We stayed at Molino le Gualchiere as a large group of 21 people, a mix of young children and adults to host our wedding celebration in mid/late May, occupying all properties. You arrive at the residence via a long windy driveway, which passes through vineyards and olive groves. You can’t help but notice the beautiful mountain scenery all around you. Molino le Gualchiere consists of 5 separate rustic villas and apartments, which were all nicely furnished with numerous bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a communal area. All bedding, towels and kitchenware were provided, each of the apartments has a stove top and fridge/freezer. You can spend hours walking around the beautiful grounds and admiring the hard work put in by the Arkadia staff who tend to the fruits and vegetables. The large central courtyard and pool terrace were great areas to congregate as a group, however the apartments offered peace away from it all!, We hosted our wedding celebration in the on site “La Taverna”, which was organized by Claudia and other members of the Arkadia staff. The setting and seven course meal was absolutely stunning!! We had a number of buffet meals during our time at Molino, again prepared by Claudia consisting of local meats, cheeses, breads and wine made from grapes from the property. All meals prepared were very reasonably priced. Sunny days were spent at the pool which was very clean and peaceful. Loro Ciufenna was approximately 25 minutes walk from Molino where there are beautiful restaurants (“la Ferreira” & “ Dimicla”) and coffee bars where you can watch the day go by, as well as a number of small shops so that you can pick up groceries. The walk along the road into town was a little “tense” in spots but manageable as there are no sidewalks, also remember to take a flashlight for the evening return walk!! Should you require a larger supermarket, Coop Fi is located in Montervachi which is about a 20 minute drive from Loro. I would definitely recommend a trip to Arezzo which is a 1hr bus journey (6 Euro return) from the center of Loro Ciuffenna, the bus journey through the mountains is worth the fare! Firenze can be reached via a 1 1/2hr train journey from Montervachi, you can get a bus directly to the train station from Loro. I would consider hiring a car the next time we visit, just for convenience. Oh and San Gimignano is a must!!

We can’t say enough good things about Claudia and the staff at Molino le Gualchiere they were very friendly and helpful (including out of hours trips to the doctors), with nothing being too much trouble! Claudia also provided helpful information with regards to local taxi companies (Stefano Taxi +39 349 491 7438) and other activities/locations of interest in the area. We have strongly recommended Molino Le Gualchiere to numerous friends and we will definitely be planning a return trip in the near future! We spent months researching the perfect Italian getaway, reading numerous reviews and reviewing prices. Molino le Gualchiere was perfect in every sense. It gave us the rustic, old world Italy we craved, and we wouldn’t change a single moment of it.

We are just back after a long weekend, a family reunion. The Molino has been simply perfect for our needs!
We are a large group of people, all ages, including babies.
The place is amazing, attention to details in the interiors, lot of space, dreamy location. We had the all place, every room is not just a room but a proper apartment, with kitchen and all the equipments and facilities.
Everyone has privacy in the rooms, but the beautiful garden and the picturesque taverna are ideal for sharing breakfast and dinner.
Claudia has been very helpful since I first contacted her.
Definitely good value, top quality service and highly recommended!
We all hope to be lucky enough to go back...

Well where do we start..an amazing place to stay!! We went to Molino le Gualichiere for my brother and sister in laws wedding in late May 2018, he has previously reviewed the property and gives great advice & details of places to visit. We travelled with a 9 month old & a 2 year old, we had all required amenities and plenty of activities to keep them both happy. Claudia had set up travel cots for us including bedding for our arrival and I was able to request a microwave to sterilise my sons bottles. we also had a bath in our villa which was also helpful for the children. My mum and dad stayed upstairs in our villa so having the adjoining lounge& kitchen worked brilliantly for us as we could eat together for meals. Our extended family staying in the other villas on site also joined us in the evenings for a get together in the lounge.
The whole wedding experience was absolutely beautiful and just perfect for my brother and sister in law, a lovely time was had by all the family members. What a venue this place is, the food and wine provided by the staff for the wedding was just lovely and we had the opportunity to eat the food and wine provided by them on a couple of occasions during our stay, all traditional Tuscan food.
During our stay my baby was sick and we needed to go the local hospital, Claudia arranged this for us, transported us the hospital and even came with us to check us in and make sure we got to the children’s ward ok. When we were done Claudia and Daniel came to pick us up and then drove around at night with us looking for a pharmacy for medicine for him. I cannot thank Claudia enough for being there for us in our hour of need and nothing was too much trouble, she even re-arranged her own family requirements to take us and pick us up.
When my brother mentioned we were going to Molino Le Gualchiere I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never been to Italy before and the pictures of the villa were difficult to work out, the pictures at the time didn’t do this venue justice as it is so peaceful and stunning. It is difficult to put into words just how perfect this place is. The pool is clean and was well used during our stay, Tuscany is beautiful, Loro Cuifenna is stunning and a lovely village to visit it is a 20minute walk from the villa to the town but there isn’t a pavement to walk along and can be a bit scary at times especially on the way home, if you’re out in the dark you definitely need a torch. The gelatto ice cream shop on the bridge is definitely recommended. If you need a taxi anywhere then call Stefano, he is so helpful and reliable!
One thing of note is that the property is rustic & my baby was crawling so I put a couple of blankets down on the tiled floor so he could crawl around. I also found that Florence wasn’t really very baby friendly and there was no baby change anywhere even in MacDonald’s, I would still recommend a viisit to Florence though!

