Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

While this motel is older style, the room was comfortable, well heated (very important), well equipped and very clean. The room was quiet, and the the bed was very comfortable. The proprietor was very gracious and helpful, and we would certainly stay here again.

Although the room was dated and the kitchen area was small it was quiet, clean and comfortable. The ground were quite and nice to sit out in with a coffee.
Check in was easy and friendly and we would be happy to stay again if we were looking at traveling to Masterton.

We hosted a 5 day conference for 40 people here and experienced amazing care from the staff especially Danielle. The Conference Dinner had great food served charmingly. We loved the grounds and facilities, where there was space to be quiet when people needed.

First of all the good. The motel was quiet, the room fairly spacious, the bed was good. However this property is due for an upgrade. We could not get on Wifi or it kept cutting out, and we could not make further travel arrangements or look up what was available in Masterton. The room had a terrible scented smell when we arrived which gave me a headache. We had booked here because a pool was advertised, but it was ''Under Maintenance,'' however I suspect that was not exactly true as it would take a lot of effort to make it functional again. The grounds were unkept and the pot plants were full of weeds. The bathroom was from the 80's and cramped and small and new carpet is needed. We were given three tiny 15 ml pottles of milk each day.

Worst bed I have ever stayed in. All you can feel is springs and no support left. In urgent need of replacement. All I ask for is a bed to sleep in and this place can’t even provide that. Woke up with sore shoulder and was forced to sleep on couch. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

This place may have been lovely once but it is in serious need of a makeover. The grounds are scruffy and the interior of our unit was even scruffier. I dreaded to think what might be growing in the carpet and the bathroom was awful. That said the bed was comfortable. Completely over priced for the experience.

we stayed here after escaping from Southpark Motel (see my reviews for details on that place!!)down the road. Masterton Motor Lodge was warm, and welcomming. Lovely clean rooms (and I am a fussy at the best of times).....
The restaurant thought busy was fantastic.
We will definately return.

We were in Unit 19 right at the back so it was very quiet. This was a one bedroom unit with kitchen facilities. The unit is very pleasant although the window sills need major work as they are very water stained. We didn't like the shampoo/conditioner products as although they were natural they didn't seem to lather up well at all.

The restaurant has an in-room service which offers two courses for around $24 I think. This was a great service and would recommend this as good value for money.

Reception staff were pleasant and helpful.

Location is as you come into Masterton heading North so you have to drive to the city centre but Masterton is a typical small town so it is not an issue that you are not in the centre of town.

My family and I just got home from a well needed vacation at the Masterton Motor Lodge. The new owners have definately turned it around! I had stayed there previously when it was all a tad dated and unkept. I spoke to the managers about how amazing the grounds look now. The reception area has been upgraded, as well as the rooms. The grounds are looking trimmed and sculpted. The cleanliness has dramatically been increased, our room was spotless. The Lodge Restaurant, was full and we didn't have to wait any longer than 15minutes for our meals!! Impressive or what! Compared to other motels in Masterton, the Masterton Motor Lodge, has character and a friendly face to greet you on arrivial. They provide excellent service and would go to extreme lengths for any guest. I would definately recommend this motel, and can't wait to stay again!!

Loved this motel.Although decor was dated, it was very spacious and clean. Comfortable bed and sofa. Set back off the road so no traffic noise. Great pool for a dip. Lovely gardens too. Would stay here again.
