My wife and I have just stayed three nights at Mangrove Manor located on the edge of Coromandel Town. Anne & Peter are great hosts but admitted they are ready for a change after running their B & B for 8 years. They have the property on the market and hope for a sale soon. The property is immaculate.
Our room was comfortable but a little small - there was no wardrobe and hanging any clothes was limited to a few coat hangers on some hooks in the room.
Peter cooks a great breakfast!

Thanks Peter for your feedback. In all fairness, we did offer to store at least some of your cases next door to you in the utility room, and as mentioned it does serve as a large hanging space as well..Our Queen sized rooms do have ample hanging space for our guests on their travels. And We will have the place marketed at the end of the season, but for now it is business as usual for the next 6 months. Thanks Again. Anne & Peter

This is a long overdue review for a 3 night stay with Ann and Peter in January. We had called ahead to state our arrival time, as we were arriving from Rotorua and still wanted to see some of the surrounding thermal areas. Well we of course underestimated the time it would take us to get there, and a worried Ann called us on the way to make sure we were safe. We felt quite embarrassed to arrive so late, but it was no trouble at all for Ann and Peter who escorted us to our plush room and where we tuckered in for the night.

We stayed in the upstairs Sea View room, it had been a warm couple of days so the room was a bit warm so if you stay in this room just make sure you pull the drapes when you leave for the day. There's a mini fridge with tea, coffee and biscuits just in the hallway for our convenience. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was fantastic. The decor is plush and contemporary. Breakfast was fantastic, with the continental option or the full on eggs ham and tomato, served in a lovely dining room surrounded by glass doors.

At the time of our stay we were in the process of preparing our move back overseas, so we were in the tedious process of listing everything on TradeMe to sell it, including our vehicle. Peter was so kind as to lend us everything we needed to clean the car, but also reminded us we were there to enjoy ourselves, and lent us shovels so we could go dig ourselves some personal spas in Hot Water Beach :)

One final thought: I always love to read TripAdvisor reviews to see if there are pets in any place we might be staying in, as they provide such a lovely "home away from home" touch. Ann and Peter have a beautiful, very affectionate dog, but if you're not a dog person fear not, she can be very discreet as well!

A very belated thanks for a lovely stay. Would definitely come back.

I had great days in Mangrove Manor with wonderful hosts. They are helpful, warm, friendly and lovely. Coming by Ferry from Auckland I was picked up and dropped in Coromandel Town. They gave me a ride to town whenever I wished. Peter repaired the bike I hired. You soon can feel at home. The room and the bathroom are clean (garden room with a spacious private bathroom). You can use the large living room and the beautiful garden. You can stay for a longer time here.
It is the perfect place for exploring the northern part of Coromandel Peninsula, by car or by bicycle. There are walking tracks and walking ways nearby with great walks around Coromandel Town to Kauri forests, bushwalks with overwhelming views to the sea and the bays.
Great days in a wonderful place with wonderful hosts.

Angie and Tony were wonderful hosts but have only recently bought this business. Our overall impression is that they do not understand what they have taken on and are out of their depth. Cleanliness is a major concern. We returned at the end of the day to find the breakfast dishes unwashed and half a loaf of bread where we left if, on the dining room table, covered in flies. Jam in the fridge was covered in mould.
Great location and nice rooms but the owners do not understand the concept of customer service.

Anne and Peter were very gracious, helpful hosts who made us feel 'at home'.
The house is on the edge of mangroves with a nice view to the ocean in the distance.
We travelled in mid March and the temperature was about 21C. The fan in the room was barely adequate to keep the room cool enough to sleep. In mid summer it must be very hot at night in the sea view room.
The bedroom was quite small and there was no room to hang clothes other than some hooks behind the door. Also, the bed had a footboard and this made the bed too short for a 6' person.
The bathroom amenities did not include shampoo, conditioner or body lotion as we have typically found in other B & Bs. Also, surprisingly, there were no biscuits in our room or downstairs to have with our tea.
If you are sensitive to automatic insect repellents through the house, please ask Anne or Peter to turn them off.
Peter made a wonderful breakfast which complemented the continental breakfast. It was very nicely cooked and presented, with choices of tea, coffee and toast.
The free wi-fi was fast and reliable.
Anne and Peter have a lovely B & B and with a few changes it could be excellent.

