Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is always great when the advertising matches the reality. This is a lovely small motel with high quality rooms. The kitchenette and bathroom were spacious and lovely. i was on the ground floor and the back sliding door was only meters away from a great small pool area - great for cooling off after a busy day travelling. It was also handy to be able to park right outside the unit as this made loading and unloading the rental car very easy.
The manager and staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Thames is a great little township with lots of shops, restaurants and some interesting historical museums and such to visit. beautiful countryside and very central to heading north or south.
I will definitely be staying at this motel again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this clean and comfortable motel. Although close to the road no traffic noise penetrated the double glazed windows and with aircon in the room no need to open windows.
There was a nice little patio to enjoy a glass or two of wine in the afternoon sunshine. (Unit 4 downstairs). Somewhere to hang clothes and a rubbish bin in the bathroom would have made it perfect..

We had a great stay at the Avalon Motel. Vaughan was very pleasant and helpful and he was very informative about the area and places that we wanted to go to. The motel unit was very clean and tidy, well appointed and spotless. It was quiet and the beds were very comfortable.

Conveniently located at the entrance to Thames. The gardens are beautiful. The rooms are spotlessly clean and reasonably comfortable but not very sound proof. Our room was located upstairs. Road noise was audible as were the noisy children next door. The kitchen was spartan with only a microvave oven. If staying with children request a ground floor room that has ranch sliders opening onto the garden and easy access to the pool.

Very clean, friendly staff. Super pool to relax in this very hot summer. Very quiet and I would go for the downstairs rooms the only downside was no enough cupboards and draws to put your clothes in. Very close to all the shops. All in all one of the better motels I have stayed especially for the money

Wow!! Thank heavens for the kind people of Thames. We were stuck after a car breakdown on a late Saturday afternoon of a long weekend. Vaughn took us in at Avalon motel, helped us organize food for the kids, helped us find solutions to our car issues and also took time to taxi us the next day. Amazing place, amazing people. Thank you, we are eternally grateful for you kindness!

If I could give this more than 4 stars I would. We love our weekend trips away and do them quite often, so far Avalon Motel is the nice one we have stayed at in a really long time. It’s spacious for our family of four, very clean and tidy and the bed are comfortable. The staff we really friendly. We will definitely be back! Thanks 😊

I booked last minute directly and found their website easy to use. The unit was clean and warm and is about a 15 minutes stroll from town. We got a great sleep as the room was very quiet. The Manager was friendly and offered to park our bike in the storage shed.

We made reservations at the Avalon through the I-Site Information Centre in Te Aroha on our way to the Coromandel range. We were very pleased that the motel was on the main highway and that we did not have to search for it. The manager gave us the choice of two rooms that had just been remodeled. The rooms are all on the ground floor and were more like suites than simply motel rooms. Both were very large, had a kitchenette, a microwave and refrigerator. The one we chose also had a table and two chairs so we were able to use our computers comfortably. The wifi was very fast. The terrace right outside our room was an extra bonus which we were sorry we could not use. By the time we returned from dinner, it was very cool; it was too chilly to sit outside. The manager was accommodating to any request we had. We are sorry that we had not asked for a small space heater because it was still early spring and it was actually cold at night. Luckily, the beds had fleece blankets so we slept well. The grounds and small gardens around each individual room were lovey and it was clear the management cared a great deal about the aesthetics of the surroundings. While the Avalon may be described as a three-star accommodation, the motel gives you value for your money.

The place we were supposed to stay at got flooded during the storm and had no power and water, so we were left to look for alternative accommodation. We were so lucky we managed to get the last apartment here! The manager was so friendly and helpful. The apartment itself was very spacious and looked like it has been recently been refurbished. Huge flatscreen TV a bonus! There was a kitchenette with fridge and microwave, but no stove top. Everything was spotless and clean. Location is a short walk from centre with cafes and restaurants. Beds were super comfy!

Thanks for saving the day(or night)!
