RR Club Amarilis Praia da Rocha Portugal

Holiday date 24th December 2023 to 7th January 2024.

We stayed in room 1001, which is a one bedroom apartment overlooking the pool.
The apartment is a little dated and needs some maintenance but it was very big and adequate for us two.

The housekeeping staff were lovely. They swept and mopped every day. They emptied the bins daily and they provided plenty of toilet rolls, shower gel and hand washing soap. The hairdryer in the bathroom is powerful. The bedsheets were changed every 4 days and the towels every 2 days, acceptable to us and the beds were comfortable. Extra blankets and pillows are in the wardrobe.

As it was a winter holiday it was pretty chilly in the evenings so we used the heating unit above the patio door which warmed the room up nicely. There was also an oil filled radiator in the bedroom.

The kitchen was perfectly useable, enough pots and pans to make a simple meal. Tea towels are provided. I can’t believe that some people expect a hotel to provide them with washing up liquid, of course there isn’t any, go to the shop and buy some or
take a small bottle with you.

The breakfast was much better than we were expecting. We were told that during the winter months we would only get a Continental type breakfast, which is usually bread to toast and bread rolls, jams, croissants, meats, cheese, cereals, fruit, yogurt, honey,
tea, coffee and fruit juices. There’s nothing wrong with that.

We were very surprised to find that we got all the items listed above plus bacon, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms. What more could anyone want. It was all cooked really nicely and was kept warm.

The lovely lady who cleared the tables was so cheerful every single morning. She greeted us with a smile every day.

The hotel Wi-Fi was hit and miss. We often had to go down to the reception area to get a signal. It might be because we were on a high floor? Who knows.

The hotel is in a good position, close to the beautiful beach, lots of restaurants and shops. There’s also a bus stop at the side of the hotel.

We would happily stay in Club Amarilis if we were to go to Praia da Rocha in the future.

really dont know where to start, firstly only reviews up to june 2024 ??
are people complaining the same hotel ??
Just back from this hotel FOOD how on earth can you complain about the food we had King prawns, Lamb, and beef on many nights Steak , sardines chicken on BBQ night ,best BBQ i've ever had on AI. Breakfast equal to any UK breakfast even proper sausages , just dont get it.... its a three star Hotel nothing else if you want 5 star pay for it this hotel was one of the cheapest i've had this year. Pool brillant, snack door burgers were lovely, even got crisps never had this on AI ... Only thing i will agree on is the Bar suitation, after 7pm till 9.30 pm drinks only available in resturant and only 20 stools and five tables in resturant . this needs to be rectified as soon as possible as many people were not happy bascially if you havent got one of the bar stools you could go to reception a nice little area to have your drinks. But i suspect in main season these seats would be taken up rapidly. Which leaves you only option is to go to the pool bar even its in darkness till it opens again 9.30pm. what makes thing worse is the pool bar is a long walk from the resturant. mMy view on this is to deter people drinking ie: saving revenue
I have a suggestion to this hotel outside of the resurant is the BBQ Hut and a lovely garden. This hotel should make a covered Drinking area, wihtin this garden (as far as i could see nobdy ventures into it so a complete waste of space.) This would enhance this hotel and stop people complaining . It makes sense.
I always use a stainless steel insulated mug which holds a pint only when poolside but this hotel won't pour beer into it they said they are not allowed too. so i order two from plastic mugs and then pour into my mug. reason why havent a clue save their plastic beakers . BUT
We are planning to come back in 2026 as already booked holidays for 2025, as the drinking problem is a holding me back. As for the reason the pool bar closes is staff are required in the retuarant but seeing its usual only run by one person does'nt seem to be a significant cost just a ruse from the company to deter people staying at the hotel to have a drink as most go to the strip after dinner. On the subject of drink i cannot believe the beer is served in 20CL glasses (resturant) Never ever had a beer in such a small glass. Even two is not even a pint ?? Not really bothered about enteratainment in hotels but this hotel is not child friendly so if you have kids avoid as they will be bored ........ Overall staff are very friendly can't say that about the resturant manager, attiude is apalling, unless your a female.

We just returned from a week long all inclusive stay at this hotel. The staff were on the whole very welcoming and worked hard to make everyone comfortable. The apartment was basic but very clean, tidy and spacious and we found the meal choices were surprisingly good given the price we paid with waiting staff as always nearby to provide help and generally tidy up after each guest.
Apart from the vey small lifts ( I believe the hotel was a converted block of apartments) the main criticisms I would have is regarding the gym which although quite well equipped, seems to pack in more equipment than floor space. Also there is an additional charge of €5 for a two hour gym session ( although you could pay for a card in advance which would effectively allow a reduction for more than five visits). Bring your own gym towel and water as there is also an additional cost for these. As mentioned , the gym itself is quite well equipped but regular gym users will note some of the weights machines are not as well maintained as others. As with the rest of the hotel, the gym staff were polite and helpful and were it not for the fact that the gym was a big selling point for me , I would have definitely given this four stars as the all inclusive option in every other aspect was very good and reasonably priced for a weeks holiday in a beautifully scenic part of Portugal minutes away from the beach.

