Detailed Reviews
Kay and Trevor make you feel right at home from the minute you arrive! The guest rooms are very well decorated and have everything you could need. The highlight has to be the cosy and home from home feel. Food was superb! Drinks, chats, stories and views to name a few are outstanding! This is definitely a 5 star (6 if you could do it). You will not be disappointed and only by visiting and being VERY well looked after by Kay and Trevor will you get to appreciate this fantastic place. We will be back again very soon!
Thanks again

We were in need on some relaxation and to recharge when we arrived at Matahui Lodge. And we got that and more! As well as great kiwi hospitality and food! The cooked breakfast was fantastic. It was great to have touches of luxury like wine from the vines and local produce, and quality magazines, What a treat. Thank you so much to Kaye and Trevor for making our stay so special.

We visit Marahui Lodge each time we go to New Zealand. The minute you enter the main gates you are overwhelmed by the spectacular view and the vineyards fanning out across the land.
Trevor & Kay are the most wonderful hosts: nothing is too much for them and whatever your requests there are no extra charges. They're both excellent cooks; Trevor will supply wonderful wines and it is all done with such generosity.

Trevor and Kay are a lovely couple who invite you into their home and look after you superbly. They are friendly, helpful and at no time intrusive. The lodge is furnished nicely, with stunning views across the lovely garden and vines to the water. We were treated to wonderful meals and really good wine as well as great conversation. I would highly recommend this lodge.

Trevor and Kay host guests like royalty. They truly care for your interests and make the stay more than the ordinary good B&B. We elected to have dinner there with another couple joining us making it a party of six. Trevor grows his own grapes and he is proud of his viticulture skills as he should be. He heard we liked a certain style wine and went to a local wine store to purchase the special wine for before dinner drinks and appetizers. Can't get any better. My wife says this is the best B&B she has ever stayed and I agree.

We spent this weekend in the beautiful Bay of Plenty. We were part of a 28 participant MG Car club "mini- rally" with the main day based around Matahui Lodge. Staying at the Lodge on the saturday night seemed logical and this grew to include the friday and sunday nights also. We arrived late afternoon on friday, somewhat hot and bedraggled, having travelled in the heat in an open MGA roadster. We were immediately welcomed, Trevor took his car out of the garage for us, and after a freshen up joined other guests for champagne and salmon. Bliss.
On Saturday, the most beautiful poached fruit, freshly made yogurt and fruit. My husband loved the full cooked breakfast.
We returned later in the afternoon with the fully MG entourage, and enjoyed Pride of Ownership and grass gymkhana on the lawn with scones and cream tea. We adjourned to the Lodge for drinks and salmon cured by Kay (stunning) The evening meal in the lodge for 28 was stunning. True hospitality.
Beautiful breakfasts, exquisite dinners and very comfortable accommodation with every need anticipated.

My wife and I spent two nights at Matahui Lodge just after New Year. New Zealand managed to conjure up 36 hours of continual rain, but that just meant that we had more time to sit with Kay and Trevor chatting, drinking and eating pre-dinner nibbles. We were joined at 5 each evening by their neighbours for an hour or so and the time passed more like old friends having a natter and putting the world to rights rather than as guests and hosts.
Trevor's 'pet hobby' of tending 900+ vines meant that there was always wine to sample which complemented the super (optional extra) dinners that Kay and Trevor prepared and that we all enjoyed together. Trevor also provided a good range of wines or beers to cover whatever we felt like having.
We stayed in the upstairs guest room (of two) which has super views out over the well-tended garden and pond to the bay and islands beyond. It was clean, well appointed and with a spacious and well-designed en-suite.
Overall this was a fabulous stay and a great place to unwind, be hosted and looked after whatever the weather! We will definitely be looking to return when the sun is out.

After a one night stay four years previously we had always wanted to return to this delightful place and stay longer. This time we stayed for 5 nights and would have liked to stay longer. Everything plus the weather was great. The hosts Kay and Trevor and the neighbor Beven go out of their way to make your stay very enjoyable, the hospitality makes you feel like one of the family. Meals, wine, views and location make for a great stay, especially if you like golf.

if there was such an award I would give it to Trevor and Kay they are fantastic hosts who make you welcome from the moment you pull up outside their beautiful home. You would be wise to book in for dinner as the food is delicious and the wine is free flowing ( thanks to Trevor who has a dislike of empty glasses, so be warned!!!) The rooms are also very nicely decorated and despite the bad weather we still managed a dip in the hot tub !!
A truely memorable few days in great surroundings and exeptional company where we definately left as friends
