Detailed Reviews
The quality of food and excellent presentation never ceased to amaze me! The staff were really friendly and efficient, rooms were clean and comfortable. I did miss having a toilet en suite though. The hotel is very well located, close to the beach, shops and public transport. I was prepared to travel back from my next destination just to have the delicious salmon & poached egg breakfast, with yoghurt & fruit and a croissant!! Every meal was delicious, portions are most generous and the staff go out of their way to make the dining experience a really good one. All in all a great family hotel where young and old alike clearly had fun. Thank you!

Sonnevanck brings something else, which often lacks in the usual hotels. Music, play the piano or the guitars, a free read of various newspapers, a cozy atmosphere, a friendly service attitude of the employees, dogs are allowed, even in the rooms, reasonable prices for a variety of menu choices. And 100 mtrs from the beach.

Have stayed here three times in the past four years and the hotel looks scruffier by the year. The bar/restaurant area is fine but the hotel is now on a par with a basic hostel in my opinion. Shared toilets and showers - although some rooms do have showers but no toilet. Unfortunately our room was booked for us and we got the cheap option. Tea making facilities in the room were poor.....broken lid on kettle, paper cups, not enough milk. Basic requirements!
Very tired and dated decor. Very loud wallpaper in the rooms.....very 1970's. Everything about the hotel needs dragging into the 21st century. Nice location to the beach is about all it has going for it.

We visited here last weekend while staying at a hotel just round the corner.
Five of us went here because it looked very busy from the outside and we thought we might find something decent to eat. We were located a table near the window and the waitress provided English menus, which was a great start.
Four of us ordered soup. The Tomato soup was very red in colour and the mustard soup had a strong taste of wholegrain mustard with spring onions. Three of us then had steaks while the other two, who are both vegetarians, had a Paparadelle salad and a fondue with vegetables.
The fondue was enormous and too much for one person on their own and the salad was equally huge. The steaks very thick and chunky and settled in the middle of the plate. They came with vegetables and fries or boiled potatoes, the customer get to choose. We thought the steaks were terrific and you could cut through them with no effort at all.
Afterwards we decided to have desserts as well. One of us had scoops of ice cream with wafers, three of us had a Dame Blanche ice cream which again was huge and the other had a Creme Brulee which also came with a scoop of ice cream. We had a few drinks and paid about £30 a head for the lot. Absolutely lovely food. Would definitely eat here again if we were in the area. The meal was leisurely and the service was not too quick. We stayed here for about 3 hours and loved the whole evening.

Very cozy address and despite the crowds on Saturday evenings, a very nice place to dine. Extensive menu, very friendly and attentive service. We only regretted that the cooking method of our steak could not be adjusted... they only had one cooking method.
