This is a historical campground. The original base for the 1950s power project, it was once home to hundreds of Italian workers who were involved in what was then the biggest engineering project in New Zealand. For the casual camper looking for a quiet spot away from the main road, here you'll find large, individually-hedged sites with plenty of lovely shady trees, each having a tap and a picnic table. Older-style, well-scrubbed amenities include a basic kitchen with lots of pans, crockery and cookware, ablutions with free curtained showers, a coin operated laundry, and a drying room available for a small charge. The covered deck off the kitchen is a beautiful spot to sit and eat your meal, and you can use the fish cleaning sink and outdoor BBQ s to cook up your catch of the day. Too tired to cook? Town is within walking distance for a takeaway or a meal. Working towards being an Eco friendly camp ground, there are ample recycling stations, a bin in the kitchen for your organic waste that goes to the worm farm, and a herb garden is also being established by the kitchen. Children have a couple of small play areas and plenty of room to run about, while on rainy days there is a large games room and guest lounge. Internet access and a dump station are also provided, and your dogs are welcome but by arrangement please. Charges are from $22 per person, children 5-14 from $10, and under five are free. Our cabins is very basic and have a bottom sheet, pillow and pillow cases. You need to bring your own bedding. You also need to use the communal kitchen and bathrooms. From $55 per cabin. Our Family cabin has a TV, fridge, small kitchenette with its own crockery and cutlery. You need to share the bathroom and kitchen with the other guests.Bring own linen. From $75 per cabin. Self-contained unit is beautiful and is our own mansion. From $120 per cabin.

I've stayed at several Kiwi Holiday Parks and I would say this Turangi park is the worst one among all Kiwi Holiday Parks. I don't know if there's an entry standard to become a Kiwi Holiday Park but I'm sure this one is way below...More

Totally agree on that and that reflects in our prize and we do advertise it as basic cabins. As you could see we are busy with renovations and working hard to give it a facelift. One thing is, we have the best shower pressure of...More

We rocked up after a long drive and 5 days into our roadtrip after our campervan broke down really looking for some direction for our climb but was greeted by being asked how we could be helped rather than a welcome. It's not a library....More

Thanks for this but I really don't get your point. Did you stay in a cabin or in a van?.

Old, need to be painted so bad, bit stinky, I wouldn’t call the beds a beds....so overpriced, actually I wouldn’t spend any of my money on this accommodation. My partner booked this place early in the evening, didn’t read the reviews..wish he did hahah. The...More

Only a one-nighter, but for the first time we had stayed there we were pleasantly surprised. Late September on a cold night there were plenty of heaters to warm the cabin. Two adults and two kids and a lot of space - would gladly return...More

We turned up after hours the staff were very friendly and had turned the heaters on for us we stayed in the family house quite comfy and plenty of room. Would suggest fire extinguisher and smoke alarms to be installed.