Let's start with the amazing and attentive reception staff who went above and beyond to accommodate our requirements. We arrived early and could check in straight away to our room. Late checkout was also confirmed at no additional charge, which was great as we had a night flight. Chocolates from the hotel management to all guests on valentines day , what a lovely gesture. Great location, knowledgeable and attentive staff with fantastic customer service. All rooms were clean and spacious and with the facilities and amenities to prepare and cook food if wanted. The bedrooms again were clean and the beds definitely made for a good night sleep. The bathroom was well equipped , the shower had great pressure and the added bonus of a bath, meant having a pleasurable soak after a long day.
The only minor issue was the hot water usage , be aware that the hot water tank will only have enough hot water for 2 persons and if you are more than 2 persons then the wait to refill the tank can take sometime. The room has an in room safe which is charged at €15 per week. The kitchen has a 4 ring hob , toaster, fridge freezer, microwave ,pans and utensils.
The onsite fully equipped gym , swimming pool, sauna facilities are at an extra cost and these facilities are open and available to non hotel guests. The gym is very busy even during the low season and the bar/restaurant was closed from late morning until.next day breakfast time.
Good location but for those less mobile try Club Amarilis sister hotel which is located in the main street facing the beach. To access the beach there are many step walkways leading down from the main street to the beach below and on average you would have to navigate 80 -100 steps up and down (good exercise)
A 3 star hotel with a 5 star heart

Visited Club Amarillis for a week over the New Year with the family. Lovely hotel in a great location. 2 mins to the nearest supermarket & less than 5 mins walk to the start of the ‘strip’ where the restaurants & bars begin.
Rooms cleaned/towels changed every day. Outside pool very cold, but that’s standard in Portugal, especially at this time of the year. There’s a gym/indoor pool (heated) in the hotel, €10 per adult & €5 per child for 2 hours use. Didn’t eat in the hotel so can’t comment.
The electrics in the apartment can get overloaded causing them to trip, even by using 2 rings on the hob, or the kettle along with the heater, so have a look for the reset button when you arrive cause there’s a fair chance you’ll need it!
All in all, a great hotel for the price we paid. Probably won’t return to the resort of Praia da Rocha as it’s a bit rough around the edges with some rude unfriendly locals, but that’s not the hotels fault. We spent most of our time in Alvor & Lagos because of this.
If you want to go to Praia da Rocha, certainly give this place a go

This hotel is not as advertised.
We stayed in room 101, 1st floor.

Our room was dated, lights flickering, blocked shower, no kitchen plug, fridge didn't work. Overall very grotty and dull.

We were all inclusive, the photos advertised are so false. The food was awful, very little selection. Some of the dishes were cold. Kids had one option, mostly foods kids won't eat.

Staff were lovely but hovered over you waiting for your plate.
I took 2 small buns and 2 slices of ham for my daughter to eat as she is autistic and won't eat with us. This was frown upon.

There was so entertainment, no kids club, no life guard, no staff keeping pool area clean. Lunch snacks we're awful, no slushy for kids, ice lollies had to be paid for.

The pool was OK, my daughter picked up over 10 tiles from the bottom of the pool.

Tiles around the pool are broken and loose. Sun loungers are grotty and quite a few broken.

Play area consists of a small slide and a rocking seat.

Staff are lovely, hotel is a great location. This hotel is mainly used by owners of the apartments. Having spoken to a few of them they have said the hotel just doesn't make any effort anymore and it's gone downhill.

I booked this for me and my girls as we have had such a hard year and I was expecting so much more for what I paid.

I wouldn't return here.

I booked my visit to Praia Da Rocha on a whim (booked it on the Friday to leave on the Sunday), wanted 3 days away all inclusive to just relax. Did my research and Club Amarilis seemed best value for money so booked.

Really glad I did. Very warm welcome when I arrived and the room was ready early. My room, 602, was very spacious and clean, I felt very comfortable. I’m a very light sleeper but I slept like a log during the few nights I stayed.

I went as a solo traveller, as I like to do one holiday or short trip a year on my own to really relax. It is easy to feel uncomfortable at some European resorts as a lone traveller, but here it was great. Smaller table settings in the restaurant meant I didn’t feel like a pain sitting on my own on a table for 4, which I’ve had at previous resorts! Overall the resort and surrounding area (which I was familiar with, to be fair) felt very safe as a lone female traveller.

