Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This gypsy camping was the most amazing thing ever. wood fire bath, home cooked food, river near by, stunning spot. cant say enough about how amazing this place is. No matter how long we stay, we always want 1 more day here. it is great value for money.

Owned and operated by a lovely couple.

highly recommended.

About 5 minutes from the center of town. The host and hostess were welcoming and easygoing. Sociable and helpful with dinner recommendations, etc. Breakfast was tasty and substantial. There is a very large bathroom with elevated tub and a shower. The home is very attractive with a beautiful country kitchen and natural wood doors. Beds were comfortable. The only downfall in my visit was my allergy to cats, but it is my fault for failing to ask about that (and for failing bring my inhaler). Another potential minus is the wedding venue next door, but it didn't keep us from sleeping (and that was with a live band) so I don't think it should steer anyone away.

Our family stayed here , some of us in the house and some in the caravans , for our sons wedding ( next door) in January 2017. It was perfect. Mary was warm and welcoming and very understanding of our needs . The rooms were very comfortable , the bathroom very well appointed and the breakfast delicious. Thankyou Mary and Steve - you really contributed to our special day. Hilary

We spent a long weekend with our 3 children (ages 14, 8 and 9) at the Gypsy River Camp. It was a magical experience for us and our boys; they loved the flying fox, the space, the caravans and the local animals. The site was so well equipped and the well stocked fridge and home baking made arriving on a Friday night very easy. We will be back when the weather is warmer to try out the kayaks in the river, thank you!

We were at the Gypsy River Camp for my wife's birthday with our 4 months old daughter and we had a great time. Thank you Mary and Steve. What you have created is awesome, the gypsy caravans are very comfortable and well equiped. We will come back.

Great location with Mary & Steve once again being excellent hosts.
The camp is fantastic with all amenities needed for a sunny or rainy stay.

The peaceful setting was perfect for our quiet weekend away from the city and we'll continue to visit.

Thanks Sean & Vicki

Wow!! What can we say? We had a fantastic weekend at Mas des Saules. Mary and Steve are the perfect hosts and it is a lovely comfortable and warm home. Breakfast was one of the best we've had at a b&b - homemade muffins as well as a traditional full English. The b&b is in a great location- it's peaceful, close to the river with views of the beautiful snow capped mountains but a short drive to Greytown. Can't recommend it enough!!

Masterton - in and of itself, is not high on the list of must see destinations unless you have a reason to go. We did, so needed accommodation and wanted something other than the standard main street motel. This is a very comfortable and stylish homestay at very reasonable cost for what you get. Owners are lovely and welcoming, the home gracious and the bedroom and facilities very good. Tucked away down a country lane means you can listen to the animals, birdlife or even visit the local river at the end of the paddock.

An amazing 3 nights , from Mary and Steve's hospitality, beautiful home, fantastic breakfasts, very close to town, 5 minutes, but quiet contryside. The list is endless. We would encourage anyone to stay there, you will not be disappointed .

We have just returned from a fabulously relaxing weekend away at "Gypsy River Camping", a perfect family "get away from it all" experience. We were welcomed by Mary and Steve who showed us to the quaint little caravans (which were spotlessly clean) in our own private camping area, there was fabulous home baking awaiting us and plenty of supplies to have a cooked and/or continental breakfast (which we loved). Then it was off to explore, first was the playground the flying fox and tree swing fast became a favourite, then it was time to challenge the parents to a game of pole tennis. Before to long it was off to the river, so much fun was had learning to kayak and riding the biscuit down the "rapids". At night we played cards by lamp and candle light, toasted marshmallows, and of course relaxed in the bush bath. A fantastic weekend was had and we would love to return one day, for a longer stay.
