Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although it feels very remote once you are there, it was easy to find and get to. It was great to be off the grid for a few days to really enjoy this unique place. The log cabin and verandah are very spacious and feel quite luxurious. It is in a beautiful setting and has a gorgeous walk up a wooded track covered in mosses.

What a great setting - nothing around but sheep, forest, creek and sky. So peaceful and relaxing. And this very comfortable and well equipped log cabin has quality touches throughout that made our three night stay a lovely experience. Thanks Steve for the day hunting.

My partner and I wanted a place we could be alone - not to far away from fishing where we could do abit of hunting - and practice our shooting ON the property - blardy puuuurfect for that!

All you need to remember is some heavy duty sandfly repellant - we had some and we were fine!!

Thanks again and it was great to meet you - we'll definately come back - especially so Dave can bring out his 50 Calibre :)

We found the place easy enough but were not aware that you needed a four wheel drive to access the cabin, . luckily we had our big vehicle with us otherwise we would have had to have transferred all of our stuff into Steve's vehicle to transport it across the ford. There is access via a swing bridge but would be a hard hike with all your gear. We are in our 70s
The cabin itself was delightful and the setting is gorgeous. Ideal for 2 people. We did have limited telephone reception.
The cabin itself has great potential but unfortunately the lack of detail finesse let it down. None of the pot lids had a good seal, the kitchen utensils were cheap plastic. The fireplace was lovely , however, there was no paper or kindling left to light the fire with, we did find some matches in a drawer. The firewood was green and almost impossible to keep a flame going. we did venture into another paddock and found some slightly drier wood. This was disappointing as previous reviews have made the same comment over several years.
The shower was great and we had plenty of hot water.
The DVD selection was ok but the TV screen is so small that you have to get up to read any comments on the screen
Would we go again, probably not at that price

Far from anywhere, which will suit some people, probably hunters and fishermen.
It rained hard for 24 hours straight during our two-night stay which put a damper on things, especially since we needed to walk 300 meters from our car to the cabin and back when we wanted to go out. This usually left us with wet shoes, etc. The owners really need to clarify in their description that one needs a four wheel drive to directly access the cabin.
The wood burner was nice on a cold rainy night and day, but the owners need to provide enough kindling and some paper to give guests a fighting chance to get the fire going. Other stuff? Shampoo would be nice at a $160 a night! Nespresso machine provided, but coffee capsule were far past use-by date. Same for tea. No milk.

We live locally and went to visit close family staying here for a week. We met Tracey who seemed nice enough who explained it was unlikely we’d see her husband Steve Garner as he doesn’t like visitors. The next day we arrived early afternoon and the gate was chained locked. He was standing in the distance watching us and eventually came over and immediately started swearing at us, wouldn’t open the gate and told us to f**k off, several times! I have never been spoken to like that and came away shaken and upset. Our relatives had to come over to ours to visit for the duration of their stay. Every day they had to check they could get out and in the gate again and didn’t feel they could say anything to them in case they were thrown out with nowhere to stay during this busy holiday season. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Below is the sign at the entrance which pretty much says it all.

We arrived in the pouring rain on Good Friday to find out that the cabin was on the other side of a river crossing so a 4WD vehicle was essential. The only other option was a 500 metre walk, in the rain, carrying all our luggage. Then when we got to the cabin there were no instructions explaining that in order to have any hot water we would have to light the fire and wait several hours. We eventually figured this out and set about lighting a fire. Except there was no firewood. So we went and cut our own wood and kindling, in the rain. Then we discovered there was no paper and an empty box of matches which made lighting a fire quite difficult. Given that the owners had only hours earlier left for Cambodia, I can't understand why they couldn't at the very least have left us some firewood, paper and matches, or better still lit a fire for us so that when we arrived wet from carrying our luggage in the rain, we could've had some hot water and a warm cabin.
Also, given that it was Good Friday and no shops were open, and the nearest was a 35 minute drive away, it would've been nice if they could've left some milk in the fridge but there was nothing.
We were also told that to ensure we had clean and running water each day, we would have to clean out the filter out the back of the property every morning. This is apparently not a service they provide.
The kitchen utensils and pans etc. are very cheap and useless and no BBQ tools are provided for the absolutely filthy BBQ that was provided. However, there was a full gas bottle. There was also a great selection of DVDs that cater for all.
The cabin and location is quite pleasant but it could be so much better if the owners put a small amount of thought into their guests. Either that, or don't charge motel rates for DOC hut facilities. I appreciate that they want to make hay while the sun shines as they close over winter, but they need to communicate the reality of the accommodation adequately. They've even increased their rates since we booked. Regardless of that we will not be returning.

