Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a clean, but basic accomodation. That said, it's great value for money, as the rooms are clean, and well looked after. The owners are nice and wellcoming. A good place to stay of you are on a budget :)

We recently had our large family stay in two of the units. They were spacious enough to accommodate and with the close proximity to the supermarket it was easy to be self contained. The rooms are a little dated but very clean. The new owners were welcoming and helpful. Straight off the main road for access without any noise. Parking is tight but manageable for smaller cars. Reasonably priced.

This motel is not young, it has many of the characteristics of a motel built in the 60/70s. This means it has decent size rooms, lovely high ceilings, and access to a back grassed area. Clean and tidy, with a very adequate kitchen, lovely hot water for the shower, and parking outside the door, the biggest asset of this motel is mine host. Kate has a sense of humour, and really does care about her guests.

I had the misfortune of staying at the KatiKati motel on a brief business stopover, unfortunately I did not have time to check reviews and that was a big mistake.
The room was worse than basic, wallpaper peeling, stained bedcovers, a rickety half painted side table, and in mid winter a room with no double glazing or heating. Sorry there was a tiny fan heater that worked intermittently and could not warm up a shoe box. The bathroom was dated with a dirty stained basin and a trickle of hot water in the shower. While the price was reasonable, you really paid more than it was worth.
However if you enjoy the sound of large trucks serenading you as you sleep, this motel gives it to you in spades.
There was Wifi, but the signal so so weak and slow, it would have been better using a signal lamp.
If you have to stay in the area, DONT stay here.

This is an old motel much in need of a complete makeover. The advertising is quite misleading and we were very disappointed, having travelled from the bottom of the South Island in one day to find this accommodation left much to be desired. It was like a step back in time and very overpriced for what was offered. We were unable to contemplate a night in the room. Finally tracked down the proprietor who offered a refund. Still waiting. Sad situation. Not recommended in its current state.

The room, had large patches of paint missing from where they had pulled off an old heater. The curtains were covered in mould. The bed was old,and uncomfortable and cockroaches in the shower room.Sadly we didnt have time to try and find another motel so were stuck with this. The most disappointing thing is, it is NOTHING like the "reasonable" appearance in the photos. It is horribly outdated. The grounds are completely unkempt.A real disappointment, and no where near worth the $114 for one night.

After selling our house in Christchurch, my wife and I wanted to spend some time with our daughter who is studying in Tauranga.Katikati is a small town 30 minutes from Tauranga, the motel has all the amenities available in Tauranga at a much reduced cost. They are pet friendly and we were allowed to have our ancient miniature poodle with us. I would like to congratulate, Malcolm, Helen and their children for providing a little oasis with an attentive, caring and yet unobtrusive environment. Job well done, congratulations and thanks.

I have stayed here twice and for good reason, Kate (for a foreigner ) is a awesome host and a real people person..the rooms are old but certainly not tied, very clean and spec and span. Organic verg outside to help urself, and even a old fashion sauna, which really done the trick. I would definitely recommend this place to stay in

i found this motel frightening and got a creepy feeling in the room,. like something bad had happened in there. also it appeared to me that the bathroom needed a really good clean.
i paid for the room before seeing it (lesson learnt) and then requested a refund. the owner or manager did come down to have a look at the dirty sink in the bathroom, and to her credit did refund me the money without complaint.
we both mentioned that it was the first time for both of us that this had happened.
needs a huge upgrade, old fashioned, and in the case of my unit dirty. the motel across the road is well worth the extra $20 or so extra dollars in my opinion, you won't regret it!

As the owner of Katikati Motel we are also very sorry this occurred. It is not the usual standard we expect of our cleaners and for our motel. We believe we have resolved the staffing issue around this incident and expect that it will not happen again.
