My wife and I stayed in the lodge for a night to celebrate my wife's birthday. We enjoyed the peacefulness of Gladstone area and the lodge. Unfortunately we could not use the spa since it was shut due to COVID. Having said that, there were plenty of relaxing leisurely activities in the gardens (including the Lamas) that time flew so fast. The host booked us a seat in Gladstone Inn with complimentary transport. The hosts were welcoming and very sociable. The rooms were tidy and inviting. I would recommend anyone who has not been to Gladstone area to pay a visit and stay in this lovely place.
We stayed 3 nights enjoying the lodge to ourselves. We loved the complimentary breakfasts and a lamb dinner with sticky date pudding on our last evening. The lodge is set in gardens with areas sit stroll or sit and relax.
My husband and I stayed at the Summit Lodge on our way to Wellington. We had a beautiful room. It was spacious and everything about it was comfy. We were served wonderful breakfasts. They have a list of foods to eat for breakfast- everything you can imagine. You could order all of them!! We also contracted to have our dinners with them. We were served fantastic food and had great conversation. Tracey and Jim are excellent, interesting hosts.
My husband and I treated ourselves to an overnight stay for our 40th wedding anniversary. We had the accessible room due to my physical disability and found it very good. The bathroom worked very well and having the wet area shower just makes life so much easier, lovely fluffy towels too. The bed was very comfortable and having the heat pump kept the room lovely and cool overnight. The food was outstanding, we had a most enjoyable evening meal with two other guests and our delightful hosts Jim and Tracey. I thoroughly enjoyed the continental breakfast, including delicious homemade muesli. My husband very much enjoyed the cooked breakfast. Great coffee too. We spent time in the spa which was very nice. Tracey and Jim were wonderful hosts, they made us feel very welcome. We had a very enjoyable stay and have recommended it to our family and friends. We certainly hope to return at some stage…
Idyllic location. Peaceful yet close to wineries and local Towns. Great hosts who made you feel welcome and involved to the extent you wanted. We had a really wonderful meal with them for the first night of our stay together with a wine accompaniment for each course. Included terrific cooked breakfasts, which were a great start to the day. We were fortunate to have the whole guest wing to ourselves but even had other guests been there it would still have been great.
The lodge owners made you feel welcomed and the room with en-suite was very pleasant. The owners were very helpful making a booking for dinner at the local Gladstone pub. Breakfast was great, providing an opportunity to meet the other guests. Recommend as a great place to unwind within a rural setting.
This was a great weekend away for our anniversary. We stayed Friday & Saturday night and were lucky enough to be the only guests staying during that time, so had the common area lounge and outdoor spa to ourselves. However, the layout of the house means even if it was fully booked, you would still have peace and privacy. Our room was well appointed with a large comfy bed, quality bathroom and access directly outdoors. A heatpump was handy for AC on one of the quite hot nights. The lounge has a million DVDs, music, boardgames, and supplies for hot drinks (with homemade bikkies), a fridge and glasses for wine. There's also a petanque court and lots of exploring to be done in the gardens. The food was exceptional - breakfasts included a continental starter, followed by cooked breakfast (we had english brekky, pancakes, french toast), and proper coffee! We dined in for dinner on Saturday night which was very good food and value for money. And we enjoyed sitting under the starts drinking wine and spotting satellites racing by! Tracey and Jim were exceptional hosts, with great conversation, and we really enjoyed our stay with them. We'd definitely recommend them to friends or family and hopefully return ourselves.…
Enjoyed the relaxed country setting, excellent accommodation and good-humoured knowledgeable hosts. The dinner with home grown strawberries and man-fired creme brulee dessert was yummmmmm... Be artsy and check out the mounted photographs, demonstrating a steady hand, shape eye, and touch of soul. Thanks hosts.
We stayed at The Summit Lodge on an impromptu getaway from our busy Wellington lives, and it's hard to imagine how it could have been better. We were able to arrange pickup from the Carterton train station, and a ride into Masterton the following morning. We were spoiled as the only guests during our stay, but with a maximum of three rooms and six guests, it's easy to imagine finding seclusion when desired. Tracey and Jim are very accommodating hosts who struck a good balance between friendliness and discretion, engaging in genial conversation, but discretely retiring to give us privacy at dinner, in the evening, and at breakfast. They were willing and able to cater for our dietary preference (vegan), with a generously portioned delicious home cooked three course dinner, and good breakfast options. It was also nice to hear and see evidence of the lodge's commitment to environmental sustainability. The lodge itself is purpose built as a guesthouse, and it shows. Blending classic southern European and NZ styles with modern comforts, the lodge is charming and well appointed, and thankfully avoids leaning on the over used and rarely beneficial euphemism "rustic". The entrance foyer and kitchen where meals are served are big and welcoming (pictures don't quite do it justice). The rooms are cosy, clean and tidy, and have everything you'd expect at a premium level (air con, bath robes, good king bed, etc). The guest lounge is just like big home living room. There's a large (large!) catalogue of DVDs, and a home theatre setup with a decent sound system, putting the best "in room entertainment" to shame. We enjoyed our evening watching movies, munching on the snacks the left out for us and playing chess on their fancifully carved chess set (once you get to grips with which pieces are what!). Our only regrets are not staying longer, and not coming in summer; two matters we may well address!…
Had another awesome weekend in this relaxing and luxurious Lodge. This is a perfect place for a getaway with lovely hosts, yummy food in wonderful surroundings. As they do not cater for children it is perfect for relaxation and time out. My friends and I love it and have already booked again for next year.