Thank you Claudia for our amazing stay we had the most amazing time, we have totally fallen in love with Italy and we will definitely be coming back to stay with yourselves in the near future, Ruth and family xx

My husband & I stayed here for 6 nights at the end of June. My husband has lots of family in the local area & as we sold our house nearby we now have to stay in rental. This place definitely fulfilled our expectations! Quirky, rustic apartments that are immaculately clean & well equipped & a beautiful large pool to relax by.
While we were visiting it was fairly quiet in fact every afternoon when all the workers left we had the whole place to ourselves which was heaven. It's very peaceful & away from it all here yet only a 5 minute drive into Loro & 40 minutes from Florence & Sienna. We sat for hours on our balcony watching the wildlife (herons & barn owls to name a few) pass by.
Special thanks to Claudia (the manager) who was extremely efficient & dealt with any queries immediately & without a fuss. All communication was fast & easy adding to our overall enjoyment of the holiday.
We will definitely be back!

We stayed there for our daughters wedding celebration which was perfect, all the guests that were staying at Molino le Gualchiere were part of the celibration and all enjoyed the hospitality provided, the food for the wedding meal was an amazing array of Tuscan food that just seemed to be an endless stream of courses that were all excellent. The walk to Loro Ciuffenna was about 20 mins uphill, walking there I was wishing I had hired a car, walking back full of great Italian wine and pasta I was glad I had not. there is a nice gelato shop on the bridge in Loro and I would recommend sitting upstairs on the balcony with a cappuccino, wine or beer and looking at the stunning views over the town, there is a market on Mondays and some great lIttle shops including a butchers shop by the bus stop where the butcher was very friendly and helpful to our group, non of whom could speak Italian. Arrezo is a must to visit, only 6 Euros on the bus. We also visited Modena for a tour of the Pagini and Lamborghini factories which was well worth going, these need to be booked well in advance. I cannot wait to go back, and special thanks to Claudia and her husband for all the help and guidance. I should mention that this is a very rustic Italian place to stay, it has lots of charm and beauty, but if you are expecting a modern condo with all the amenities it's not for you. Personally we loved it!!!

This is a beautiful and very special place. It is operated by a not-for-profit organisation called Arkadia and all the profits support people with disabilities. It is a very peaceful and tranquil setting and a lovely place to return to after the crowds of Florence. There is a laid-back, non-commercial feel to the place. Claudia who manages the apartments was extremely pleasant and helpful.
We stayed in the largest apartment which was very spacious and has a large part-covered balcony overlooking the Tuscan landscape. The original mill, on which this apartment was built, is about a thousand years old. The structure has evolved over time and has a lot of character. It was very suitable for three teenagers as there was plenty of space and some activities including table tennis and boules. The WIFI works well in most of this apartment which also kept the teens happy. The pretty pool area does not get very busy and we often had it to ourselves.
While the location is very convenient for many key cities and towns such as Florence and Siena, there are also fascinating and very historical local points of interests. The local medieval village, Loro Ciuffena, is full of history (and several nice restaurants) and if you register with the tourist office, local students conduct voluntary guided tours. They will also give a tour of the Romanesque church in Gropina which is within walking distance (uphill) from the Molino. Don’t miss a local mountain village. We drove up to Rocca Ricciarda, it was like a step back in time. I would also recommend a local restaurant Il Piano that only opens when it has bookings (ask Claudia). You get a full multi-course typical Tuscan meal for €30 all in. Prosecco apperitif, red, white and desert wine were also included in this price so we were glad it was less than a 10 minute walk home.
Overall it was a very enjoyable, highly recommended holiday. Knowing that we were contributing to a worthwhile cause made it even better. Thank you to all in Arkadia.

A secluded retreat in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. When asked “what was your favorite part about your stay at the Molino Le Gualchiere”, so many images and memories come to mind. The friendly, kind staff that insured our comfort, assisted us with navigating the local area, graciously answered our many questions and helped us embrace the local culture. The two wonderful ladies that conducted our cooking lesson; sharing laughter, the secret to making Italian pasta and excellent tiramisu. Waking up to the beautiful sound of so many, many birds. Going to sleep at night to the beautiful quiet. A 5-minute drive or short walk to quaint Loro Ciuffenna for wine, bread, produce, happy hour with the locals, pizza and gelato. The comfort of the charming accommodations of the La Capanna (perfect for traveling friends with its 2 separate bedrooms and baths with shared kitchen and balcony, at such a reasonable price). The sweet, wonderful, dedicated and hard-working group with Arkadia with which it was our pleasure to become acquainted. The generosity of this amazing non-profit.

I think you get the picture. We highly recommend to anyone looking for a true Tuscan getaway!

The Molino Le Gualchiere is centrally located for perfect day trips of Tuscany by car. Numerous small towns with great views in the area. Opportunity for hiking, photography, biking and of course … eating abound.
