Detailed Reviews
We were greeted by Ross in reception who couldn't have been more helpful. He gave us maps & useful advice on where to eat shop & get petrol. We were even given pool/beach towels and a spade to take to Hot Water beach & advice on where to go & what to do when we got there.
Our room was ground floor with access to the pool. It was spotless & well equipped & serviced every day if we needed it. We couldn't fault it. The staff were all friendly & helpful & nothing was too much trouble.
During the week Whangamata is quiet in the evenings but we managed to keep ourselves well fed & watered. Apart from that there was little to do so we borrowed a couple of DVDs from a large stock in reception & watched those.
We left there feeling relaxed & revived. I'd happily recommend it as a good clean & comfortable base for exploring the Coromandel peninsula

We received a helpful reception with the owner showing us the room before we decided to stay
The self catering room had everything we needed with the bonus of a hot tub on the balcony. It was clean and well run
The owner was happy to recommend places of interest for us to visit and loaned us a spade and beach towels to enable us to visit the hot sands.
The motel is within an easy walk of shops, bars and restaurants and if you like walking, the beach.
Would definitely stay again

This is a first-class motel. We received a very welcoming warm reception. The spacious room was very comfortable, well equipped with micro-wave, hob, fridge etc. and was spotlessly clean throughout. Our ground floor unit opened onto a relaxing patio area and a landscaped area with kidney-shaped swimming pool. And, after I accidentally left my cellphone behind, Ross was incredibly generous and considerate in posting it to me, despite having only 48 hours to the nationwide level 4 lockdown. I give this motel my highest recommendation and will return.

We stayed here for three nights last week and the unit was very spacious with excellent lighting. When checking in, we were asked to pay in full which is not uncommon, but when we asked if we could see the unit first, we were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't as we had booked and had to pay anyway. This was so unnecessary as the unit was fine. The housekeeping left a lot to be desired and we had to wash glasses and cutlery before using them. The service was simply pulling up the bed and changing the towels - no wiping down of hand basin etc and the one tea towel and dish cloth were not changed at all. Toiletries were not replaced although on asking for more this was not a problem. We would stay here again, but would hope for better pr and cleanliness.

Thank you Mary for your review. Your booking was made online by you some weeks before you arrived. You had therefore 'secured' your room over a busy period well in advance, thus blocking any other potential guests from booking that particular room. In short, you booked online in advance to secure the room, but also expected to be able to wait and see the room before deciding whether you would actually stay. Is this really fair on us and/or other guests who want to book but can't while you "hold and decide" until you actually arrive? Motels, like many service industries, have a cancellation policy that protects them (to some degree) for this very reason. Would you expect to be able to book an airline ticket and then turn up at the airport to see what seat you were allocated, or question the inflight service etc before deciding whether to pay and fly? You are totally incorrect in stating that you were not permitted to see the room first. You were more than welcome to view the room, which as stated by you was "fine". You were also told that if you decided not to stay (thus cancelling your booking) you would be charged a fee as per our cancellation policy; as from the time of your booking until your actual arrival, we had turned away other guests wanting to book, but couldn't due to us being fully booked. The crux of your review is not that you didn't like your room, or had an issue with our service/facilities etc, but that you expected to be able to arrive and then decide if you would stay or not without fee. Your remaining comments are at odds with other guest reviews and, we feel, are simply a result of your displeasure at being advised of the cancellation policy upon your arrival. We would be delighted to host you again, but, in fairness to all, please don't expect to "hold and decide" again. Regards - Ross and Megan

We decided to stay at this motel based on the website photos for the various rooms. We choose the one-bedroom unit with poolside entry because we liked the quality-look of the bathroom. Upon getting our room we found the bathroom was not the one shown. It was okay but misleading, which was disappointing. However, our main concern was the state of some of the furniture. The outside chair had dreadful breaks/slices/rips in the plastic. I have included photos. When a site states, 'quality', that is what we expect.
The owners were not there so I was given their email to voice our concerns over the furniture and the issue that if showing a bathroom then that is what you should expect to get.
The email I received stated that they were aware of the chairs and were awaiting delivery of new ones with no dates for delivery.
Really? These chairs have wear and tear on the arms from months of use. The bottoms are dropping out? Why not get another design if the same ones are not available.
The outside chair complaint reply: The housekeeping team had cleaned the unit prior to our arrival and had not mentioned it? They have replaced it.
Excuse me? Kind of implies we were responsible or their housekeeping team need a lesson on quality.
Bathroom issue reply. They have several units with the same bathroom we had and the photos are not necessarily directed at a single unit? The motel is 20 years old.
What? The age of the motel is not a client's concern. If you state 'quality' then quality is what you expect. Be honest and show the other bathrooms.
I answered back by saying an apology, rather than a defensive approach might have been in order. Haven't heard back,
Bit of a shame as the units were roomy and generally fine. Spending a bit of money on two new chairs and one outside chair seems the smartest way to go rather than expect client's to use shabby furniture. As to the bathroom, show the different bathrooms.

Good location, within easy walking dustance to town and supermarket. Quite quiet, minimal road and other noise.
Great size unit, beds were comfortable however singles are not great for adults taller than 160cm. Bathroom was very clean and shower was very accessible for elderly.
Kitchen was well equipped.
Hot tub was lovely but took ages to fill and cooled quickly.
Reception was very helpful and accommodating when advised of a small issue.
Unit was very clean and tidy.

Basic motel that promises more than it delivers. Cleanliness lacking particularly with poor attention to detail with items such as bathroom extract fab and cords to the TV very dusty.
Used the laundry facilities, dryer didn’t work unless you stood in front of it and held the door closed.
Pool is nice and enjoyed by our kids. Play area not maintained and is dangerous is parts.
Ok overall but expected better from the photos and price albeit was peak season

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay. At the time you used our guest laundry we did inform you we were waiting on a Maintenance company to fix the drier so you knew that it may not work. Our play area is very well maintained, a lot of it is very new with new equipment and murals, and has been painted and attended to so we take offence to your untrue comment. Our pool is certainly nice and we love to see our guests enjoying it.

Due to the Cyclone that came through we were advised by Civil Defence not to come into the area, the lady at the end of the phone was rude and totally unforgiving only interested in her profit. We wanted to move our dates to later in the year but she said that she wouldn’t be able to on sell the room due to the weather and it cost us full price, over $1650. To a low income family that took us all year to save but totally lost in someone else’s greed, no compassion.
We would not recommend this place if this is their attitude to weather circumstances beyond anyones control.

Unfortunately you booked through Booking.com and booked a Non refundable booking, which is always a cheaper option of booking accommodation but comes with risks. At the time of booking your payment is taken and as such is non refundable. Perhaps next time book direct with whatever Motel you are wanting to stay at and then you can change/alter any booking. Sorry you did not understand what you were booking.

We had a great room that was fully equipped with a kitchenette. There was a hot tub on the balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff. The motel is situated very close to the supermarket, about a 5 minute walk. It is also close to the small town with plenty of places to eat. About a 20 minute walk away.

We stayed at the height of Cyclone Gabrielle. Graham and Lynne were incredible hosts very concerned with our safety and comfort. Updates on weather, a tap on the door with freshly baked savory pie! Absolutely did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible in the face of the worst cyclone in a century.

Approx 2.5 hours. However, if you are coming straight off the back of a long haul flight would not recommend doing such a long drive. Have a night in auckland then head down.
