We stayed just one night in the shoulder season (early May) and found the Harbour View suite exactly to our liking. On request during the booking the manager placed us in an end unit unit with no neighbours in the adjoining unit so it was very quiet. The king sized bed was very comfortable and came complete with three pillows per person. We used the outdoor spa pool at around 9.00 pm and found it clean and an ideal temperature for a hot soak before retiring. Upon learning the we were needing sheets and pillow cases for our next night at a bach at Rings Beach, Kuaotunu Bay offered to provided them for a small cleaning fee which solved a problem for us.

We were encouraged to pay when we arrived instead of using booking . com so anchor lodge wouldn't be charged an overhead. You will be in a backpacking lodge shared with a lot of other people who are noisy including the owners and their dog, children and entire family living at the lodge. Now we booked a room for 2 people for 2 nights but only with the intention of having my son stay provided my wife and I could use the bathroom when needed. The lady we dealt with agreed. A small man on the property kept walking passed my wife and looking at her and my son then approached me in our campervan and started asking me which room we booked and if we had a key and when challenged as to why he was asking all these questions he declared himself the owner then told us to get off their property with our dogs who not once barked or stepped foot out of the camper. He then got his wife to tell us the same thing. This was not an issue when we made the booking but now having spent 1 night they were making up reasons to evict us even though only my son stayed in the tiny jail cell room they gave him. My wife and I went across the road and some other relation of theirs came speeding out of the lodge with his dorr wide open then circled our camper then drove back inside the lodge. We felt threatened enough to leave. The lady promised to refund the 1 night we didn't use then emailed us today and said they wouldn't. Extremely horrible experience with dishonest and deceitful hosts. We will never come back nor recommend to anyone but we will tell everyone how unpleasant it was.

Response from ilikenicecustomers customers, General Manager at Anchor Lodge Coromandel
Responded 18 Jan 2022
Firstly I'm happy to hear you won't be back. I like nice customers. You don't arrive at a motel with dogs. You were friends of a guest staying so upon arrival you need to come to the office so we can scan your vaccine passes, you then need to ask us if we allow dogs on site and our answer would be no. Also you do not help yourselves to our facilities without asking. You were told we do not allow dogs onsite so you said you would park across the road. Then you thought it would be a good idea to ask for a refund for your friend at 4pm simply because we don't allow dogs onsite. That is the end of the story. None of us then drove around intimidating anyone. That is not how we operate but I did get a good laugh out of how inaccurate your review is. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday in your camper van

A lovely place to stay. The Lodge has very comfortable rooms with everything we needed and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A short walk to eateries, the hotel and bottle shops in a cute old-timey village environment.

I can here with a friend I met as a backpacker. It was okay as a hostel. It was nice with a TINY pool and a hot tub both of which were a little sandy. The room was okay, clean but small (in a backpackers double room - as the dorms were full) The kitchen was very basic no spices or oil but pots pans out plates etc. Felt the place was a little rundown and a little dirty in places. (Maybe just the backpackers bit) staff weren’t that chatty. In good location, towns very close.
I really liked that you could hire bikes (for free !) we cycled all the way to Waiau falls and the to then onto Waiau kauri grove. A long bike ride definitely worth it especially if you’re a cyclist. P.s there’s a hill only a short way from the lodge that’s a 15min walk to the top with a 360degree view of the town.

We loved our stay at the cabins at Anchor Lodge! Sue was extremely helpful and accommodating in allowing us to reschedule our trip 3 times due to the continuous crazy weather over the summer! The cabins are clean, it’s on a lovely quiet spot with tranquil views and the spa is a great spot to relax in the winter after a big dinner! Will definitely be back :)

The room was large with a double and a single bed. Good sleeping comfort. The bathroom had a pleasant shower cubicle. The kitchenette was brand new. A table with three chairs and two garden chairs on the terrace complemented the equipment.
