We had an amazing stay at this lovely little cottage. I noted a review about spiders and water. These are laughable comments and very unfair as it's a country cottage where I'm guessing insects do live.
Before leaving negative comments, people should just ask for assistance from the owners.

Charlotte and Phil were both very approachable and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. The cottage is perfect and the area of Rutland has much to explore. Burghley House is a must and if you enjoy a bit of adventure, just have a wander around Rutland Water. What makes it even more special? You can get away and hide as you cant get pestered by constant phone call or social media as the signal is very limited. So a great get away for anyone wanting to escape the rat race for a while. We will certainly be back in the future.

Thanks to Charlotte & Phil for sharing your lovely place.

Take care

Paul & Andria

Just spent the bank holiday weekend here with my wife. We cycled around Rutland Water (the accommodation is actually on the cycle route) which was so much fun. We could park our car and bikes in the secure garden too. This place has just been thoughtfully redecorated and is spotless. The owners are a lovely friendly family and the home made breakfast was great because you can help yourself in your own time and not have to sit in a stuffy breakfast room talking to other guests. Right on the edge of Rutland Water so great for sailing, cycling, walking etc and near Oakham a small town with lovely shops and restaurants. Really enjoyed it.

Spent 4 very relaxing days at this unique and well located cottage.

While it is billed as a B&B (fresh bread, cakes, fruits and such await you upon your return each day) you also have the convenience of self catering facilities, which meant we could shove a chicken in the oven, stay in and rest our aching limbs from cycling / walking around Rutland Water on a couple of occasions!

Plenty of walks, bird watching and good food nearby (and cycle paths of course) and the water is virtually on your doorstep.

Thoroughly charming owners.

Highly recommended.

Many thanks.

My rather wonderful other half arranged for us to spend the weekend in this beautiful cottage. Both Phil, Charlotte and their lovely daughters were perfect hosts. My other half had quite a bit of contact with them before we arrived and during booking as I am currently 7 months pregnant and wanted to make sure we knew were local medical help could be found if needed. They made it very clear that is we needed any advice or help just to come and find them. The cottage itself is clean, bright, fresh and welcoming overlooking a stunning garden with its own little wilderness to explore.

On the second day of our little holiday my chap proposed to me and awaiting our return was a little card of congratulations from the family. The perfect icing on the cake!

I strongly recommend this cottage and this little slice of heaven, even if it's raining you won't regret it!

We stayed at The Walled Garden to celebrate my birthday, I'm so glad we booked to stay here. The hosts Charlotte & Phil are wonderful, warm and very helpful, they made us feel very welcome and we knew we only had to ask if we needed anything. In all honesty my 2 little niggles prior to staying was all in vain. 1) I had wondered why there were very few current reviews on Trip Advisor, but the Guest Book onsite clearly shows outstanding comments all recent, I guess not everyone Posts comments. 2) There was a Post about lack of hot water, I emailed Charlotte and straight away she responded explaining it would not be a problem it would just be a case of adjusting the timer - she did and we had plenty of hot water, even when we had showers very late mornings and nights. The Cottage is beautiful, very clean and has lots of light, I like light airy spaces. Rutland's is beautiful, we will definitely be back and would have no hesitations returning to The Walled Garden.

A lovely cottage 30 seconds from the waters, the surroundings are picturesque even with storage for your bikes, nothing but nice things to say.

However, if you do not like spiders then don't bother booking. AT LEAST one on every wall, nobodies fault just how the countryside is sometimes. Not cobwebby at all when we stayed though.

Another downside is that the lady who owns the cottage lives just next door, on the same driveway. Therefore if you want privacy it's probably not your cup of tea, it felt like we were staying in her spare room, not a bad thing for us just might be for other people looking to book.

Only suitable for two people and if your going to have guests whilst your there make sure your bed is made as its all open plan.

One last bad side, the hot water tank isn't big enough to fill one bathtub, and if your over 6ft then the shower isn't for you, so make sure you boil the kettle before you start running your bath!

All in all a great place to visit and a lovely cottage to go with it, especially for the price. So if you don't like spiders, cold baths or privacy this place is 100% for you.

But if you like cottages, great views and Rutland waters then its 100% for you.

Being in a very rural location does mean spiders! We do our best to make sure there are no cobwebs, but it's hard to discourage those natural visitors during the summer months. When guests arrive, they will always find the cottage immaculately clean and fresh. Most guests find our location very private and while our house does share a drive with the cottage, we do our very best to offer guests as much privacy as possible during their stay. The cottage is self contained and neither our house nor the cottage overlooks the other. Being at the same property means that we are here if there's anything our guests need and we ensure that guests know that we are available. I always do my best to rectify issues promptly if I am told about them. With regards to the water tank, it has always provided sufficient hot water in the past. However, to ensure future guests have enough, I have now set the hot water timer for longer at each timed period just to be on the safe side.

Great accommodation at this delightful cottage. Clean, well equipped and homely. Our first visit to this area has been a pleasure. Plenty to do locally around Rutland Water, and visits to houses, villages and gardens nearby.
Warm sunny October weather certainly enhanced our stay. Thanks to the owners for their care and attention.

My husband and I spent a week at The Walled Garden at the end of June and couldn't have chosen a more pleasant spot from which to explore the Rutland Water area and enjoy peace and quiet.

The cottage is very nicely appointed with a kitchen that has all you need. It's a short walk to the lake and an easy car ride to a well-stocked supermarket, bakery, Oakham, Barnsdale Gardens and lovely villages.

Charlotte and Phil, the hosts, and their 2 daughters, are lovely people and we enjoyed getting to know them. They were helpful and friendly but also gave us our privacy. Charlotte gave us good tips as to where to shop and eat.

The garden is large, private and beautiful. We have suggested to the owners to add two lounging chairs on which to lie, read and relax in the peaceful and quiet surroundings.

We have no hesitation in recommending a stay at The Walled Garden!
