Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow what a lovely spot in Katikati. yes the rooms are small but they are lovely and have everything you need except an iron lol Comfortable and super nice bathrooms. Only 5 rooms in the place, I like them very much. Now the food was exceptional, menu has many different delicious meals to pick from. Bar service and range also very good. We had the seafood chowder and the mussels done in coconut cream and lime. SOOOOOO good. A great place to call in for a visit of a night.

I feel moved to write this review as I was so delighted with this stay. The accommodation was fantastic - and the room and facilities were well above what I expected for pub accommodation. It is clear the owners/management take the accommodation part of the business seriously with a recently refurbished room and a nice big TV with Netflix. So impressed. My only disappointment was that I didn't have the time to try the restaurant - it has a great reputation with the locals I talked to. Highly recommended!

Friends of ours invited us for Dinner at the Talisman this evening. Booked a Table for 6pm. 4 people. Arrived just before 6pm. Placed our dinner order with the Waitress at 6:08pm. At 7:20pm, we asked what time we might receive our meal. Received at 7:40pm. The vegies were cold, and there was barely a spoonful of vegies. My piece of Chicken in the Burger was completely burned and tasted like salty charcoal! The meal serving size seems to have shrunk somewhat since our last visit. Very disappointing. Was lovely to be invited out as we rarely if ever eat out due to affordability. Desert was a sharing Platter. Shocking amount on the plate for sharing. Considering how expensive it was. Again, disappointing 😞.

Very clean with everything you need. The room we stayed in was a good size but I think some of the others are small.

Great shower, fresh milk in the fridge, Netflix. A lovely restaurant and bar on-site, pizza across the road. Would definitely stay again.

Loved this hotel! I have stayed in many motels and air bnb's recently. I booked in here out of necessity as air bnb didn't work out. The food was fabulous. I'm a Chef by trade and it takes a lot for me to even comment. The room perfect. Staff amazing. I had lots of my sons friends visit and relatives regarding his up in coming 30th. Hopefully he doesn't see this. It probably looked suspect. I felt comfortable, happy and just impressed as my initial reaction when coming into Katikati, was to avoid it as it's a hotel. I can't recommend highly enough!!!

The 6 or so rooms which put the hotel in the Talisman Hotel are a find, and for the price, this place is a gem off season.
Despite being a ‘Large Queen Room’ -I’m not sure which bit was large- neither the bed or the room- it was a tight fit! But it was clean and contemporary. There is small, comfy queen bed amongst clutter and superfluous furniture - lazy boy, old sowing machine tables. Clean sheets and memory foam pillows. A slick modern bathroom - wet room- hot and powerful shower.
No recycling apparent and single, individual use products.
I stayed a Saturday night, it was quiet and no disturbance from the bar. The following morning there was more noise from fellow guests banging doors and making moves.
From experience the food in the pub/ restaurant is great, but pricey. Or there’s the great Waihi pizza opposite and the Fish Cove chipper a block away.
Would recommend and would stay again.

The four of us had to wait for an hour for our order of 3 steaks and a lamb dish, but the restaurant didn’t seem that busy. When our meals finally arrived all three steaks were undercooked to our order requirements . My steak should have been well done, but it was still pink inside, where as my wife’s steak which should have been medium rare was practically raw in the middle. Add to this we had to send two meals back as they were luke warm. Chips were undercooked as was the veg. Nobody come over to ask if we were enjoying our meal. We complained to the manager when we got the bill and to her credit she removed the cost of the two rounds of drinks we had from our final bill.
We live local but afraid we won’t be back.

When I say 3 in 1 area is because theres the hotel section, restaurant section n the pub section very handy.Bp petrol station is right next door.Four square is just down the road cheaper then the suprette that's across the road.If u dnt want to go to the restaurant theres a Pizza place across the road n bakery, subway, cafe all in walking distances.Room was nice n clean,it has air con.Was told that when having a shower must have the fan on or it would set the alarm off which it did coz my man doesn't listen haha. The hallway to my room was dark but it has sensor lights which turn on when u enter so that was good.Carpark has potholes so be careful driving on.I enjoyed my stay n would be happy to go back if ever back in that area.

OK, This is a bit hard to explain, but this was a nice friendly and clean place to stay, but the rooms are tiny. The bed takes up the whole room and there is nowhere to sit, no chairs, no cupboards, and the T.V. reception is very poor. The restaurant is good and the beer garden nice to sit in and drink although I personally think $9 for a beer is a bit rough. The traffic noise would upset a light sleeper. Lovely bathroom and internet is good. To summarise , I suppose you would say lovely but just too cramped for a couple.