The all inclusive offering was fairly good I thought. As others have said, it’s limited but I always found something I enjoyed. If you have kids who are picky, they will still find something as there’s always chips, broccoli or carrots, bread etc. The breakfast was particularly good with pastries, yoghurts, eggs, sausages, hash browns etc. I always left each meal having had at least 2 servings and feeling content.

Sun beds, I know I didn’t visit during peak season but it was still very hot and the hotel was busy, but I didn’t struggle to get a sunbed. The pool was very cold but I didn’t mind that as I only go into the pool to cool off from sunbathing. The kids playing also didn’t seem to mind that it was cold!

The pool bar was very good, drinks were fast and the snacks offered between meals looked nice, though I didn’t have any as I was always full up from the buffet meals.

Location is good, be aware if you have mobility issues as there is a hill to get from the hotel to the beach which might be an issue to an older or less able individual, so jump on Google maps street view first to have a look if this might apply to you.

The staff were all very friendly, on my last day I checked out at 11am but my flight wasn’t until the evening. They had no issues with me keeping my all inclusive wristband to spend the day at the pool, and also gave me vouchers to ensure I could still have the all inclusive lunch before I left which was really nice of them, as some resorts can be strict on this. It meant I left the resort relaxed and ready for my flight home.

Can’t think of anything else to add other than I enjoyed my stay and would return again!

We were due to stay at this hotel for a week, but on arriving knew we had made a mistake. Website pictures make.this hotel look alot better than it actually is.

The hotel is dated and feels more like residential flats, infact we saw people coming and going with dogs.. Some balconies had for sale signs on as if they were selling them off.

Corridor and lifts looked like they hadn't been updated since the 1950's.

On arriving we were shown to the restaurant were there was a brief salad bar along with 1 meat 1.fish and a pasta dish which were all cold. Evening meal was the same. Breakfast the next morning was also cold, restaurant manager offered to make fresh food for our party but even that was cold. He also insisted it was due to another member of staff switching the hotplates off therefore allowing the food to go cold.
After speaking to our jet2 rep and requesting a move to another hotel, the manager spoke to our party insisting that once we had chosen our food then they could reheat it. She wasn't interested in the fact that the food was cold to start with and walked away to speak to other clients and wasn't bother about resolving the issue.
The food was indescribable, infact my own pets eat better food than was on offer to us.

Soft drinks were served in plastic cups amd only half pint of beer, which you had to order yourself from the bar, no waiter service here. You could purchase a full pint but this wasn't included in the all inclusive.

The rooms themselves looked OK at first sight, but the wardrobes were dusty, lights were hanging loose and wiring exposed. Wire mesh placed around the balcony on the 12th floor.

After speaking to our jet2 rep we were moved to a different hotel within 24hours.

All I can say is if you like cold inedible food, rude staff, dated hotel then this is the hotel for you, if not then don't bother stay well clear.

We will definitely never book to go there again

Hotel made me have 2 breakdowns due to the dirtiness of the rooms. There were stains up the walls and there was dirt on the tables and the rooms were very dated. The fact you can’t drink round the pool on the sun loungers is a joke and a scam to try and make guests drink less. The pool bar closes at 7 and the only other bar is in the restaurant which has two tables.

I had to eat out every day due to the food being awful and even in the kids section there wasn’t any chicken nuggets or anything like that. There was 3 cocktails on the all inclusive menu as you had to pay for the rest. The smell of the hotel and towels is musty and makes you want to throw up. The maids had touched my friends stuff and sprayed her expensive perfume.

The only good thing about this hotel is the staff had helped us out and got us a room with a double bed instead of two singles and it is also 5 minutes away from the strip. Definitely will not be returning because you could not pay me to stay in this rig up ever again, Paid so much money for the all inclusive and i haven’t even ate a single thing and drank way less due to the fact you can only drink in the shade at the pool bar.

Stayed at this hotel for what was supposed to be a weeks holiday however, we had to move for to various issues two days in to our stay.

Hotel is very dated as are the rooms. They are spacious and liveable but avoid using the wardrobes unless you like dusty clothes.

Dining area has very limited options with 1 fish and 1 meat dish accompanied with pasta and salad. Food was always cold and inedible. Staff offered to bring our party a fresh breakfast straight from the ‘kitchen’ however, upon receiving this the scrambled egg was cold and bacon too.

Manager was unwilling to help or resolve the issues we had and everyone seemed to pass the blame to other departments.

Rooms had various problems wrong. Cupboard doors hanging off, light fittings half attached to ceiling so had
potential to fall off. Electrical cables exposed on socket.

All inclusive is very limited. Soft drinks are always served in paper cup regardless of whether you are inside or out. Lagers are limited to half pints only. As you have to pay for full pints.

Hotel is no where near 3 stars and is more suited to sept catering or residents wanting to buy an apartment here.

Avoid this ‘hotel’ and look elsewhere.
