Detailed Reviews
On a campervan trip around the top of the South Island, we fluked upon this hidden gem . It is off the main highway so is easy to miss but it is a superb little motor camp. We were warmly welcomed, It is secluded, quiet, has well kept grounds, and lovely scenery around it. There is a range of accommodation types available, and the kitchen, laundry, and toilet facilities are clean and well stocked (my daughter tells me that the ladies’ toilets are the best she has seen; the men’s shower room had lovely fluffy towels and plenty of very hot water). Kids loved the animals and birds wandering around, the trampoline, and the extensive avIaries with a range of brightly coloured occupants. We decided to make this our base for next year’s trip in this area.

We were on our way back from kaikoura and our campervan broke down…in the mountains ( which we rented in Auckland) Wendekreisen Campervan Rentals was great and had us on the road again in a rental car.
It was 8pm… and we needed a place to stay, quick!
Campmate app showed a place in Cheviot, that could meet our requirements… as we were a group of 4, two still in a campervan and 2 that needed a room.
We loved it so much we stayed two nights! Our hosts were welcoming and helpful!
Gardens are beautiful, facilities ( washrooms, showers, communal kitchen and laundry)were spotless… and lots of animals to visit and see on the property… sheep, exceptionally friendly goats, chickens, turkeys, and Guinea fowl! We even had a hedgehog wander by our room!
Office has a few sweets etc for purchase as well as fresh eggs!!
Close to Gore Beach… and other things to do, including Cathedral Cliffs.
It was a wonderful place for all of us to recharge after 3 weeks of traveling around New Zealand
Thank you Cheviot Motels, Cabins and Camp!!

We'd planned on staying at Gore Bay, both the campsites there were very small and really full so we headed back to Cheviot. We saw this campsite on Google Maps and thought we'd check it out - what a find!
The gardens were really pretty and beautifully kept, there was a swimming pool (an extra bonus as it was such a hot day), the plots were really spacious and the owners were really friendly and welcoming. The facilities were fairly basic but clean and tidy, the site had that feel campsites had when we were kids, a really nice atmosphere.
We'd definitely recommend this site to others, it was probably the nicest campsite that we'd booked into this holiday 😀

We stayed in a campervan with 3 young kids and the place was welcoming and tidy. However the next morning our kids were able to visit the birds, pat a horse and feed some lambs and for them it was one of the highlights of the whole trip. The owners did not have to go out of their way for a group just "stopping in" but they did and it was very much appreciated.

We stayed a few years ago in one of the motel units which was surprisingly good, renovated & immaculate. Over the last few years we have returned in our motor home & just love the place ❤ The old donkey roaming around, a peacock & turkey coming to visit us 😀 Immaculate showers & facilities...we always make a point of staying here on our way back to Nelson. Very reasonably priced, lovely hosts - highly recommended.

Looking for somewhere for my last night before flying from ChCh I stumbled upon the Cheviot motel and holiday park and rented a great little cabin. Sunny afternoon, peaceful, off the highway so it felt like you're out in the country. I had two swims in the pool and walked to the pub for dinner. The park owners are lovely people, it was nice to see the old dog, cats and a donkey wandering around. There were pears, nectarines and grapes for the picking, and a big aviary full of all kinds of birds. Plus horses to pat. The cabin had all I needed, short walk to the bathroom. About an hour an a half to the airport.

A very pleasant Caravan Park in a quiet country setting. The showers were hot and powerful and a bathmat was supplied. The camp kitchen was spacious and well equipped and the grounds green, quiet with plenty of shade . We were very impressed.

This motel exceeded all expectations! The hosts were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable. The location is absolutely perfect – close to everything yet wonderfully private. The rooms were spotless, and the entire property was immaculate, with beautifully maintained grounds offering a peaceful, secluded vibe. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a perfect getaway!

We were on the road from Christchurch to Blenheim, and decided we would stay the night in Cheviot, after a trying and exhausting day. Found the motel, and what a gem. Friendly manager, spotlessly clean motel unit with everything we could need, including a comfy sofa outside in the afternoon sun to sit and drink our coffee on, while watching the donkey grazing. Lovely gardens. Loved the fact that they provided a little book for guests to write comments in, and all were very favourable. Definitely a motel to go back to if we are in the area again.
