Jan is an 11 out of 10 host.
The personal touches made our stay and my partners birthday surprise more special than I could have ever wished for. We got the dinner hamper although a little expensive and not particularly vegetarian friendly, (though NZ in my experience is still young to vegetarianism) was amazing!
I would highly recommend a visit here for any special occasion or just a lovely peaceful place for some lovely peaceful time out. I arranged massages for us both which were lovely and set the mood for a very relaxing evening. Followed by the outside bath which was another fabulous experience. The breakfast hamper was huge and again lovely with the fresh flowers picked the same day were an amazing touch. Great work Jan I don't know how you do it all and do it all at such an exceptional standard.

What a wonderful privilege it was for us to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary at the beautiful grounds of Warm Earth Cottage! If was by far our most memorable weekend. It’s truely a hidden gem.

The cottage was a delight set in absolutely beautiful grounds with the soothing waters of a river running nearby. Everything was set up so beautifully. Jan’s hosting and personal touches were outstanding plus! Just gorgeous. The meals were amazing, the outside bath incredible, the whole experience was wonderful. We felt very spoiled.

We would recommend a stay there to anyone needing a refreshing, romantic, revitilising, break, an away-from-it-all interlude from the busyness of life.

Thank you to Jan and Warm Earth Cottage for treating us so well and making our milestone so memorable.

Kind regards,

Stephen & Wendy Whitwell

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Warm Earth Cottage in 2012, and returned last month for our 10 year anniversary. Not much had changed in the decade since. It was still such a wonderfully relaxing place to spend time with your loved one. Drinks, nibbles and conversation was the order of the day. Jan is such a kind, nurturing and positive person and we felt like we were reuniting with a friend rather than a host. Absolutely recommend.

Native trees, abundant bird song, large swathes of lawn dotted with flower beds, a river with swimming holes, a cute cottage and a delightful owner; this place is special. It’s like staying in a park when the day visitors have gone home and there is peace in nature with home comforts. The lack of electricity in the cottages makes it extra special. The solar lights, Weber BBQ and gas elements make it easy. The wonderful cottage and grounds are a credit to the hard work of owner Jan, who adds many extra touches to ensure you enjoy your stay.

What an amazing find in a area of the country, that doesn't scream "tourist location". We stayed two magical nights and it was a dream come true.
Limited internet gave time to talk
The facilities were top notch, Jan is lovely and the food was perfect.
An old quote sums it up.. Happy Wife, happy life.

If you're needing an escape to unwind, relax and reconnect, this is where you should be!

The grounds are beautiful - spacious, well landscaped and with a river (which in summer would make a fab swimming spot) at the bottom. So much birdsong! It is laid out in a way that makes it easy to seem you are the only ones there.

The cottage was perfect. Nicely dressed, private, with a pot belly stove and lots of candles. No power in the rooms (although the guest lounge not far away does have power) which made it all the easier to escape from normal life! So quiet too. The outside bath was a special treat.

The breakfast basket was great, and a BBQ to cook on meant my husband did all the work while I watched with a cup of tea in bed! We took platter style food for the first night, planning to eat in town the second, but we didn't want to leave - lucky we had enough food, but I believe you can have a dinner basket on request.

Jan, the host, is so careful to ensure you have what you need but also that you are not disturbed.

We were very lucky to get a booking for Labour weekend, and we are so glad we did!

The location of Warm Earth is great too - just over 2 hours from Auckland, but we spent some time exploring on the way, via Paeroa and the Karangahake gorge. Half way between Waihi and Tauranga, so things to see and do if you wish, but i can tell you you won't want to!

I don't want to make it more difficult for us to get a booking again, so am hesitant to write this, but you really should stay here!

My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful night at the Warm Earth Cottages, celebrating our anniversary. Such a lovely place to stay - candles, flowers, woodburner and an outdoor bath - lit especially for us at dusk. We whiled away the hours and only wish we could have stayed longer! Jan is the most delightful hostess and our stay could not have been better! If you are looking for a romantic interlude with time to connect this is the place! Can't wait to return

We stayed here for my hubby' s birthday.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt relaxed. Jan could not have been more attentive, what a lovely, warm, accommodating lady!!!
We didn't realise how much we needed a place like this until we got there. 5 star all the way. Anyone who needs to escape, to get away from it all, this is THE place!!!

There is a not enough words in the english language to express ones experience of this amazing hidden secret. The world lives on as you embrace the tranquility and peacefulness of this truely piece of paradise secluded from absolutely everything. Perhaps a taste of the Garden of Eden.
When we arrived it was pouring with rain and cold and on entering our cosy cottage the pot belly had already been lit by Jan so the warmth embraced us as we stepped out of the cold. It could rain or snow forever, nothing mattered, there was plush fur throws on the bed, flowers, chocolates, cookies on the table, and candles galore to bring it all together for a couple of days to unwind and have much R n R. There was a BBQ for cooking an evening meal if you wish, and a log cabin up the walkway where you could light the fire, make coffee and read a book of your choice from the library. To top it all off was the outdoor fire pit bath that was lit by Jan at 4.30pm each night and you could soak away under the starry night in the glow of flaming lanterns. Now for the breakfast basket - take a look at the photos and what you see there is what you get - flowers and all - an abundance of God's wonderful tasty delights !!!! Thanks Jan - and 'thanks' is just not enough. It was wonderful and we certainly were speechless.

Our experience of pure bliss and money well spent is hard to put into words. I will never forget our stay at Warm Earth Cottage, beautiful, tranquil, friendly owners, romance at its best. From the beautiful and remote location of KatiKati New Zealand, the majestic land that the cottages are on, the local food provided, the outdoor tub heated by a warm fire underneath. No detail has been left out of the planning of a truly romantic get away. The owners talked of selling the property which I found truly heart breaking and last I talked to them they were in final negotiations with someone from the UK. I only hope the new owner leaves Warm Earth Cottage just as it is and takes just as much care to provide a little slice of heaven on earth to it's customers. I almost hate leaving this review, due to the fact that of all the places I have ever stayed, I'd like to keep this place my little secret. Alas, I just can't keep such a place from others and I highly recommend you stay here.
