Rutland Hall Hotel and Spa, nestled by Rutland Water, captivates guests with its beautiful grounds and picturesque views, although some visitors have difficulties with parking. While the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks for its immaculate rooms and pristine surroundings, opinions on the atmosphere and room experiences vary; the ambience is often described as lacking personality and rooms receive mixed reviews. Stayed for one night whilst on a short break. The location is stunning and a stroll down to the bottom of the grounds takes you straight onto Rutland Water. The spa facilities were not in use during our stay due to renovations. We stayed in a cosy (tiny) room in the annex; bed was comfy and bathroom was clean and because we were only staying one night we overlooked the fact we had a terrible view of a brick wall. Rutland Hall is a beautiful old building but the decor inside is completely out of keeping and in my opinion gave the place more of a feeling of being in a Premier Inn. The lounge in the main building is cold looking and garish which was disappointing as we were expecting something traditional with a nice cosy fire. The restaurant and bar are situated away from the main building and again, carpets, upholstery and furniture that felt more in keeping with an airport lounge. We had a decent meal (food and wine are expensive) but service was poor and we had to send a meal back because it contained an ingredient my partner has an intolerance to which was not mentioned on the menu. The buffet breakfast was very good with a great variety and delicious bacon and sausages. Overall I wouldn’t return as we found the place a little soulless and lacking in atmosphere.

My wife and I (retired couple) recently returned from a two night mid week stay at Rutland Hall Hotel.

Our room was a first floor room with a small balcony overlooking the main hall and with a minor view of the lake. The room itself was very clean and tidy with a comfortable bed and decent bathroom. Only minor niggles were that the bathroom sink had no plug and the kettle and tea making facilities were a little awkward as there was no room by the kettle to place the tea cups. We were intrigued by the wall pictures which also served as room heaters, not seen that before.

We used the Blossoms restaurant for breakfast and dinner on both days. Breakfast was the typical buffet affair. It was adequate although the cooked food was not particularly warm, in fact on both days the beans were stone cold with little sign they had received any heating at all. Food at dinner was very nice and very well cooked and presented. Service at dinner was friendly and pleasant but a little slow at times. I did feel the food was overpriced with mains starting at around £24 and desserts £11 / £12. Almost London prices really. The cheese and biscuits at £17 was a surprise particularly as it was a pretty average example of cheese and biscuits. I felt the layout and ambience of the restaurant was OK for breakfast and lunch but really needs upgrading for a more sophisticated dinner experience. There are a number of pleasant booths but then an assortment of different shaped "canteen" tables in some cases too close together. Having table cloths on the tables would make it slightly more pleasant for dinner. Also seemed very hit and miss whether you had condiments on the table, some did, some didn't.
Overall we enjoyed our stay despite the minor criticisms detailed above. Would score as a 3.5 if you could but have given a 4.

Dear MickeyTheBoy, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent mid week stay with us and for the constructive comments therein. I have asked both my housekeeping and maintenance team to look at the small niggles within the bathroom and passed on your feedback to Christian our Executive Head Chef and Michael our Restaurant Manager, who are both relatively new to the business and currently reviewing operations and standards within their respective departments. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Adrian

We love Rutland and jumped at a Secret Escapes two night offer to try this hotel out. Perhaps we should have reviewed comments made on this site about the major works being undertaken ahead of time but this said, it did not detract materially from our stay here except it does limit the facilities available. We were told the spa pool had not been in operation since before CoVid, which was a little disappointing.
Our lakeside room was well positioned, spotlessly clean, a good size and incredibly comfortable; we appreciated the complimentary touches like the big glass bottle of water, not the awful plastic stuff.
All the staff we interacted with (except one particularly grumpy one who literally must have had a sense of humour bypass) were professional, efficient and helpful. We are avid rugby fans and the staff in Blossoms kindly set up the TV facility in their snug room to allow us to drink and dine in there to watch the World Cup matches .We enjoyed the food in Blossoms, the dinner menu was not large but sufficiently varied for most if not all palettes. The wine list was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast is buffet style but the chefs are happy to cook eggs to one’s liking. The system was less efficient when there was a rush of people turning up for breakfast at the same time on one morning and key breakfast items were not replenished in a timely fashion resulting in large queues. We can understand why waste should be absolutely limited but the kitchen and restaurant staff would surely have a good idea of the numbers of people expected and plan accordingly.
For us, the real highlight was the resort’s positioning and the lay out. The grounds are well cared for and later buildings sympathetically blend in with the environment; we only hope the resort doesn’t get ahead of itself and over develop which is certain to end in disaster.
Overall, we would return and we would recommend.

