Detailed Reviews
Judy and Gerard have recently taken over Jacaranda. They are friendly and efficient. Jacaranda is a beautiful house, with two good public rooms. We stayed in the blue room, a good room with en suite bathroom.

Unlike a chain hotel where everything is very predictable and consistent, you never quite know what you are going to get with a B&B as they are very much a function of the owner and the owners personality. In the same vein each B&B is completely different as some are in it just for the money whereas for others it is a lifestyle choice.
That makes a B&B quite difficult to review.
If you are looking at Jacaranda lodge as an alternative to a hotel then you are going to be disappointed as the facilities and service are very different. In a good way.
We stayed at Jacaranda lodge for two nights as part of our complete tour of New Zealand. The lodge is based around 3-4 minutes’ drive outside Coromandel Town up a small track away from the road. The gardens are filled with fruit trees which Robin the owner is using for her homemade breakfasts.
The day we arrived it had been raining and Robin had lit a fire for us in the spacious guests lounge. We were greeted like friends and sat for an hour eating the home made cake she offered us and drinking tea and coffee. We were made to feel very much at home.
The house is very roomy and as well as the guest lounge there is a guest kitchen.
Rooms are super clean and tidy and although there was no TV in the room with access to the guest lounge (which we had for ourselves on the day we were there) it was hardly needed.
Robin gave us a talk through of the things to do around the town and we found her to be very open and friendly. As she explained more to us about her view on life and running the B&B is became clear that she is also a very genuine person. We like that a lot.
Breakfast was a real highlight and everything on the table was homemade, from the Muesli to the apple and ginger home baked bread to the eggs that were laid by her own chickens and the orange and mandarin juice from her own trees.
It’s a shame that Robin has decided to sell and move on to new things but for the time being this remains a top B&B.

Response from JacarandaLodge, Owner at Jacaranda Lodge
Responded 20 Nov 2014
Thank you for you thoughtful and detailed review. I appreciate your comments and attention to all aspects of Jacaranda Lodge. Just to clarify, there is a tv in the large guest lounge and in winter (or on wet, cold days in spring) there's a welcoming fire burning in the log burner. However, it doesn't have a separate SKY decoder at this stage and guests need to ask me to programme the channel they require. And in case anyone is worried, I haven't sold yet! It's taking time and I'm still here hosting guests to the best standard that I can.

Robin is a lovely host. She is very chatty, makes you feel at home very quickly, and knows a lot about the local area and will give you wonderful ideas of what to do in the beautiful town of Coromandel. It is a beautiful property, the lodge is lovely, and the gardens are great. Breakfast is just wonderful - all homemade, even down to the jams, chutneys and bread! Eggs from her own hens! And if you stay more than one night she changes things up a little so it's not exactly the same every day. If you're passing through Coromandel, don't bother trying anywhere else. The stay at Jacaranda is worth it and will only make your time in town more relaxing.

Vielen Dank fuer alles! :-)

A really great B&B. Robin is an energetic and welcoming host with an excellent knowledge of the local area which she's happy to share with guests. The house (including the rooms) is very comfortable and I felt right at home straight away. It has a large, attractive garden where Robin grows much of the food she serves guests and being just a short drive from Coromandel town means it is conveniently located too.
If you're visiting the west, north or north east coast of Coromandel then stay here!

This was a return visit to the Coromendal after 20 years and it was everything I remembered. The Jacaranda Lodge is nestled in the hills outside of the town so the nights are quiet with beautiful views. This B&B was the cleanest one I have ever seen and we have travelled lots. The blue room on the second floor had lovely views and a cross breezes. Robin gave us wonderful suggestions for touring after carefully listening to what we wanted (little driving, few tourists, and off the beaten track). New Chubb's beach was such a special place. I would highly recommend this B&B to all.

The proprietor was an energetic and talented cook, gardener and font of information. She had a spotless guest house. Delicious home grown produce graced many dishes on the beautifully set patio table for breakfast as well as having freshly laid eggs cooked to order. I would happily return to this homey and clean bed and breakfast.

From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave Robin works tirelessly to ensure your stay is the best it can possibly be.
Rooms are scrupulously clean and spacious, the blue room that we stayed in has an ensuite. The bed was superb. Robin even provides an anti mosquito plug in!
Breakfast is a smorgasboard of fresh produce from her garden.
During the day and eve there is a good kitchen with fresh fruit and biscuits. Also Two lounges and a veranda to spend time in.
Most importantly Robin is a walking encyclopaedia of the local area! Wether you are staying one day or a week - let Robin organise your days for you, you will not regret it! She will tailor your sightseeing to ensure you see the best sights in the best order.
One simply cannot ask for better from a b&b.

We ended up here after a long day of travel. Robin was very gracious and provided a wealth of insite into local attractions. she also helped my wife find a high end woolen store several hours away but on our route. Best bed i've slept in all week, and very tranquil setting.
