The well appointed, clean, spacious and comfortable units at this motel have great sea views over Kaka Point Beach and very good parking per unit. This was appreciated as we had a larger vehicle plus bikes on behind. Our hosts went out of their way to make our stay special, including the provision of a courtesy ride out to dinner. From this base we were able to easily explore the northern Catlins area over a couple of days. We would not hesitate to recommend this motel.

I booked this motel primarily so I would be close to the Nugget Point Lighthouse for sunrise photos.
The room I got boasted spectacular beach views as well. People who might be interested in visiting less-crowded beaches would find this motel a good starting point, too.
I got a free upgrade at check-in. I had booked Unit 5, a queen studio with no kitchen. Instead, I was put in Unit 7, a queen studio with a kitchen.
The upgrade was appreciated because I visited during the winter, which meant few services were open. There was no restaurant serving dinner, and the earliest breakfast location wouldn't open until 11am the next day. I was prepared and had brought food for both dinner and breakfast in from Balcutha. Having a kitchen allowed me to heat up my food.
If you're traveling during the colder months, be aware that the built-in heater is quite loud. Be prepared to sleep with ear plugs.

This motel has such a welcoming feel about it - very friendly and obliging hosts. Units are clean, well appointed and spacious and the separate lounge has a bonus sea view. It was great to be able to use the BBQ for cooking an evening meal and outdoor seating was also well utilized by our group. Generous parking space which was a bonus as we had bikes on board. Good value for money. Kaka Point is such a beautiful little town and only a short distance to drive or bike out to the Nuggets. We will definitely recommend this motel to friends

The views from the deck at the back of our studio were amazing. The studio itself was large and comfortable, nice big bathroom. Comfortable bed and sitting area and two decks to use, one totally private. Although we had cooking facilities we requested the loan of the BBQ, cant beat a decent steak cooked that way. Local restaurants are few and far between, and depending on the day of the week you may not get one.

We wanted 2 nights here but couldn’t do the accomodation in one room so we were in unit 6 first night. This was tiny with a fridge, jug & toaster, plates & some cutlery but very compact. Next day we moved to Unit 10, really great with a kitchen, studio bed & lots of room. All looked to be brand new. The owner, Karen was really nice. Most enjoyable stay. Shame it was too windy to sit out on our deck.

Excellent, cosy motel with everything we needed for a one night stay. We cooked dinner in our unit (14) which had a stovetop and microwave and all the utensils we needed. We loved the views of the sea in both directions and we could see the lighthouse shining at night. Karen was lovely to deal with. We would definitely come back here.

Spent a night here during our Catlins trip. Had a large room with a great view.
Motel is pretty new and modern
Room had everything we needed including a kitchen which was great given everything was closed on the Monday night we stayed.

Our first night spent here on our Catlins trip. We were lucky enough to have room 10 which had an amazing view from the terrace over the beach and out to sea. A large room with separate sleeping and lounge area. Spotlessly clean and quality bed and bathroom linens. Thoughtfully provided things needed in the kitchen, which was well kitted out china, pots, utensils and glass wear etc. All in all loved it and tried to stay another night on our return journey but they were full with a wedding party. Would highly recommend this property and the lovely welcome from owner.

Loved this place! You never know with small town New Zealand what motels will be like, but I was so impressed with this motel. Beautiful view of the beach and nugget point, lovely service, clean and tidy with great facilities. Would love to stay again!

Lovely views from the balcony, could even see albatrosses offshore. Comfortable room and bed and very quiet at night. The local cafe/restaurant is closed as it's being sold so we had to drive 20 minutes or so to get food. Nugget point is well worth a visit.
