This stylish Resort is centered amongst forest trees reaching up a steep hill. Rooms are in luxurious huts spread over the are. They feature a terrace, a stylish bath with shower and Manukka Honey amenities, coffee and tea making facilities with fresh milk available in the otherwise empty fridge and a totally comfy bed. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. There is a wonderful large pool, dem and sauna (the sauna seems not be used too often, the light bulb inside didn‘t work) as well as a tennis court. Breakfast is a choice of continental, full or a la carte. When the weather is fine it can be enjoyed on the large wooden terrace adjacent to the restaurant, overlooking the mountains and part of the bay. Imhad the wonderful eggs Benedict with salmon and spinach one day, the Belgian waffles with berries and cream the other day (couldn‘t finish them...). Dinner at the restaurant is an early affair and you should definitely book in advance (i‘s over at 9 pm), latest orders taken at 8.30. The restaurant is very popular with the locals and the are very few other options in Pauaanui. Service can be a bit slow, don‘t expect too much knowledge about the wines on the list. But the food options were all great, be it the steak or the seafood (although I had expected a larger variety of fish and seafood, being right at the ocean). The Chef certainly has lots of international experience and does blend different styles using fresh ingredients and regional products.

My husband and I stayed in one of the one bedroom chalets for our 10 year anniversary. We LOVED this spot. Very private, well appointed little chalets. The kitchen facilities were perfect and well thought out, the bed was soft and comfortable, the bathrooms were amazing with really nice toiletries and underfloor heating. This was a huge bonus as it was miserable weather, and we didn't feel up to lots of wet and windy walks.
We opted for the Breakfast included in our stay and the breakfast was very nice, the serving staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered room service for dinner in Lieu of eating in the restaurant, and the staff were always very accommodating, considering they had to drive the food up a steep hill, and climb a few stairs to deliver it every time we ordered, just so we could laze around in our chalet. The receptions staff were always super friendly, and helpful. They would go out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.
Over all this was a lovely experience, we would definitely book here again and it is totally worth every penny we paid.

A true Resort experience with excellent accommodation, facilities, dining and service. Chalets are interestingly located amidst greenery, are spacious and very tastefully furnished. The heated bathroom floor is a nice touch. The outdoor heated pool and spa are great and the tennis court is sheltered and has good surface. We didn’t have time for the sauna or gym! The dining experiences at dinner and breakfast were delightful with refined and flavourful food. Service at reception and in the dining room was the right balance between professional and welcoming. The property is very well maintained; it’s the attention to detail that counts, such as the person trimming off the dead heads of the lovely poppies in the planters. We look forward to returning.

Had a lovely visit to Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort. Rooms very really stylish and comfy and the service at reception and everyone working from cleaners to restaurant was amazing. Not the widest range of gluten free or allergy food - so just a head's up - not the end of the world. I would also suggest the restaurant area could do with a proper clean, lots of dust around on chair legs (just needs some fine attention to detail with a spring clean) also lots of dead fly's (expected in summer), but a good clean up before guests arrive for dinner would be awesome. Overall a great stay and will come back - I can recommend the service enough!!!! Best service I've ever had in NZ!

Our second visit, and noticed a lot of improvements. Room cleanliness definitely better, much more attention to dusting which was a big let down last time. The food and beverage offering had also been really elevated but at the same price point. Much more elegant meals.

All staff from reception, restaurant and bar and maintenance were amazing. A special mention to Chanel who we always look forward to seeing, her friendliness, attention to detail and service are exemplary. Housekeeping was very late on the 2nd day but promptly came when requested.

The disappointment was with the new food and beverage manager Nil/Nilesh, who is exceptionally friendly towards guests, but we observed him being exceptionally rude to staff multiple times on the floor. We saw him being aggressive, dismissive and altogether not befitting a good team manager at any company. We could tell that team members were visibly shaken.

Also whilst friendly, we were continually upsold by him at every occasion, we ended up having to say a few firm no's. He recommended a speciality cocktail for us and we were absolutely shocked when the bill came to $35 per drink, I'd propose that should absolutely be disclosed when the drink is offered as it is so out of line with a normal cocktail menu. $70 for two visually impressive drinks, not amazing taste and then giving us some stomach trouble later due to the unique (platinum) ingredients.

However we will definitely back and hope to see the staff happy and well treated.

