Can't fault it, brilliant and it has beautiful gardens and central heating which we were impressed with. They have thought of everything! Beer and coke all free. Wonderful.

We sadly only spent one night at Kokiri and would have liked to have lingered longer to take advantage of the wonderful garden, accommodation and attentive hosts, Graham and Pat. The bedroom turned out to be a complete suite with sittign room, kitchenette and verandah - all immaculately presented. Pat was delightful and made us very welcome. Breakfast with Pat and Graham catered to our individual tastes and they provided us with lots of fruits and home made jams from their garden. Would certainly stay there again.

My husband, 2 children (12 & 9 yrs.), & I stayed at the Kokiri Bed and Breakfast for our last 2 nights in New Zealand from 1- 3 April. Pat and Graham gave us a warm welcome and the accommodations were lovely. Freshly cut hydrangea were even put in the room for our arrival. The room had a separate ensuite, queen-sized bedroom and another room with a double sofa bed and twin bed and small kitchen area. The room had everything we needed from an alarm clock, shower gel, shampoo, creme rinse, and other incidentals. We were also served a nice continental breakfast each morning. They even provided us with a "breakfast-to-go" for the morning we departed at 4AM for the airport.

The location was also very good for us. We spent one day at the thermal pools in Hanmer Springs (about 1 hour away) and the other day touring the vineyards, Athena Oil Grove, and lavender fields - all within 5 - 20 minutes away.

We got a great welcome and our room was large, well furnished and slightly English. Our hosts Graham and Pat could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was a joy, home made this and that. We had breakfast with them and it was a pleasure.

Kokiri Bed and Breakfast, what a rare and wonderful find!
A beautiful house built in 1914 with an extension to the side of the house which is a very homely and most comfortable self-contained and very private B&B. We slept so well in the lovely bed with pillows you could sink your head into. Very important when you’re on holidays!
Beautiful English manicured gardens. What a pleasure to sit in our lounge room, French doors open, glass of wine in hand enjoying the surrounding gardens.
Pat and Graham were our wonderful hosts who invited us into their home to share a very nice breakfast together, so friendly. We could have stayed longer if time had permitted.
We highly recommend Kokiri to anyone looking for an outstanding B&B in the Amberley area north of Christchurch.

We came to this B&B expecting a standard experience. Instead, we've happened upon a great experience. I'm writing this whilst sitting on a beautiful settee overlooking part of a fantastic garden. Yes, we're still at the B&B the evening before we try the breakfast but I wanted to get the review down early. We've ordered breakfast and my expectation is that it will be very good. Continental only which is fine.

Our hosts, Pat and Graham, were very welcoming. Together with their two lovely mini long haired dachsunds.

Our room - make that 'our apartment' - adjoins the 1914 house although it's only 40 years old itself. It comprises a seperate lounge (two settees, dining table and chairs, coffee table and small tv), small kitchenette (fridge, microwave, cooktop, kettle, plates etc.), separate bedroom (queen size bed, side tables, wardrobe etc.), and a separate ensuite (shower, basin, toilet). Iron, ironing board, tea, milk etc. also provided.

And all immaculately clean.

We surrounded by the most gorgeous gardens with lots of roses and other plants plus an extensive lawned area.

It really is a fantastic place to stay.

Highly recommended.

We arrived at Christchurch Airport after a 10-hour flight, picked up our car and drove to Amberley to spend a night at Kokiri B&B before heading on to Kaikoura. Pat and Graham Shaw are such warm and welcoming hosts. Pat told us the one thing we needed to know about New Zealand was that everything is relaxed and everyone's casual and we wouldn't have to bother about dressing up for anywhere. Over the next 10 days we found that she was right! We had a very comfortable room with bathroom attached, living room and an equipped kitchenette. Everything was spotless. Our living room and bedroom had great views of the garden, with lots of flowers, greenery and a swing on a rope that was irresistible. There is also a larger garden on the other side of the house, with fruit trees, more flowers and a dove cote. The next morning we had breakfast which included an array of home-made jams and preserves and after some good conversation and pictures with Pat, Graham and their dogs Whiskey and Ellie (hope I spelt that right), it was time to go. Amberley itself is a quiet stopover close to the Waipara wine district, with a desolate pebble beach that we walked along enjoying the sea breeze, seagulls, peace and quiet. Overall, there could have been no better way to start our holiday.

gorgeous gardens, great continental breakfast (several home made jams and preserved fruits) and fabulous playground for kids across the street. very quiet. everything very clean. home made cookies and beautiful bouquet of flowers were awaiting us. would suit couple or family of up to 5 though could feel crowded with that many. We had two kids and it was fine.
