay. Would definitely reccomend a stay. I will definitely be visiting Gore Bay Lodge again in the future.

Gore Bay is a great place to unwind and relax; especially if, like us, you’re on a mega tour of New Zealand! There’s not much to do here, but that’s the point! Gore Bay Lodge consists of just six apartments/studios and provided everything we needed. Surrounded by a well-tended garden and facing the sea, our first-floor studio included a kitchenette that was fine for breakfast preparation and snacks (small sink, fridge and microwave). Also a large comfortable bed and an east-facing balcony that offered great views and provided a delightful spot for breakfast. Spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. For dinner we can recommend the Cheviot Trust Hotel (which appears to be the only place in the area to eat!)

Clean and comfortable room for a night's stay. Beautiful view from the sliding glass doors and out on the balcony. Loved the two big mirrors in the room reflecting the view. Would have loved a screen on the sliding door so it could have been left open, room got quite hot. No shops here but Cheviot is only 10 mins away. Relaxing place would recommend.

Oh what a find! My husband and I escaped family life for a couple of nights and even though its only 1.5hrs from Christchurch, it felt like a different world. Room was spotless, bed super comfy and hosts very friendly but also respected privacy. The room had a fantastic sea view and we were also very lucky to see some dolphins playing not far off shore and some seals when we went for a beach walk. We took our own wine and nibbles and room was equipped with plates and utensils which was great. There are no restaurants or cafes at the beach (which in my opinion makes it more of a special hideaway) but only a short easy 10min drive is Cheviot which is well equipped with supermarket, restaurants takeaways etc. We had a couple of hours of rain but it was lovely sitting and watching the stormy sea through our huge balcony window. I would not hesitate in recommending this as a fantastic option for a relaxing stay

We stayed at Gore Bay Lodge for one night. The room was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped (with a small kitchenette area). It was spotlessly clean and the shower was great. Our room overlooked the beach and the views were stunning. We enjoyed hearing the waves at night and watching the sunrise from the balcony in the morning.

Gore Bay Lodge has an enviable beach side location with memorable sun rise view over the sea. The room was very comfortable and well appointed, and the owners were very friendly. Ideally located for relaxing walks along the beach. If you are travelling south from here, the Mainline Cafe at Domett is superb for breakfast.

The accommodation is beautiful, the owners are so welcoming and the scenery from the room is stunning. We found the motel by chance and we would strongly advise anyone to stay. It was one of the most wonderful experiences of our holiday, thank you for helping to make our trip to New Zealand so memorable. Ron & Irene Middleton

Just what I needed-some quiet time with a view before Christmas madness descends...and we got it.Spotless rooms, respectful and hosts who let us have privacy when we needed it and soooo lovely - nothing was a problem. Best view in the world and Gore Bay is still a secret from the world.

The cooking facilities were great for what we needed. Really big room and great views from the massive windows. Only 1 minute walk from the beach and the beautiful ocean. Would reccomend as a good budget place for a family.

This lovely property is on the beachfront and would be a restful place for a longer stay. There are rooms on three levels and noise from other guests was not an issue. The room was clean and large with doors onto the balcony and the sight and sound of the waves was delightful. We were able to prepare microwave meals but it would be a good idea if the council could install a BBQ in the beachside park. Cheviot is only a couple of minutes away if you want to eat out. Not really much to do here but perfect for a relaxing get away.
