Detailed Reviews
Excellent Bed & Breakfast in a wonderful location overlooking Lake Taupo. The approach to the property is good, along a gravel driveway with ample parking and turning area right outside the property. We received a warm welcome from Raewynb & Niel, the owners and were shown to our luxurious bedroom which was of ample size and with sliding doors opening onto a lovely deck with views over the garden and down to Lake Taupo. There is a good sized ensuite with good finishes. Breakfasts are outstanding and on a good day can be taken outside on the deck. Raewyn & Niel are most helpful with advice on local attractions and restaurants etc. If possible DO NOT miss the opportunity to visit this outstanding B & B

We spent 2 nights at Omori Lake House during our 2 week driving tour of the North Island of NZ. We stayed at half a dozen high end B&Bs during our trip. While all were excellent and rated at 5 stars, our top rating would have to go to Omori Lake House: the house and facilities are superb; the guest rooms are beautifully fitted out and spotlessly clean; the location (very quiet and off the beaten track) is excellent for exploration of the Lake Taupo area and the Tongariro National Park; the view over Lake Taupo is fantastic; and the price is reasonable (by comparison with other B&Bs of similar standard). Our hosts, Neil & Raewyn, were wonderful. They made us feel like part of the family, and provided us with lots of helpful advice about the area. Raewyn is a qualified chef. Breakfast was excellent and Raewyn cooked a lovely dinner for us on one night. Our stay at Omori Lake House was wonderful in every way.

The Omori lake house is a hidden gem, just south west of Taupo. The new owners are very welcoming and their hospitality is amazing.
Rooms are very comfortable and the views second to none.
Easy access to the lake, mountain and parks.

Raewyn & Neil welcomed us into their wonderful home in a stunning location. We shared a pre dinner drink, enjoyed a wonderful meal, and exchange stories until late in the evening. They are consummate hosts and we urge you to stay with them.
We walked at Lake Rotopounamu near the Omori Lake House. It was a steady climb from the road through woodland. We sat and enjoyed a picnic and were entertained by a family of ducks with 6 ducklings. The males spent all the time trying to steal some of the lunch whilst we tried to ensure the ducklings got some as well. In the end, the ducklings were so tired they climbed onto this small log floating just off the beach and fell asleep.

Having not long been back from our honeymoon I feel I should and shouldn't share this review with you!!
Omori Lake House was one of, if not our favourite stay on our honeymoon travels - outrigger on the lagoon in Fiji was a near rival. We stayed at 12 different venues in total and nearly all were of very high standard, however this one stood out more than most.
We were looking for somewhere to stay that got us close access to the Tongariro crossing secure car park - I think this was around 40 minutes away though I may have driven slow and it could've been 25 minutes - I just can't remember that bit!
Our hosts Niel and Raewyn were charming and absolutely delightful, making us feel comfortable and at ease and sharing their home in a relaxing way. I was surprised to be offered the opportunity to join them for a drink after we had got settled in but so glad we did. The unspoilt views through the garden and over lake Taupo are breathtaking (you do get the same from the rooms btw). And the knowledge they shared was worthwhile.
We had fantastic breakfasts (delicious homemade muesli) with the usual cooked fayre, Raewyn is an excellent chef and it definitely shows. While this is all being served up Niel was usually busy preparing a choice of exquisite coffees that you would be hard served to find better in any top NZ Cafe.
The bed is huge and comfortable (something you really appreciate after a 20km trek). The room clean and very spacious, built to their great taste. The decor is complemented with Raewyn's artwork, which adorns the house and is of a very high standard indeed and worth checking out on its own...I should've asked if it was for sale but that felt too rude a question.
A little known secret we were very happy to find out and share is that you are just two short drives (5-10 minutes) away from 2 fantastic restaurants. I recommend getting your hosts to book them, and also advise on menu choices in one particular venue if you're looking for a fantastic value for money deal!
We were loaned some ski poles at the advice of Niel for our trip over the Tongariro crossing. I was very glad we took up his offer, if you don't have walking poles these are the next best thing for anyone unsteady on the scree slopes coming down from the top of the mountain.
If you do get the chance to stay here I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We are already talking about going back and would love to stay and meet our hosts again, perhaps getting to see Niel finishing his latest restoration project.

Stayed here a couple of nights on our grand tour of New Zealand.
Lovely room with stunning views of Lake Taupo. Spacious and very comfortable.
Our hosts couldn't have been better. Superb breakfasts and joined them for drinks both nights. Very hospitable indeed.
Great restaurant only 5 minutes drive away. Superb meal had there.
Also a great location for the Tongariro National Park. Easy access.
Highly recommended by us. We'll be back again when we next visit NZ.

We only stayed here for one night but we were very glad we did. Raewin and Neil were so welcoming, after arriving late asking us to enjoy a drink and a hot cross bun. The house is beautiful with a lovely outlook. The room was lovely with a nice bathroom (including a bath!). Breakfast was delicious - the muesli and yoghurt amazing! Highly recommend a stay here.

Omori Lake House was our home for 4 nights and the end of a month long trip. We can't imagine making a better choice. Raewin and Neil immediately make you at home. We had to deal with some bad weather, and they were more than helpful in their advice. Neil makes terrific coffee, while Raewin is an excellent cook - breakfasts and dinners (planned ahead for an extra cost) were absolutely wonderful. Not only were the room and home beautiful and comfortable, but the conversation and incredible view of Lake Taupo were a special treat. We would not hesitate to return to Omori Lake House.
