Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stay here going back a few years.

Allocated room was very tidy, very modern, spacious with awesome faciities.

Countdown and other shops very handy across the road to replenish supplys.

Great shower pressure with all the bells and whistles to suit our needs.

Older style motel room (they do have more modern), but for the budget minded, the price is very good.. Clean, Spacious, and updated kitchen facilities. Good beds and shower, All sports channels on Sky TV. Surprisngly large complex but you woudln't think it from the road. Good host Barry, but the boys at the Railway Tavern later on that night were wondering you were.....Cheers, Kev.

We have stayed at this Motel for the last 4 years when we visit family in Christchurch. The last stay was exceptional, the units have been upgraded and the new furnishings and decor has improved to a very high standard and so as a result of that trip we are so happy to add a reveiw to this site. The motel is situated in an ideal location as it is on the way to Kaikoura and also Hanmer Springs both of which are our favourtie desitinations. So thank you Brent and Team for always making our stay so welcoming and we love what you have done with the recent upgrades to the units.

This is a nice little place with a decent camp kitchen that is well stocked. The grounds are nice and level and the staff are very friendly. The amenities were being renovated while we were there so there was only one shower in each bathroom, but I'm sure this will be finished soon and make it a good spot to stay. The prices are very reasonable.

Had a great time here. Extended family used three units. We were a bit wary because of previous reviews, so will only list the positives as they may be more helpful. Good location - we went to Amberley Golf Course; Railway Hotel, Amberley; Orana Park; Rangiora Aquatic Centre; Greta Valley; Hanmer Springs; and winery tours, etc. The motels have a child-safe trampoline, and a slide. The washing machines were only $2, and the weather was great so no driers required. The units had comfortable beds, good kitchens and shower areas, and there is a new complex, including Countdown, across the road. Parking was outside the units so easy to load/unload gear and children. Amberley is larger than we expected, and, although the motel is on SH1, we didn't have any traffic noise disturbing us. Note that Amberley Beach is mainly shingle, but a local said it was safer than some others as it does not have holes.

This may be an older Motel without all the 'modcons' but what really makes this Motel a pleasure to stay in, is the warm welcome and very helpful owner who went out of his way to help find me accommodation the next day. Everyone was friendly with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The free 2hours of WiFi was much appreciated. My unit was very clean which I was thankful for as I have stayed at unclean places before and never been back. A clean Motel makes you more comfortable.

We travel in a camper van RV normally but were in the car for this one which we found pretty good. Ambers is quite a nice rural town with friendly people in the motel, the shops and everywhere but the petrol station. We had been told by friends it wasn't much but would do for the night but our own experience was that it was of a recently re-decorated, built for purpose pleasant environment which compared to other places is favorable in terms of value for money.

It gave us what we needed for the night, a place to sleep. Room was in reno mode but we managed. Service was alright. Room clean enough but again duva with no cover and again how mqny bare backsides might have sat on them before they get washed.

the new reburbished studoi unit we stayed at was well presented with plenty of space. double glazing would have helped cut down the traffic noise from SH1 - its so close you really notice the steady stream of trucks going past all day & night

The only motel we have ever left early. And we've stayed in plenty.
Only supposed to stay one night on our trip back home from a south island experience but sadly, this place was an experience we wish we had'nt had.
Why ?
Well, the website claims ( and looks ) to be modern and well equipped. All the mod cons and a great stay. We ended up in a unit that should have been pulled down. As soon as we walked in it was just filthy. Questionable stains all over the sofa, the windows were dirty and grimy - the toilet and shower - just really bad.
But really it was the age of the decor. The bed linen ( and presumably the bed ) looked like something my granny had when I was 5 ( Im now 40 ). It smelt like it too. The kitchen was ancient.
Ok it was REALLY roomy and very big - and if they'd have decked it out properly and cleaned it, it would have been perfect.
Indeed they had been doing that elsewhere in the motel - a few units had been done up very nice - however, we were due to pay $150 for one night and put up with total substandard rubbish. Come one guys - you simply cant do that.

The site itself was also bad. The pool looked delapidated, the playground was falling to pieces ( my kids wouldnt go on it ).
We left after 30 mins - we couldnt stand it any longer than that. At least the owner was gracious enough to let us go without any fuss.

Really bad.
