We spent our first night at Cathedral Hills and it really surpassed our expectations.
Lyn and Collin were such friendly hosts and their property and location were jaw dropping.
Our upstairs large SC ensuite room was tastefully decorated and breakfast was very tasty.
Collin showed us around their beautiful gardens and even picked some fruit for us to take on our travels.
We look forward to staying there again in the future.

Myself and my partner and 6 month old baby have just returned from a weekend away in gore bay. Host Lynne and Colin made our stay a warm and welcoming. The b&b has spectacular views over the ocean and coast line cathedral cliffs is a hidden gem and we look forward to returning. We chose the kitchenette room which was huge, plenty of room for all our baby gear. Lynne kindly offered the next door vacant room to put baby to sleep in. Amazing views from the huge windows and decking. We enjoyed being cosy in front of the gas fire. The bed and linen was so lovely and I had a great night sleep. Next morning we were treated to beautiful sunshine 15 degrees in July and we took a full cooked breakfast on the deck in the sunshine taking in the magnificent views and gardens - priceless! Yummy homemade jams, sausage bacon and eggs from chooks - heaven. Thanks Lynne for a wonderful stay we will definitely be back, cathedral cliffs was the perfect getaway from Christchurch for us we felt a million miles away :::))

Beautiful house, lovely gardens, stunning view, spacious room (ours had a large roof terrace), charming hosts - what more can I say?

Gore Bay is really special - but there are no restaurants or shops - so you will have to travel to Cheviot (10 mins) or cook in your room if you want to eat

Room Tip: One of the two rooms faces the sea and has a roof terrace - get it if you can.

My wife and I were working our way south along the coast from Picton/Blenheim area and this area was a good stop for us. Our room was lovely, large and clean. We wished the weather was not so dreary as we didn't have a chance to enjoy the lovely terrace right outside with table and chairs. The fantastic sea view out the other side of the room made up for that however.

Colin and Lynne were wonderful hosts and served us a great breakfast. There is an added charge here for a cooked breakfast as opposed to continental but it's well worth the $7 NZD per person in our opinion. They shared a lot of useful info with us and invited us to explore their fabulous and very extensive gardens where we picked a few tasty citrus fruits to take with us, the same fruits that go into the yummy jam and marmalade served with breakfast.

The town of Cheviot, 15 minutes away, is the main option for dinner and at a minimum there is a hotel restaurant and a takeaway fish and chips place there with really good and cheap eats.

Only downside to this B&B is that Wifi in the room is weak and per Lynne's advice one needs to sit out in the stairwell to get adequate reception - an adequate enough arrangement for our needs.

We contacted Colin and Lynne following the Kaikoura earthquake and it appears that their place is sound which we are very happy about. We do hope that the quake problems will not be harmful to the tourism in this area which is a very lovely area.

Lynn and Colin are amazing hosts. Not there when you want to be on yourself, but when asked they come forward with such nice stories of the life and faring, and gardening etc. in the paradise they call home and so generously share.
Go there, because I cannot describe how good it is in this 290 characters.
If you love gardens, birds, and stories about countrylife, go there. If you want a super luxury appartement, large, with all facitities you would want, go. If you want a modern bathroom with the most amazing oceanview: go there. If you want to eat your breakfast with the eggs scrambled and poached by Colin and marmalades and jams from their garden: go there and enjoy !

Tranquil, lovely views and a big garden to explore, plus home-made kitchen items for sale.
This is off the beaten track but well worth a visit especially as it is named after the nearby Cathedral Cliffs and the extremely pleasant Gore Bay.

A great place to stay at very short notice. Colin & Lynne were great hosts. Very clean and attractive room which was very well appointed. Although cloudy on the day we were there, there were great sea views. Colin cooked up an excellent breakfast - no more food required until evening meal.

Set in five acres of land, the large family home is positioned to capture fabulous sea views, both of Gore Bay and out to the wider Pacific Ocean. The guest rooms are upstairs which provides for the best setting. The room we had was very large (even by hotel standards) and the private balcony a plus. As the property is down a long drive you get no traffic noise. We left the windows open and went to sleep with the sound of the sea.
We paid the extra for the cooked breakfast (in the hosts dining room) and were not disappointed. We took advantage of the offer to walk the grounds and sample fruit from their trees. The hosts, Lynne and Colin are very friendly and welcoming. We expect to return again.

The place to stay when visiting Gore Bay and the surrounding area.

A choice of two rooms - we chose the larger room with the queen size bed as it had cooking facilities (which is helpful if you do not intend to dine ten to fifteen minutes away in Cheviot) and a magnificent deck which we spent most of the evening sitting on enjoying the incredible views. The room came with an assortment of yummy coffees and hot chocolate and we were impressed with the fair trade organic plunger coffee. Small juices and a few bikkies were also a nice touch. A lovely large bathroom again with an incredible view and everything you needed. My only suggestion would be for the toiletries to be replaced with an environmentally friendly variety such as Eco Store to keep in with the beautiful surroundings. We were invited to walk the grounds and help ourselves to the fruit in the orchard. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained, worth the walk!

Colin and Lynne were excellent hosts, helpful but not intrusive. They made us an excellent breakfast the next morning (the cooked breakfast is an extra $7 and recommended) which we enjoyed on the deck while taking the view in from a different angle.

It was incredibly hot the night we stayed so a fan would be helpful in the summer months and also some bug spray if the window and doors are kept open. There is limited internet and phone access so plan to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings when you visit. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, it was incredibly quiet and an easy 90 minute drive from Christchurch. There is no sign of the earthquakes and we will certainly return,

We stayed two nights in this lovely B&B, making time to stop and get to know the Cheviot area. Next thing we're in the local golf tournament and welcomed at the club barbecue, and taking a couple of easy local walks. The view and the garden of Lynne and Collie's home is a destination in itself.
Staying here at Gore Bay it was easy to visit the Hurunui river mouth homebound, in the past we would have just scampered down SH1.
