Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another lovely relaxing holiday at Murphy’s, this is our 4th year in row to holiday there.
Great facilities, always hot water in showers, cooking in cabins or at camp kitchen, as well as barbecues, everything you need.
Great place to relax.

We always enjoy Murphy's Holiday camp but since the bathroom upgrade, it's really made the place. Love the rubbish and recycling system too. The beachside campsites are amazing because the kids can play on the sand and we can watch them from the tent!

Friends and I had the pleasure of staying at Murphy’s Holiday Camp. We stayed in one of their very cute kiwi baches beachfront. The accomodation was very clean, decorated with kiwiana and situation within metres of a beautiful beach! The bathroom and toilet facilities are modern and clean.

The camp ground is owned and run by a NZ family. They are extremely friendly and welcoming.

If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday this is the place for you! We will definitely be back!

We recently spend two nights at murphys motor camp.the reason for visit was to help friends out who had a permanent caravan on site. They had sold their van and were getting ready to leave.
The location is amazing, the facilities were adequate but management lacked people skills. Wouldnt reccomend.

Clean and well looked after, camp.
We stayed in a cabin, which was adequate, and lots of campers too.
Cabin had toilet and showers a short walk away.
Located halfway between Tauranga and Whakatane, supermarkets either way.

This was our second time staying at the camp. Another good stay. We managed to get a choice of beach front sites again at the front of the camp. Great spot as you overlook the beach and only a few steps and you are there.

Owners are very welcoming and accommodating. And sites are very reasonably priced.

Good set up with fish cleaning station etc. Which we used several times after spending a few hours catching fish with kontiki.

There is access from the camp onto the beach with quad bikes for carrying kontikis etc. Fishing was very good!

Swimming still not always that good and at the moment there is a large drop in the sand down to the water at low tide. Don't remember that being their last year. Pity it has occurred right in front of the camp. But there isn't a very long walk if you need to get down to water more easily. As it can be quite a climb back up.

Once again camp was in very tidy condition.

We spent a couple of nights here last weekend. We were so lucky to get site 20 directly overlooking the ocean. The views are fantastic. Older style camp kept in very good condition. There are a lot of permanent caravans on site. Staff are very friendly and helpful. A family run camp that has been in the family since 1965. Toilets and facilities are of an older style but clean and tidy. Nice to see well maintained tracks around the camp and not dusty like some other places we have stayed. The beach is great for fishing and there is access for quad bikes etc. Not really a swimming beach but you can have a "dip" if you are careful. Good rates for the sites. It was our first visit to this camp but we are keen to return.

Everything perfect, awesome site, very friendly owners, pet friendly and great camp all round. I was amazed at the extensive recycling station, a credit to the owners. Good cafes and shops just 3 km down the highway with a neat little pop up container coffee shop? We will be back.

We love going to stay at Murphys. Friendly, relaxing camping ground. Amenities clean and tidy. Cabins are ideal if you don't want to stay in a tent. Variety of tent and caravan sites, many facing the sea. Selections below are asking for ratings on a hotel. It is not a hotel. Many people who visit here for the first time comment on the awesome view and relaxed atmosphere and say they will definitely be back.

Stunning, what a perfect spot to camp, directly on beach, the view in the morning with a cuppa in hand was breathtaking. Sitting there on beachfront in evening with a wine watching the sea roll in and the wildlife, there is nothing to compare it with, paradice. We will definatly be going back to Murphy's step out the door of camper and few steps and your on the beach... amazing spot.
