Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We can’t rhapsodize enough about the outstanding view and location of this lodge. We think the west side of coromandel more scenic and genuine than the over-loved and over-visited Bay of Islands. The Manuka suite was spacious, very comfortable, with thoughtful touches including a monocular for viewing birds and boats, truly comfortable outdoor furniture, even lap robes to keep warm while stargazing. Kelvin and Lynn provide the best of true kiwi hospitality-would love to return!

We were delighted to be able to book two nights at Atea Lodge at fairly short notice. We stayed in Kauri Suite which the hosts, Lynn and Kelvin informed us in advance was a split level room with a bathroom downstairs - in case we had issues with stairs. We didn't and can only emphasise how delighted we were with the suite. So when the opportunity came up to stay a third night we grabbed it! And if you have a chance to visit Coromandel so should you!
As other visitors have noted, the outlook from the Lodge is magnificent and there is no better place on the peninsular to watch the sun set with a glass of wine in your hand! And we can't speak too highly of the hospitality shown by Kelvin and Lynn throughout our stay. At their suggestion and with their assistance we arranged a day's walk on the Coromandel Coastal Walkway - which was spectacular. Atea Lodge is a really special place we hope to return to.

Wonderful lodge with fabulous views and beautiful landscaped gardens. Lynn and Kelvin are excellent hosts and helped us make the most of our stay. Lovely room with great facilities, very comfortable. Really enjoyed the breakfast - excellent poached eggs! You can also enjoy a takeaway from Coromandel on your terrace with crockery and cutlery proved by the hosts. Great location for exploring the Coromandel Peninsula, 3 nights stay at least 👍

We have spent 4 nights in one of the three rooms. These are surrounded by a covered deck with great views in all directions. Room is quality with very comfortable bed. Lynn & Kelvin provide superb service and delicious breakfasts. A path through the garden leads to an outside bath and shower and onwards to a recreation room with a full size bollard table and other games. About 5 mins drive from Coromandel Town where there are good restaurants and a variety of shops.

Near by is the Driving Creek railway. This is private venture that takes small groups up the hill to a lookout. Good fun.

This is special place for a tranquil break.

The Lodge only accomodates 3 Boutique Rooms, ideally for Couples, but that wouldn't stop singles going there and enjoying the Stunning views from the Balcony and the breakfast was excellent. Both Lynne and Kelvin are great Hosts and we had a really great short stay and wish it was longer. The property is amazing, with an outside secluded bath and a great Games Room with a full size Billard table, which is situated away from the Accommodation, so you can be as loud as you like. But waking up to a stunning view was unreal. You can eat your breakfast on the deck, which you have a private setting or go and mingle with the hosts and have it inside. Totally reccommend a few stays here, we couldn't of asked for anything better for our first visit to the Coromandel.

Atea Lodge is an absolute dream. It’s cozy, private and peaceful. And it has some stunning views that overlook the Coromandel.

Lynn & Kelvin are truly wonderful hosts who really make you feel welcome. As an added bonus, they cook a delicious breakfast each day and make sure you are well fed and watered before your days adventure begins.

Lynn and Kelvin also go the added mile, by giving you helpful directions, roads to avoid, tips for the best activities or even just hosing your car down because you’ve been on one to many gravel roads for the day.

This place really is a treat. And it’s somewhere we would definitely recommend to our friends and whānau, though if they’re coming here, we’re definitely coming back!!

This place is worth spending time in. The location is stunning, perched up on a hill with a huge veranda with 360 degree views. Each room has a separate area on the veranda to hang out with comfortable furniture and a table if you want to have breakfast outside. The rooms have been recently renovated and are very spacious, comfortable, modern, with a large bathroom . Little perks like free Netflix and Prime TV, snacks, drinks were appreciated. The hosts are lovely and breakfast was terrific. Lots of choice for breakfast. The hosts gave us ideas for places to eat and things to do. Can’t say enough positive things about our stay here.

We really loved staying at the Atea Lodge, it was our fav stay during our tour through NZ. Lynn and Kelvin are amazing hosts, very friendly and helpful!
The lodge has amazing views and is super chic! We had a hughe suit to ourselves and it has an patio were you can sit and watch sunset! Breakfast is really good! Freshly cooked (loooved the egg benedict and the bacon :))
Its very quite and great place to relax. You need a car to get to the city and back.

We will be back! ❤️

We had a wonderful four night stay at Atea Lodge just after Christmas. The lodge is beautiful with amazing panoramic views of the sea and hills all around Coromandel town. Rooms were five star quality and you could enjoy a lovely day just chilling at the property. Great location just up from Driving Creek Railway. Lynn and Kelvin were fantastic hosts, even picking us up from town after arriving by ferry from Auckland. Service and breakfast were excellent. Convenient packed lunches and evening snacks were available, plus beer or wine - great after arriving back after a long walk! We took a couple of day tours and it served as an excellent base for exploring the peninsula.

This place is amazing, the attention to detail and passion for hospitality is of the highest standard of our two week trip to NZ. The views are breathtaking, the outdoor bath and shower is something you just have to experience.

We will come back next chance we can and stay longer, I recommend a minimum two night stay to get the most of this beautiful place.
