We arrived in Wakatane without booking any accommodation and on the main road into the town there are many motels to chose from luckily enough we chose the Alton Lodge. Our hostess couldn't be more accommodating and helpful ( she pointed out walks and drives we could do on a map) and our room was just fine, not 5 star luxury just comfortable and quiet. The only issue is that we only stayed the one night. The other draw card when we arrived was the owners lovely dog, Rozetta(?) She clinched the deal.

Alton Lodge was a pleasant stay (it was at the beginning of July 2020 so a few months ago!). We stayed in an excellent, well appointed and clean unit. Great price if booked through the motel.
A car is needed as it is too far from the CBD to walk.
Good restaurants to choose from in the CBD.
We would recommend this motel and will stay again.
Note: Our ratings are before COVID hence the "Not Sure" options taken regarding hand sanitizer extra.

We had booked a twin studio unit and this was just what we needed for the two nights, although not a unit for a long stay as there was not a lot of storage for clothes, other than the wardrobe, and a bathroom vanity would have been handy. There was no spare kitchen cupboard space for food supplies with all cupboards taken up with kitchen accessories, including the electric 2 burner cooker which was stored at the bottom and back of a cupboard (not easy to find and get out).

However, on the plus side it was all very clean, the bed was very very comfortable, there were all the kitchen and bathroom accessories we needed, and the motel was handy for the venue where I was attending an event. It was surprisingly quiet considering the motel is on the main road into town. The pool was closed as not in season, but it looked nice and if it had been open I would probably have used it.

We got a warm welcome on arrival and staff were pleasant to deal with.

Many thanks for your review and from what you say you were in one of our disability access units which has meant that the kitchen space has been limited and why there is no vanity. It has led to challenges for us to fit everything in. Glad everything else suited you.

Stayed here 4 nights in February 2021 - very roomy accomodation & well placed for both town & beaches. Good facilities and very friendly operator. Like all motels I recommend booking direct to get best deal for you and for the operator.

Ideal facilities and location. There for an eight day work trip. Good wifi, good table to work at, comfy bed, good shower. Kitchen had everything I needed. House keeping was thoughtful but not intrusive. Very quiet neighbouring section (you’ll see why when you stay!). Good value rates too. Stayed in room no. 2.

It is clean and tidy, close to every thing we need. People are very welcome and nice and helpful. Price? Very reasonable. Room and bathroom are very spacious, car parking is available too. It was a cold night outside but it was warm inside and comfortable.