We are devastated to hear such bad remarks as we have had only 1 previous negative in 15 years. When it rains here we can understand that the experience is not as goo d as when it is sunny as we are so remote. But this weather was not only rainy it was a deluge and so bad that we had a flooded river and the river had wiped our hydro electricity out 3 days prior and we had only managed to get up the river to fix it as it was so flooded and raging. Living off the grid is not easy and when your electricity and water rely on mother nature it can get very tricky. Without sunshine the solar cant heat the water in the log cabin nor in our own house on the property. I believe Dave offered to chop some firewood for you and brought over paper matches (which we apologise that we had not replaced in the cabin). Had we known the time you were arriving and that you were bringing a baby with you, Judy and Dave would have lit the fire in preparation for your arrival. With the river flooding this also effects the water to the cabin and our house. The river dirties up and so the filter needs cleaning regularly. This is something we always do for our guests if needed and only occurs in the biggest of downpours and floods - so not often. But we also prepare each guest that if the filter needs a clean in between times, how to do it if you want to yourself. I believe that Judy said she would be over to clean the filter in the mornings and in the evenings. Our website does let everyone know that the cabin is on the other side of the river and we take all luggage and guests over in our 4WD to save the walk, but the river was flooded and we didn't feel that Dave should risk taking the 4WD over as he did not know where the BIG rocks were in the crossing. Had we been there we "may" have taken it over if we felt it was safe enough. We were disappointed with you saying our beautiful log cabin is a DOC hut! I haven't been in a DOC hut with an ensuite, queen bed, sofa bed, refrigerator, gas hob etc... and we have put our rates up by $10 a night, the first increase in 15 years. Judy did advise that the BBQ was in need of a clean and we do apologise most sincerely for not doing this. We are planning to replace this BBQ with a bigger and better one for next season as well as replace the frypan. We appreciate all feedback both positive and negative as it gives us an opportunity to improve and we thank you for yours.

Since discovering this haven 4 years ago after an awesome tramp up Mt Owen we always stay here when visiting the top of the south island. The location is perfect if you love exploring the outdoors or just want to get away and relax. There is superb walking nearby in Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes national parks, and so many beautiful rivers nearby for fly fishing. The drives to the west coast or Blenheim are very scenic, with everything from rafting to wineries to visit. We have stayed more than 4 times across summer, spring and most recently in autumn when the colours were just beautiful. Our little girl loves the swing bridge across the creek and visiting the sheep and the many ducks. Feels just like your own private little bit of New Zealand as you savour a peaceful coffee on the deck in the morning and spot native birds. The evening sky is magnificent on a cloudless night after a bbq on the deck. The cabin is beautifully crafted and appointed, warm with the log fire even on the coldest wet evenings. The owners have achieved the perfect balance as helpful hosts, lovely to talk to if you need them but otherwise leaving you in peace. They can arrange or advise on the best fishing and hunting trips in the area. Highly recommended, but really we don't want to share this secret!

A+ relaxation! Loved everything about Tripple Tui from the quite tranquil location, Log cabin and cosy fire, also the amazing guided fly fishing day with Steve, chasing trophy sized trout on un tapped stream pools. Most highly reccommend for anyone looking to avoid the hussle and bussle of city life and experience the real quality of NZ.

I booked a stay at Triple Tui, it's out in the country about an hours drive from our home in Nelson. I didn't tell my wife where we were going, it was her birthday surprise but I had no idea about what to expect when we got there. Tracey and Steve welcomed us with big smiles and took us to our cabin, like a mini adventure in itself, a short walk along the river bank and over a swing bridge. Some cabin, more like a house really,an authentic log cabin with a cosy wood fire, beautiful inside and out. The only sounds out there are from the birds in the bush and the stream. Excellent breakfast too. We both highly recommend this excellent accommodation and the great hospitality that goes with it.
