Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great lodge with excellent food, excellent facilities and caring/informative staff. Family of 4 stayed in 2 rooms for 2 nights and enjoyed every minute. Neal (the property manager) gave us a great several hours with his herd of sheep, including shearing one for us. Several enjoyable hikes/activities, including kayaking. We highly recommend the lodge

Absolut great stay. Beautiful rooms fully equipped. Delicious food. And very friendly, helpful staff. Very personal touch as the owners are on site. Free introduction to Merinos Sheep Farming (must do). It is so interesting, funny and you get so much information. Also the offered walks are extremly exciting. The walks are great. If you are a little bit in shape, you will be faster than the specified time.

This is a wonderful place with hospitality, good food and service with a killer view! Two days is not enough. The sheep talk is excellent as were the dogs! We had all kinds of weather but they have a great drying room so all is good. Rooms are clean and comfortable!

We were blown away by the location, hospitality, facilities, food and everything about the place. The owners and staff could not have been more helpful. We were treated like special family members. The inclusive meals were superb. The complementary excursion/talks, were again something special. Yes, it’s not cheap, but the whole experience was worth every penny.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much at WL-AP in December. Michael and Hannah's (proprietors) hospitality was wonderful. Neil (farm manager) gave a tour of their working sheep farm; sheering a sheep while sharing his 40+ years of merino wool expertise. Jonathon (on-site guide) led us on two on property hikes sharing his incredible knowledge of the area flora and fauna. Dinners were delightful; rooms very nice and comfortable. Proximity to Arthurs Pass NP makes this a must stay destination.

We spent two nights at the Wilderness Lodge and loved every minute. It is a small, intimate lodge situated in a simply stunning valley. The rooms have stunning views, are nicely decorated and well-equipped. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner -all our meals ranged from great to excellent. We took advantage of a couple of hikes, a sheep farm tour and kayaking on Lake Pearson. All the activities were well-organized. Trails are very well-marked and the lodge provides detailed maps to make it even easier to find your way. We were particularly fond of the staff at the Lodge. Jonathan, Hannah, Michael and others were incredibly kind, knowledgable and helpful.

Our good-size room had a wonderful view of mountains. The room was very quiet and very dark at night. The room had a nightstand and light on each side of bed, closet, bench, mini-fridge, coffee and tea makings, desk and chair plus two easy chairs. There was no TV. The bathroom had a toilet, shower, and sink. There is a guest laundry plus a boot/coat drying room which was much appreciated after a day of rain. The excellent breakfast started at 7:30 am. Dinner did not start until 7:30pm. Both meals were included in the price as well as a guided activity. The demonstration of sheep herding and shearing was very interesting.

The Wilderness Lodge is so much more than a place to stay and enjoy the spectacular view of the Southern Alps. It is an adventure headquarters. It is a working sheep ranch with guided tours and sheep shearing demonstrations. It is gourmet dining experience in a room with floor to ceiling windows framing the snow-capped mountains. It is all you could ask for...and more.

We loved our time here. Our very large room with a lovely view of the mountains and a fireplace and sofa was great. We wish we could have spent more time and explored more of the area. Michael was a wonderful host and took us on a star gazing tour which showed us more Southern Hemisphere stars (and galaxies) than we had ever before seen.

A first class accommodation in the middle of the National Park. Plenty of actvities if you want to do them, or comfortable surroundings if you don't. Great food and a well-stocked bar too. Our second visit and hope it won't be the last.
