Detailed Reviews
We stayed for two nights in the private suite at Whangaimoana, an impressive sitting room and comfortable bedroom made us almost unwilling to go on our Martinborough wine tour! Our hostess Jacqui Sutherland was very kind and accomodating. We spent a pleasant evening exploring the lovely gardens. Jacqui even showed us her private sitting room, the largest most impressive room in the house.

Very relaxing time spent here, strolling around the garden and paddocks, conversing with the donkeys and relaxing in the beautiful lounge in front of the open fire. Like stepping back in time. We were well looked after by Jaqui who gave us an amazing full breakfast and filled us in on the history of the place. Highly recommended

Excellent get away. The brekkie is generous and tasty, the host is great, and the fireplace gets crackin. You can visit the local pig, chickens, ducks, and donkeys on the walk around the grounds. There is also a bath tub good for soaking and some very hot water.

NZ$140 for the best B&B I've experienced, in a stunning, old country mansion, a huge lounge, bedroom & bathroom to ourselves & the hostess kindly doing an afternoon tea with cake - included in cost. The hostess was entertaining & came and lit the fire in our lounge evening & morning. Breakfast was great. Room was wonderful. Great place to walk in the huge gardens & so peaceful.

It was a 3-day holiday weekend, but we only wanted to get-away for one night. We were very fortunate to find a vacancy at this lovely B&B. We originally were hoping to book the self-contained cottage, but it was booked. Instead, we reserved the ensuite Queen bedroom in its own wing. The room was large and comfortable with a gorgeous ensuite with both a shower and claw foot bathtub large enough for two. The separate sitting room was warm with a fire burning upon our arrival. It is here were we were served coffee and yummy lemon loaf upon our arrival. It's also here where we were served a delicious breakfast the next morning. The sitting room also included a small TV, but we were more interested in the selection of books, magazines, and the huge historic map of the area that hung on one wall. The grounds of this beautiful property are lovely, with good views and animals to visit. The hosts, Jacqui and Alistar Sutherland, were wonderful hosts who shared stories of the area and spoke of the history of the property. This is a truly lovely and peaceful retreat.

If, like us, you don't go for B&B because of the "living in someone's house aspect" and the possible need to be sociable with the hosts over breakfast - do not hesitate about staying in the wing of this house - its just wonderful !!
As the self-contained cottage was not available when we were in the region we decided (somewhat reluctantly as non-B&B people) to accept the wing of the main house option as we did want to be located near the south coast of the Wairarapa to explore this area
Really so pleased that we did as the fabulous accommodation comprised a very large lounge along with a large bedroom and a large bathroom to match and great to be staying in this heritage house (old by NZ standards)
Your wing comprises your own very large lounge with breakfast table in one of the original reception rooms, where breakfast is set up unobtrusively by the wonderful hosts (who as one of their welcoming touches had fires going when we came back in the evenings)
Located to the south of Martinborough but within an easy driving distance (and The Ferry Hotel is close by for good meals) Whangaimoana is so different as a place to stay we absolutely recommend the house and the hosts even if you are in Martinborough for the vineyards (but do also take the time to explore the coast out to Cape Palliser)

Amazing old residence with high ceilings, kauri throughout and an open fire. Afternoon tea on arrival and a cooked/continental breakfast each morning, in front of a roaring fire. You get a huge bedroom, ensuite bathroom and your very own sitting/breakfast room. Beautiful gardens with chickens, pigs, sheep, peking ducks and guinea fowl. Close to all South Wairarapa has to offer. A wonderful experience.

Grand old house with high ceilings and lots of varnished hardwood flooring/walls. Comfortable, well equipped rooms with en-suite. Tea making facilities and fridge. Good selection of reading material.
Our hostess, Jacqui, made us feel very welcome.
The dining room/guest lounge has a homely atmosphere with TV although we never had time to use it.
Breakfast was excellent. We had poached eggs and bacon. Recommended.

Quite possibly one of the loveliest places I have ever stayed. The cottage is just delightful - the fire was lit before I arrived and the beautiful cottage garden made for a lovely welcome, along with homemade lemon cake and fresh flowers. The cottage was very cosy and equipped with everything you could possibly need. It has a comfy bed and I had a great night's sleep, waking up to glorious sunshine and pretty views of the garden from every window. Hosts were charming - gave me a tour of the big house and also cuttings to take home for my garden. Absolutely loved my stay and can't wait to come back again!

A wonderful place to stay while enjoying the many local attractions that Martinborough has to offer. Jacqui our host offers a wonderful insight into the local history and places of interest to visit.
We arrived late in the evening to a welcoming fire and lovely afternoon tea. The following morning a where served a wonderful cooked and continental breakfast with delicious home made condiments.
This is a magnificent heritage home and property and a garden lovers delight, complete with tame kuni kuni pigs, ducks and geese!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days at Whangimoana, thank-you Jacqui and Alistair.
