As my hotel of choice in Wijk Aan Zee for an annual weekend music event that takes place in the nearby Café Du Zon, this was my fourth or fifth stay in the Hotel Mare Sanat. Checking in was as always, quick, friendly, efficient & fuss free & in just a few minutes of entering the hotel I was on my way up the narrow stairs to my room.
With the hotel having just a small number of rooms it was, I suppose, inevitable that I would stay in a room that I have stayed in previously. Non-smoking like all of the rooms, my room was designed in an old style that fitted perfectly with the rest of the building & with its eye-catching colour scheme I was set for a comfortable weekend even though I was only using the hotel for sleeping, showering & breakfast. With a carpet floor there was a very comfortable double bed, tv, work desk, armchair, wardrobe, full length mirror, folding luggage rack, smoke alarm & plenty of electrical sockets. Plenty of natural light & no issues with noise from inside or outside of the hotel. Wi-Fi was very good, quick & very consistent.
The bathroom was on the small, tight side but nevertheless, as a solo traveller, big enough for me. With a shower with good pressure & plenty of hot water, shower curtain, shower cubicle, hairdryer, mirror, shampoo, shower gel & plenty of towels.
Breakfast was continental style with good quality products including cereals, toast, yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses, whole fruits, breads, jams etc & teas, great coffee & orange juice.
The hotel is in a great location, just a short easy stroll to the beach, the village centre, bus stops, restaurants & bars. I did not have a car with me but there is car parking (which I believe is free) on site.

Stayed for 3 nights when in the area for a wedding. Nice continental breakfast on offer in the morning. Clean and welcoming rooms with hot drink facilities (no fresh milk, there is a local shop to buy this). The hotel owners were very friendly and helpful with organising transport and giving advice about the local area. Would thoroughly recommend.

This was a lovely little hotel. I was over for my Brothers wedding and wanted to be by the sea. The hotel was very rustic and this added so much and matched in with the rest of the Village. Friendly staff and great continental breakfast. The hotel was very clean and worth the price. Was a few minutes walk to the bus stop and to local bars and restaurants. The beach is also a few minutes walk, shame the weather and time didnt give us much time to enjoy. Will defiantly be back.

I chose this hotel mainly because of it's location, close to the centre of the village & because it was located at the bottom of the fairly steep hill which leads up to a couple of bigger hotels. I arrived much earlier in the day than the advised check in time but still received a really warm welcome from the owners & was shown instantly to my room, which was ready, with no checkin formalities at all. My room was on the top level, up the stairs as i didn't see any lift. The room was fantastic, really bright & airy owing to it's roof windows. It was clean & extremely comfortable with a great bed, wall mounted tv, table & chairs, wardrobe, full length mirror & bedside lockers. The room temperature was controlled from within the room by means of a thermostatic radiator valve. The bathroom wasn't huge but was more than adequate with shower enclosure, basin, plenty of towels, shower gel & shampoo.
Breakfast was good, continental style in a comfortable, bright dining room. I arrived down to breakfast almost an hour after breakfast should have finished but found my place still set & waiting for me, typical of the friendly atmosphere that the owners have created. There is a small bar in the reception area with nice comfortable seating, perfect for a relaxed beer. On checking out I left my bag in the room at reception(without any charge) as i had several hours to kill & that saved me from hauling it about with me.
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel.Location wise, it was no more than 5 minutes walk to the village's long sandy beach. My room was excellent & the owners were great, really friendly. The entire atmosphere & feeling of the place was so welcoming. I expect to be writing a repeat review for this hotel next march.
In the village itself, Cafe de Zon is great & the Whisky Bar(yep, the Scottish spelling) is good for a last, late night drink on the way back to the hotel. I had a great meal in the Sonnevanck Hotel restaurant & the village snack bar is okay for fast food if that's what you're after.
I had plenty of time on my hands for the journey back to Amsterdam so i got off the train in Haarlem for a couple of hours. A really nice city with a very pretty old square & some fabulous buildings. Well worth a visit.

I only had to walk in the door of the hotel to be reminded of why I had booked to stay again, as I was greeted with a warm & friendly welcome & handshake from the owner. Check in was as un-informal as it gets with just a handover of my room keys, a mention of the times for breakfast & no signing of paperwork or pre authorising of my credit card asked for.
My room for this stay was a single on the ground floor, across from the kitchen & breakfast restaurant. Adequately sized for my 2 night stay it was clean & very comfortable with perfect room temperature & plenty of natural light. It had a very comfortable single bed, wall mounted tv, foldable luggage rack, full length mirror & a decent sized wardrobe. The bathroom wasn’t huge but was clean & bright & had a shower with good pressure & plenty of hot water, shower curtain, more than enough towels, shampoo, shower gel & other toiletries. The toilet was in a closet sized space separate altogether from the bathroom.
Breakfast was continental style, very relaxed in the pleasant dining room with cereals, toast, yoghurts, fruit, boiled eggs, cold meats, cheese, breads, tea/coffee & fruit juice. The hotel doesn’t have a bar as such but does have a small counter close to reception with a cooler full of beer, wine & soft drinks & very comfortable armchairs to chill out. It’s more or less self service & based on trust, as you leave a note of whatever you take from the cooler if there is nobody at reception to serve you. For smokers there is an area outside, just off reception, with tables & seating. I needed to be at Schipol airport by 11.35 on the morning of my departure so I booked an early morning alarm call on the evening before. The alarm call, which I answered, came by phone at the agreed time & was followed up by a knock at my door a few minutes later, making sure that I hadn’t dozed off again, typical of the all round good service that the hotel offers. On checking out I had a nice surprise as, without any prompting for me, my room rate had been dropped by several euros per night from the rate we had already agreed when booking.
It’s worth mentioning that there is no lift in the hotel & the stairs are fairly steep & narrow so, guests with a mobility problem may have difficulty there but in all honesty, that’s the only negative that I could think of with this hotel.
With free car parking at the front of the hotel & it’s proximity to the beach, village centre, restaurants & bars, it’s situated in a great location. Once the dates become available for next year’s weekend away, I’ll be booking the Mare Sanat again.