Thank you for your feedback from your recent overnight stay ,as it was only a few days ago, we do recall it as one of the hottest nights we have experienced this season, and with the Seaview Room most famous for it's sunsets, it does heat up if the blinds and curtains are left open. (Also, your comment re: front rooms on the house could be noisy during the night - there are no front bedrooms in the house.) As detailed in our guest compendiums, any extra shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, etc, are always on hand in our utility room upstairs, should anyone require them. Our bathrooms are well stocked with make up removers, 2 types of hand & body wash/soaps. Also stated is our home baked bread and jams downstairs in the dining room , being available any time for an additional snack, with Tea/Coffee. There is 1 fly repellant in the house which is used intermittently in the large downstairs guest lounge on the exceptionally hot days, and you may have noticed me turn it off whilst I was sitting helping you select your following nights accomodation in Whangarei.

We were here for 2 nights for my birthday in June 2012, and what a great place to celebrate. Lovely Anne and Peter chatted with us, gave us a ride into town, and showed us around. I wish I had time to get a massage from Anne, but we definitely had time for a delicious breakfast that Pete prepared and awesome yogurt and healthy homemade bread that Anne made. We especially loved the thoughtful plating of the hot breakfast for us, as my boyfriend is a chef, he thought that was cute! Awesome shower pressure, great view from sea view room, great B&B atmosphere with the perfect amount of privacy for occupants as well, I liked that touch. And most comfortable mattresses EVER! We still talk about those almost 6 months later! Close to town, or an easy walk, tranquil, great spot to start your Coro tour, or just to get away from it all.

Very clean, cosy. The Location just about 1,5 km outside Coromandel is a nice spot. The owners are very frindly and helpful. The garden around the house is very much cared for.

The drive towards Coromandel is a sensation. Although there have been reports about a damaged costal road we did not have any problems. A beautyful drive!

If you like to have dinner we can recomment "Pepper Tree" in Coromandel!

We stayed three nights during our tour of NZ, Peter and Anne were excellent hosts, couldn't ask for better. A nice peaceful, quiet and relaxing stay a few km outside Coramandel, no 'hustle and bustle', just a comfortable stay with an excellent breakfast, in a beautiful house. Highly recommended.

What a great place to stay! Just a few minutes drive from Coromandel town. You are met by gracious and charming Anne who makes you feel very much at home, and she is ably supported by MasterChef Peter, who doubles as your perfect Tour Guide advisor, with his in depth local knowledge of what to see and do, and where to eat. Don't worry about which room you stay in - they are all very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Mangrove Manor is the ideal base for exploring the beautiful Coromandel area.

Many thanks for your kind words Haydn. We really must profess to being a humble Bed & Breakfast, albeit a Purpose Built one, and enjoy helping guests feel comfortable & relaxed in a homely environment. I know having the Downstairs Treatment Room probably makes it feel more Hotel like, that is once again for Guest's Relaxation. Our Facial & Body packages seem to enable guests to relax after a long journey especially. Thank you again for referring some of your colleagues to us too. Glad you were both able to relax & enjoy the house & grounds. Thanks again, Anne & Peter.

Janice and I recently had the good fortune to spend two nights at Mangrove Manor a beautiful home purpose-designed for a bed and breakfast. A communal lounge was comfortably furnished with a great selection of magazines and a high quality television that complemented the one in our room.
The hosts, Anne and Peter Gray, were welcoming and provided great advice for touring the peninsula, including back roads that we probably would not have considered, otherwise. The choice of hot and cold items was very well prepared and got us off to a good start each day. Anne made her own multigrain bread that was a particular treat. We also enjoyed the quiet companionship of Chelsea, a large, furry, gentle dog of a breed I cannot recall. Coromandel is a peninsula of great natural beauty and Mangrove Manor is a perfect base from which to explore it.

Hi, Thanks for your correspondence, as mentioned none of the rooms are at the front, and the house is very well insulated to protect us from that noise factor. Look forward to seeing you in January. Many Thanks, Anne & Peter.