Brief context / positives:
I booked an overnight stay for me and my partner for his birthday - we stopped over in November 2024. Booking and check in was simple and staff were friendly throughout our stay. The location is gorgeous and the buildings are nice. We feel this hotel has great potential but felt a bit neglected. We did appreciate that guests get to use to the gym, badminton court, golf course, etc for free. We loved the natural vegan hand wash and shower gel! The bathroom had an LED mirror with demisting button, which was helpful. The shower bath was spacious and the shower pressure was amazing!

Negatives:
Firstly, my main reason for booking this hotel was the advertised leasure facicilities of swimming pool and crazy golf. However, when we arrived, we soon realised after walking the grounds that the swimming pool was closed for renovations - we had not been informed of this as any point prior to our arrival so we're majorly disappointed.

Check in is at 3pm, which during this time of year, is when it starts to get dark. We noticed the crazy golf course had lights installed all around during our initial walk of the grounds and so decided we would unpack and then head back out around 5pm to play some crazy golf. However, when we turned up again, in the dark, we noticed that the majority of the outdoor lights weren't working and so you couldn't use the course. Considering the facilities are open until 7pm, you would think they would have ensured the lights were working! We did end up playing crazy golf the following morning, and cannot deny we had fun. However, the course was covered in leaves making it really difficult to play properly. Again, you would think these would have been swept off?

We informed the hotel ahead of time that we're are both vegan, as we had booked breakfast the following morning. We were delighted to find a jug of oat milk had been left in our room to allow us use of the kettle. Tea and coffee was lovely (birchalls tea and ringtons coffee) However, one of the coffee sachets had gone off. Also, none of the complimentary biscuits were suitable for vegans which was a little disappointing but nothing major!

On the surface, the room was nicely decorated and surface level clean - we bumped into the cleaners who were very friendly! However, the room and bathroom was riddled with black mould and there were cobwebs in places. The roller blind in the bathroom was covered in mould and even had a dirty mark from where I assume a moth had got caught and died?? There was also a little bit of limescale in the kettle.

We were also a little disappointed with the breakfast as nothing appeared to be clearly labelled with allergens or as vegan. We did enjoy the bread which we assumed to be vegan (had toast with sunflower spread and jam pots) and some fresh fruit. I had to ask for non dairy milk for our hot drinks but for some reason the drinks from the machine tasted weird. We tried coffee sachets and tea bags but both tasted like mushrooms so I couldn't help but wonder if the machine needed cleaning as both used hot water from the machine.

Returned from a fabulous stay at the tranquil Rutland Hall. We stayed in a ‘cosy suite’ overlooking the water which was extremely spacious, clean, modern and airy. The bed was comfortable, linen, pillows and bedding of good quality. Everything you could possibly want. Staff were efficient and welcoming, breakfast in Blossoms was very good. You have direct access onto Rutland Water.

Traveller tips. The hotel is built on different levels, in different buildings and on the hillside so could be difficult for guests with mobility issues but there were golf buggies which I assume are to available to assist. A £50 deposit is taken at check in returned on departure minus any charges incurred during your stay (in the restaurant etc). We were not made aware of this prior to our stay.

I can highly recommend Rutland Hall and will most definitely return.