My third stay at this wonderful, small, stylish, charming & cozy old world hotel. It’s been a few years since I last stayed in this hotel but very little seems to have changed in that time & the hotel is still as good as I remember it being on my previous visits. A quick, friendly & non informal check in & we were heading off up the tight, narrow stairs to our room, which was the same room as I stayed in on a previous visit.
A nice sized, non smoking room with an eye catching colour scheme, carpet floor, comfortable double bed, tv, armchair, wardrobe, full length mirror & folding luggage rack. Room temperature was perfect, controlled by a large radiator. Plenty of electrical sockets. Roof windows let in an abundance of natural light. No issues with noise from inside or outside of the hotel.
Our bathroom was small but still ok with a shower with good water pressure & plenty of hot water, hairdryer, mirror, shampoo, shower gel & plenty of towels.
We went down for breakfast at around 09.00 & there were a number of guests already there but still, we had no problem finding a table. A nice, simple, continental buffet breakfast with good quality fayre including cereals, toast, yoghurts, whole fruits, cold meats, cheeses, breads, boiled eggs, tea, coffee, hot chocolate & fruit juice.
Wifi, free of charge, was easy to connect to, quick & reliable.
The hotel bar was small & very laid back, a nice place to enjoy a bottled beer or 2 before heading out for the night. A nice outdoor terrace, though too cold outside to be able to enjoy during our stay, looked like it would be a pleasant location in the warmer days & nights of the summer months.
There is also a sauna & a jacuzzi but we did not use them & so, cannot comment on them.
The hotel is very well located, very close to the beach, just outside the village centre but just a very short walk to any of the restaurants/bars in the village or to the bus stops for the bus to Beverwijk.
There is an annual 2 night music event in Wijk aan Zee which I try to get to whenever work allows me to & the Hotel Mare Sanat is always the first hotel that I look up for my accommodation. I hope to return there again next year.

Warm welcome received and breakfast was good, however our 'family apartment' turned out to be little more than a cramped converted garage. Our two young children slept in the the small dark twin bedroom whilst we suffered the sofa bed in the living room/kitchen/dining room. The bed when set up was right next to the door (glass) leading onto a busy seaside road. It was the worst sleep we have ever had. The thin foam mattress was not even dressed with a sheet! The door leading directly onto the street was dangerous to leave open for our children and offered no privacy. But left closed, the room was dark and offered no ventilation for the bathroom so it was not pleasant! We were very disappointed and checked out early as a result. Such a pity as the location was great and I'm sure would be fine for a couple.

We spent here a few days in appartment consist of living room with small kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.Apartment has got side entrance from the street which is quite noisy,a lot of cars driving towards the beach, and on the opposite side there is church with bells ringing every hour also during the night.Bathroom is connected with living room by steep stairs and is situated floor below.Interior look of apartment just so so...sofa and bed need replacement with new ones.Breakfast is served in main building so you need to go outside.Breakfast buffet every day the same(cheese.ham.jam,fruits,yoghurt,milk,orange juice and eggs).Advantages:just a short walk to the beautiful wide sandy beach and city center, also close to Amsterdam,Alkmaar,Keukenhoff(the best attraction),Zaanse Schans;very nice and helpful owners, good WiFi,parking place.

Hotel mare sanat is a fab little hotel a minutes walk from the sea, tucked just away from the small town centre. The hotel Is well run, good value, clean and in a homely environment. The back rooms has a balcony overlooking the church. The town reminded me of a film set with its surreal atmosphere. Really enjoyed my experience in this quaint little hotel.

We enjoyed very much our stay at Mare Sanat. The hotel is romantic and cozy, the hotel owner very lovely and caring. We had a very large room and a comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good, we didn’t miss a thing. Parking lots in front of the hotel were convenient.

The only downside was that the shower / bathroom was smelly. The toilet was behind a separate door – oddly, the toilet did not smell but the shower did. The cleaning staff was very friendly and tried to get rid of the smell, but this didn’t help a lot.

Nevertheless we would surely return to Mare Sanat!
