This motel really deserves more than 4 stars and was extremely clean, spacious and comfortable, but we returned from a long day playing golf one day to find that our unit hadn't been serviced. I certainly accept that these things can happen, but when we reported this, we were told that we would have to wait outside for the service to be done and there was no apology. We were made to feel it was our fault. As we didn't wish to wait outside (it was getting quite cold at 5pm and we were in light clothes) We said we would do it ourselves and to just give us clean towels. The omission wasn't the problem - it was the attitude of the hosts.

Response from Anne Gardner, Owner at 37 The Landing Motel
Responded 3 Dec 2021
Yes Mary we did miss your service. We only asked that you waited outside due to Goverment regulations and the fact that you do have an excemption not to wear a mask ( not your husband/parter). This was not attitude of the hosts, as we were very willing to make it right for you but you and your husband came to the office not wearing a mask. We are no different to a shop or medical center

My wife and I stayed here after an overnight cruise out of Whakatane. This is a wonderful motel!!! Exceptional quality for the price. They also have a in-room breakfast for a very reasonable price to get your day started. Our room was very nice with a jet tub, mini kitchen, and luxuriously comfortable king bed. Owners are also wonderfully helpful. Highest rating!!!

37 The Landing Motel has been my personal #1 motel in 2020 as my "home substitute" while working most of the year around various parts of NZ. I have stayed 2 weeks at this aesthetically pleasing, well-appointed, high quality "second home". The rooms are generously spaced, private i.e. quiet, a well-stocked kitchen; friendly hosts. I hope to be back soon.

We arrived to find we had been allocated room 16 right at the front of the property in the shade. After the owners dog had a good bark at me I asked if we could be moved. The owner said no as she was full. Anyway we went with it as we thought the very busy road outside would settle down. How wrong we were. The traffic was a bit quieter about 11pm but about 4am yes 4am it was like an earthquake had struck the building when the heavy lorries started passing through and they didn’t stop until the road became noisy with commuter traffic. Hence we had very little sleep.
The room was okay and appeared clean but any surface high up such as the cooker hood, picture frames and the bathroom fan were covered in dust and dirt. I didn’t go looking but at 6ft tall you easily see these things.
Luckily we only stayed one night as if we had stayed longer there would have been a fight over the three coat hangers. A few more would have been nice.
We also did some washing and at 10 dollars for a wash and dry paid the highest price for washing in our whole 6 week trip. Oh and the tumble dryer is on the wall above the washer and is upside down making it an accident hazard for anyone taller than 5ft but then again anyone who is 5 ft would not be able to dry their clothes as they wouldn’t be able to reach the controls. All in all not a good stay and we would have left if we had booked for more than one night.

Booked in for 1 night for my parents, my son and myself to visit a family member in hospital. The service was great. We were given a choice of 2 different rooms depending on how much space we wanted seeing as there were 4 of us. The rooms were incredibly clean and the spa bath was awesome. However on checkout I was informed that the room had only been booked for 2 adults and a child not the 3rd adult that was fine I was happy to pay the difference until I was then treated as if I had intentionally not disclosed that there were 3 adults and a child staying. The receptionists then told me there was a difference of $50 for 2 people that needed to be paid, I then questioned that as she had just told me the booking was for 2 adults and a child? I was then charged $25 for the 3rd adult which is fine I understand the difference in price but to be treated like I had tried to rip them off was a crap end to an already stressful night away at the hospital.

We stayed here for 4 nights with family and were very impressed with the rooms and the hospitality from the owners. Rooms are very modern, tidy and included everything we needed for our stay. Owners and staff were always very friendly. Very good location.

Will highly recommend 37 The Landing Motel when visiting Whakatāne

Booked one night and was pleasantly surprised. The room was fabulous, very high spec and awesome pressure in shower. Quiet at night due to double glazing, one level also and parking right outside the door.
Anne is very nice and accommodating when I asked for extra tea bags.
Have just stayed in another motel in Whakatane, which was lovely, but in future The Landing will get my No 1 vote. Close to the walk along the Whakatane river. The town centre is minutes away, supermarket close by. Easy to find motel once you drive into Whakatane.
Top Class.

This is a great motel. Comfortable bed and pillow. Very clean. Air conditioning. Quiet despite being on a busy road. Spacious and aesthetic room layout. Walking distance to a supermarket and takeaway shops. David, our host, was welcoming and accomodating of our requests. I would stay there again should I ever have a need to return to Whakatane. Great place to stay.

37 The Landing is a beautiful place to stay. From the time we arrived at reception to be greeted by smiles to the room itself. Everything is wonderful. The room is spotless, the bathroom is spacious, the bed is comfortable. We stay here whenever we are in Whakatane and rate it highly.

Stayed 4 nights in a Studio spa room. Lovely clean modern room, quality bedding, double glazing, hardly any exterior sound, great shower and spa bath. Has a heat pump and numbered parking. Just a short car ride over to Ohope Beach. Great hosts. Would defiantely stay again.

Hi Karen. I'm currently staying at The Landing as I reply. I cannot hear any road noise at all. Getting a corner room would not make a difference if you are after avoiding street noise.