We decided to make a holiday out of our wedding tasting evening as we aren’t local to the area.
Our correspondence with Emmie has been absolutely wonderful - she has made us feel SO confident in everything we are planning for our big day!
Emmie made the hotel room so romantic for my fiancé and I - we had beautiful swan shaped towels and paper rose petals on the bed, and little notes left by the team and the lovely person who decorated the room - Anissa.
Emmie arranged for a bottle of Prosecco for us in our room - we arrived at 3pm for check in, and the Prosecco was waiting for us in the room, on ice so it was ready for us to drink!! How perfect! Our room was immaculately cleaned, all the perfect touches!
We had a deluxe lake view room, which had a coffee machine with pods, teas, coffees, and biscuits! No fridge or dairy alternative options in the room, but I always come prepared!
There’s everything you could need right there in the room - iron and board in the wardrobe, hairdryer in the drawer, and even cushions for the balcony seats in the wardrobe - and a yoga mat!!

We went to dinner, and here’s the star of our stay. Nicola. This lady is solid gold. We felt like the most important people in the world. Everything was perfect for us, and we were guided through the tasting process to make it as simple as possible for us. We had a notes sheet and pen on the table for us waiting so that we could write all of our thoughts down with ease.

Nicola is an asset to this restaurant. I told her I work in hospitality, and I actually relaxed while out for dinner for the first time in years! No empty plates, spare cutlery, or glassware by escaped Nicola’s gaze! When we arrived for breakfast she greeted us again!! The same perfect hospitality!! She had already spoken to the chefs regarding vegan options and he prepared a couple of vegan sausages and a fresh avocado! Breakfast was delicious!!! So much choice!! And lots of alternative options for me!!

We then played mini golf - the course needs a little bit of TLC but was very fun with lots of tricky bits! Then my partner convinced me to have a go at the pitch and putt! Mini golf and pitch and putt were both included in our room cost so why not!! Staff were again lovely in the leisure reception! This pitch and putt course was lovely for a first timer. And the views are gorgeous!!

We left full to the brim with delicious food and amazing experiences with all staff!! Thank you so so so much!

We had a brilliant 2 night stay with 3 generations of our family. We were introduced to the hotel through a 'Secret Escapes' deal which enabled us to book discounted rooms that suited our family. We called the hotel after booking and ensured rooms were together and changed one room to an accessible room for our 80 year old parents. The hotel was friendly, comfortable rooms and comfortable mattresses. This is the most important thing for me in a hotel.
We had a wonderful visit, enjoyed great weather which enabled us to use the water sports facilities at nearby Rutland Aqua park.
We enjoyed sitting outside Blossoms restaurant and using the swimming pool on site. The mini golf was also a huge hit with everyone.

I’ve just experienced with my wife a one night stay at Rutland Hall Hotel as a holiday treat and the whole experience was absolutely fantastic. The Hotel is situated in extensive well maintained and picturesque grounds overlooking Rutland Water with some wonderful views. The hotel is very charming and we stayed in a very modern double room with a Lakeside View in one of the neighbouring accommodation blocks. The room was very spacious and comfortable and the cleanliness’s was immaculate. We had dinner and breakfast in the Blossoms Restaurant which was first class with very good service. I had a Himalayan Salt Aged Sirloin Steak which was easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Breakfast was a buffet with a very extensive choice and was nice and hot and tasty, only thing missing for me was Black Pudding. The staff throughout were very pleasant and helpful but a special mention to Mia and Max in reception who were so helpful. Would definitely stay again and look forward to another treat in the near future.

We have just returned from celebrating my parent’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
I cannot fault any part of this hotel.
The staff were incredible and couldn’t do enough for us. The restaurant staff were the best I have ever experienced and made my parents feel very special. The food was amazing and we even had a private dining room to celebrate in.
The rooms were immaculate with beautiful views and they even provided a golf buggy service to transport my parents up to the restaurant and back whenever they needed it.
I can honestly say that it is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in.
Thank you for making my parents celebration so special. They were thrilled with the whole experience.
