Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have just done a whistle stop tour around the Coromandel Peninsular and found this fabulous little retreat hidden away at the end of a quiet street in Coromandel town. THE BEST BACKPACKER HOSTEL for miles. For cat lovers there is the most beautiful resident ginger manx cat.

Checked in here for five nights, we arrived disheveled, tired and hungry and left looking very refreshed. We stayed in a private room, both beds supplied with new mattresses, feather duvets and pillows and a good heater. The room itself was very spacious and clean. Bathrooms and kitchen were also clean. Simon was really nice and was always asking us if we wanted to join in with things, plus Sid and Pudding (dog and cat) are awesome too. Was sad to leave today and would come back again soon!!

I spent a night here by myself in the womens dorm. It is a cosy hostel with lots of character.
Very comfortable bed and clean living quarters.
Would defiantly go back again and recommend to others going to Coromandel town.

We stayed in the elephant room, and it smellled as if the bedding had never been washed. There were also roaches in the kitchen. Funky, friendly, with a lovely outdoor shower, but I would not stay here again.

I loved this place - Edy was friendly and accommodating, and it is so eclectically decorated.

Had a lovely vibe to it and was very relaxed. Coromandel Town itself is a pretty place to tuck yourself away from it all for a few days, too.

I stayed here back in December 2009 It ruined my holiday.
I had to wait a least 20 - 30 minutes to go to the toilet first thing in the morning, due to shower and toilets being together. I went to the owner to ask if i could use their's as I was desperate. She didn't care, told me to wait. I wasn't the only one waiting either. There were also three other people.
After the couples finally emerged from the two choices of bathrooms. There was hostility between the backpackers. I couldn't get out of the place fast enough.
If the management had been understanding this could have been avoided. Maybe the toilet facilities have been improved? But no doubt the attitude will be the same.

Saw it in Lonely Planet and thought it sounded like a quirky place to stay for our night in Coromandel. Edy was great, very welcoming and friendly. Our african themed double room was small but clean and comfortable and we had a great night's sleep, although the walls are a bit thin so we could hear other people as soon as they were up and about in the morning. Shared bathroom facilities are ok. Shared kitchen and living space is great, with plenty of places to lounge about and a large wooden table for everyone to eat at and share stories over breakfast. We found out lots about the local area and good fishing spots from others round the table. Would definitely stay again!

We stayed at Lion's Den and found the cleanliness lacking in areas - the cobwebs on the windows and above lights had not seen cleaned in a LONG time, although other parts were fine. Also, would NOT recommend for women on their own as not many locks on bedroom doors and owner, although very friendly, did not see any issue with this. In fact the door did not lock on the shower and a man walked in. The lock worked and the door shut fine, but the door could still be opened as issue with the grove in the door, and when pointed out the owner said you just had to put your hands on the inside of the door and push (that was the answer rather than a cheap bolt or a notice on the door)! Also showers and toilets were together so a number of people could not get to the toilet at rush times as the showers constantly used. In all my travelling I've never seen toilet and shower in same room in a busy backpackers. The owner was friendly and the place quite unusual, but needs thought on the basics - security and extra cleanliness.

I really like the vibe of this place. Welcoming owners, cosey common areas and an overall laid back attitude. Also very important, you'll get a nice quiet night sleep here! Outside areas and reception area could use a sweep and some cobweb removal but other than that this hostel shouldn't change a thing to. It's a unique place. So good to see how it stepped up it's game from the last time I've been here.

Stayed here for a few days so relaxing after being in the city.

Made to feel at home and a beautiful garden to chill in. The whole feel of the place is super relaxed.

Close to local amenities and tour operators and an I site . Wifi is available at a small price or ypu can go into town for free wifi.

Overall awesome place and fantastic hosts would definitely visit again one day .
