Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Tongariro and we couldn't have asked for anything better. Its easy to get to off the highway and it's only a couple of minutes walk to the town area with plenty of food places and a supermarket.
The motel room was spacious, sparkling clean, comfy bed, great shower and all the facilities you need for a couple of days. There was a 2 hob to cook on, saucepans, salt and pepper.
The motel felt really safe and had a great relaxing feel to it. Loved the decking area at the back of the room to chill out on and a picnic bench for each room if you wanted to use it too. There was also a hot tub which could be booked for half slots which was clean and really relaxing, great extra to have available.
Overall a great stay and the owner was lovely and really helpful.
I would definitely recommend!

Also for extra info if staying in the area, Rusts did a great burger, and if the Tongariro crossing gets cancelled like it did unfortunately for us, the Tama Lakes walk was a great alternative.

During a very difficult trip, this place was truly a peaceful haven, better than anything we could have hoped for. Clean, warm, quiet, and so welcoming. The full kitchen, laundry, bbq area and deep private spa pool were godsends, and we were very fond of Donna's caring and conscious focus as a caretaker for the wellbeing of humans, wildlife, and the environment of this unique place by the crater's heart. The additional night we needed due to a breakdown was no problem - nothing was too much trouble. We'll be back.

Couldn’t have found a better place to stay. We were welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. Host was more than happy to answer questions and give directions. Room was scrupulously clean as was the bathroom. Water pressure in the shower was very low, but that would only be a slight negative in our stay. Easy walk into town centre.

We stayed here for 2 nights with the sole purpose of walking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and this is a good base. We actually stayed here Dec 2019.
The owner was friendly although she kept trying to put us off walking the trail even though we said we were experienced.
The rooms are small and basic but cosy. What was nice was getting in the hot tub spa after we'd completed the trek, although the room where it is is not very nice.

Just stayed for a one night stopover. Clean especially the bathroom. No mould in the shower grout maybe recently redone. But note water pressure not good enough to wash your long hair ladies. There is some noise from the highway but didn't disturb our sleep. Think of it as being close to the beach with the noise of the waves! Bed typical style comfy but a slight feeling you might slip out. Wouldn't want to stay for more than one night. Host Donna a bit eccentric but overall very nice lady.

Fabulous place for families. Beds were comfortable, the room was very clean and warm. Plenty of room for everyone and the full kitchen was a bonus. Kids loved the trampoline. Beautiful parklike grounds, very close to town. Thanks for being pet-friendly too.

Stopped here for three nights in the 7 bed dorm. The owners are very helpful and welcoming. The detached unit was clean with what looked liked new or recently changed carpets. There was 6 of us stopping. The downstairs had an open plan kitchen/dining/living space. All six of us could fit round the dining table. It is great that it is so clean and everything is provided to keep it clean. The sofas were new as well. Downstairs 2 bedrooms, one queen and one a twin, upstairs a mezzanine floor with 3 single beds. I thought the place was great, it had an on site guest laundry, washing line. You could use equipment to wash your car. Plenty of room for the children to play on the grass with various balls which you can borrow. Trampoline. Plenty of room to park your car. Supermarket 5 min walk or 2 min drive. Hosts are happy to advise on activities in the area and have a complimentary DVD's. There is a hot tub that you can use by prior arrangement and also a fish gutting room. There are lots of little touches that make a difference to a stay and this place has them. It great when places aren't stingy with tea/ coffee/milk and you get plenty here. Lots of towels and if you need anything the hosts will help. Shower great and beds comfortable. There was heating and fans if needed in the unit and our unit had a decking area with patio table and chairs. I think this was the cleanest place we stopped at while holidaying for a month and though we had our four boys with us, I felt very welcome and at ease here. I would definitely recommend staying at Settlers Motel. Even though near main road it was quiet and peaceful and we all slept well. Host will supply breakfast if you want but we made our own. There is no restaurant on site but room guide provides all details of local food outlets. Again I can't emphasise enough how clean, hosts take pride in their motel.

Thank you so much for your glowing review! We were delighted to host your family and it was a joy to see and hear the boys having so much fun kicking balls and playing on the lawn. Our expansive lawn is certaininly a great way for children to run off their excess energy. We hope other families read your review and realise what a great option our family "cottage" is for a relaxing holiday with children.

We spent one night at the Settlers on our way across NewZ. The cabin was lovely, super clean & comfortable. It had all the usual refinements including heating! Limited but free wifi. We loved our twin cabin (one double and one single) and as I slept in the single bed I can confirm that it was very comfortable and very snugly. Lovely bedding and lovely owner who gave us a warm welcome and a free pen at the end of our stay - still using it to write my journal! Didn't see a pool or a fitness centre but couldn't get rid of the ratings so marked up rather than down.

It was a cold night and the pitched ceiling of the room starts making loud clicking noises when we turned off the heater to sleep. The other option is to keep the noisy heater on all night. All the rest was good.

Thank you for your recent review. Unfortunately we are unable to control the outside weather conditions but do our best by providing warm and comfortable beds, extra blankets and quiet fan heaters. We are sorry that Mother Nature disturbed your sleep and hope that you have the chance to return to Turangi on a fine, warm summer day.