Little cabins nestled in the trees felt like we were a million miles away from civilization. There are a few steep hills to get to the accommodation but what really made my weekend was we were in the most easily accessible cabin so no hill involved! The staff were such a joy- you could see they took great pride in their work and nothing was too much hassle for them. They all actually went above and beyond what they could to make our stay enjoyable. There was a gentleman who seemed to be running the show with dinner service each night, unfortunately we didn't catch his name but his passion and enthusiasm for what he was doing shone through. He made us feel like special customers each night and it was a delight to see someone who took real pride in everything he did. The food wasn't as high a standard as we expected it to be but they are going through a menu change at the moment and some of the meals were delicious! (the curry especially!)

Even though every room was booked out it still felt like we were the only people there. The heated pool and spa were a treat! We were disappointed with the sauna but realised it's because we didn't switch it on! The room was amazing as well. Bed was huge with luxurious pillows and a heat pump. My only real issue was the toilet, there was a frosted glass cubical which was pretty small- lets just say, I'm glad my partner and I are comfortable with each other, otherwise it would have been an awkward weekend! All in all we just had the best weekend and couldn't recommend the place highly enough!

When you're meant to be on a Baltic Sea cruise but are still in NZ (and safe and well), spontaneously booking at Puka Park has proven to be special. Noticeable is the quietness where the only sound is that of our native birdsong, the uniqueness of our native bush embracing the wooden featured chalets and the warm professional service of staff. The food, well we are fortunate to have dined at many 5 star restaurants across the world and our dining experiences here surpassed expectations. Given the quality rating and cost of staying at Puka Park, we highly recommend you take the time to enjoy this venue.

After a 7 hour drive, i arrived to a warm and professional greeting. Was checked in swiftly with smiles from all.
Evening, at the bar, i was served by a bubbly staff member, that i could only describe, as a permanently open bottle of Champagne.
Engaging, attentive and 'on the ball', this staffs ability to lift my day and remember my selections, was of the highest standard. (C)
On my first day on the Coramandel, while driving north, experienced a terrifing road incident, which shook me so much it limited my driving adventure.
This brings me to another staff encounter. While on the phone to authority's, re incident in my cabin,
the room cleaner arrived. We talked and after a short time, i had calmed, regrouped and felt MUCH better. This staff member came to clean my room but had also lifted this visitors heart(T)

Some reviews can be negative and im not saying all was perfect, but this one is about what made my holiday in this beautiful country and this resort with its kind and chilled people so memorable.
Please recognise the obvious and hidden skills of your staff and maintain that standard and my return will be assured.

We had not originally planned to stay on the Coromandel Peninsula but a change of plans meant we spent two nights here. What a piece of luck! Beautifully situated with great views from the terrace outside the restaurant and from within. The greetings from the staff were enthusiastic and professional and although we arrived late afternoon on a busy day we were still found a table at the time we wanted in the restaurant. Excellent food too.
The only word of warning is that the property is situated on a hillside and unless you are reasonably fit I feel access to the rooms would be a challenge even after a golf cart ride to the bottom of the steps. Fortunately we enjoy exercise.

If you’re thinking of staying in Pauanui then look no further. This place has some of the best customer service we have experienced in the world, special mention for the front desk and restaurant. Previous reviews mention steep walks to the chalets, I would counter that by saying that golf carts are on tap to take you up and down and it’s good fun. The pool area is great and well equipped, the restaurant food is great and reasonably priced for NZ (nothing is cheap). The chalets are private and you feel like you’re in a treehouse when sitting on the deck. The beds are comfy and the room well appointed. The breakfast is extra but worth every penny, you get a continental plus a cooked option included. The place is a little bit tired, I won’t lie BUT, everything else makes up for it and it fully deserves its 5/5.

Dear Gena, yes, of course this is a common issue and Cadgiebin explained it very well. The only problem is if the conference room is in use the entrance will have to be through the back of house area, which we can organise, however please note this is not the guest experience we aim to offer. To answer your question, we would love to welcome you to Grand Mercure Puka Park and we do have a lot of guests with walking problems staying as long as you are aware if it that it is a very hilly terrain with steps. Best regards, Mareile Jerosch-Hoehn Acting Hotel Manager

The drive from Auckland airport was under 2 hours, we got lost and I'm hopeless with GPS's, and to say I was the passenger! If you hire a car, you will benefit as you can stop and go where ever, and believe you me, there is pretty spots along the way that are just gorgeous. Coastal routes are very scenic, they have a few bridges that are one way only, so beware, but otherwise its a beautiful country and easy country to get around, I'm sure you will love it, like we did.

The Resort Restaurant is fantastic, or there is the option of dining in Pauanui which has several reasonable Restaurants. There is also the Golf Resort Restaurant 10 minutes drive from the Resort. Whittianga is around 45 Minutes Drive and there are 6 or 7 very nice restaurants located there.
