Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unusual setup for backpackers. Rooms surround a courtyard with tables in the sunshine or under a porch. Took room for three, but only had two in it. Good kitchen and lounge. Owner very helpful and pleasant. Within an easy walk to Countdown and the town itself.

Really dirty there! Stinks afwul and everything is so grubby! Not a place you want to stay one minute more than you have to. The reception was really friendly and returned us the money but that's the only good thing. It was maybe one nice there but defintely not anymore

Stayed at this place for two nights while visiting White Island, the owner was very helpful and friendly and picked me and my friend up from the bus stop and also took us to the White Island rendezvous point in the morning. We stayed in a dorm for just $20 a night. The bed was ok comfy enough and we had a heated blanket, glad we did as outside the bed was so cold as we were sleeping In a portacabin, I'd recommend other heaters in the room. the room smelt funny too... bathrooms were clean and kitchen was of ok standard... I wouldn't want to stay longer but was ok for two nights.

We stayed only one night. But it was a very nice place and host. The kitchen was very good and clean! They are dry towels!!! All caobiards and shelve are named. So find easy the cutlery, pans and more. Very recommended.

Booked into a 4 bed dorm. Room was clean and staff were nice. Went to bed and was impossible to sleep in it, mattress was so thin and old I was basically sleeping on the wooden lats. Tried to get more comfortable but every time I moved the bed was so noisy I woke everyone else in the room. Eventually gave up and slept on the floor which was actually more comfortable. Informed reception the next day who responded telling me there was nothing they could do and what did I expect for 25 dollars. Obviously staff are only nice until they have to deal with an issue. Manager was not there and would not be rang I was told as he was out for a walk. Would pay the extra 3-4 dollars to stay somewhere else in the town in future and will not be recommending this hostel to any of my friends coming here.

The staff were nice and friendly. Will pick you up and drop you off at info center when needed. The rooms are pretty small and the fridges are tiny. No space for your bags. Not enough power plugs in the rooms. There are many permanent people living here so if you're a backpacker you're not gonna meet a lot of people in the same situation. The facilities were nice but terrible shower pressure and temperature

Staff were nice and helpful. Good facilities. I was very comfortable staying here. The other guests were nice. The location is across the road from the supermarket and takeaways within 2 blocks and main street of town within about 5 mins walking distance. Dorm beds were comfortable. Separate male/female bathrooms that are nice and clean. Recommended :)

We booked 2 rooms in a dorm room for the labour weekend holiday. Less than 2 weeks prior to our arrival we received a text message indicating that the bed had been double booked and our booking had been cancelled. After ringing back, a replacement room was found at the backpackers. However, it was stressful attempting to change pre-arranged plans at short notice. Once there, the rooms were clean and well maintained. However, I would be unlikely to use again.

I stayed for one week in a dorm room which is only $99. As it is in winter, extra blanket and hot water bottle is provided. The hostel manager is so nice even she made food for us. The location is good as Countdown is very close to the hostel. And close to KFC, McDonald, Burger King and Domino Pizza, etc. Around 5 minutes walk to town centre. The Wifi is not stable, even my laptop is connected to the Wifi, sometimes it just loaded forever. There is a 5 minutes shower timer. I am ok with 5 minutes shower but the problem is the water temperature is not stable. If someone turn the tap water on, the water will become very hot or very cold.
