We were so surprised when we turned up at this guesthouse without any prior booking, the hosts were unbelievably friendly, coffee, cookies and hugs all round, and the morning after as well! The room was spacious with unlimited water, it’s noisy if you’re on staying in one of the front rooms as the road outside is actually quite busy. The WiFi was strong enough and the shower warm. Would definitely recommend especially for travellers like ourselves who were staying here as a stopover for our final destination in Hoi An.

Hosts are very firendly, with a genuine desire to make you feel welcome. The river view is pleasant. The streetscape is interesting and the street food is plentiful. Hosts were very helpful with communication beforehand and arrangements for the bus to Sa Ky for the ferry terminal.

I stayed at the Thanh Lich Guesthouse for one night in August 2023 when I visited Quang Ngai mainly to see the Son My Memorial. I chose the guesthouse based off of the many reviews praising the kindness and hospitality of the family that runs the guesthouse, and those reviews were absolutely correct. From the moment I arrived, I was treated like family, receiving a big hug from the father. As other reviews have mentioned, the couple doesn't speak English (their daughter can help in English if she's around), but they went out of their way to accommodate me and make me feel welcome, even repairing an air conditioner on the spot that wasn't working properly. Translation apps are more than enough to communicate together. With the father's help, I got a taxi to the Son My Memorial (310k round trip off the meter, not negotiated) as well as a taxi to the bus station when I checked out. If there's anything you need, the owners will definitely help you!

Quang Ngai city itself doesn't really have too much to offer, so if you're just a visitor like me passing through for a day or so, it doesn't really make sense to stay in the heart of the city. The Thanh Lich Guesthouse is a little outside of the main city, just across the river, and if you're really only there to head to the Son My Memorial or further to the beach area, the guesthouse is right by the road leading there. It has great river views from the back rooms, and I liked the rustic feeling of the property. While the guesthouse is located on a normal, working-class street not really aimed at tourists, it has everything you'd need--a coffee shop across the street, a WinMart convenience store about 100 meters to the left, and plenty of rice, porridge, and pho restaurants up and down the block. I loved the local and "authentic" ambiance of the area.

Anyways, I can't imagine I'd ever find myself in Quang Ngai again, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this guesthouse again. Luckily, the father and I took some cool selfies together after I checked out, so I'll always have great memories of my short yet happy stay!

Well above expectations and we were treated like family.

The minute you get here you will have the best greeting. Smiling hosts, free cookies and water.

Great place to stop with motorbikes, motorbikes are very secure and inside here.

The hosts went above and beyond to help us after we were scammed by a mechanic 10km's away and ensured the bike was fixed properly. They made us laugh constantly and cheered us up after a bad day within minutes!

The hotel is clean, big beds and great views of the river.

Free coffee in the morning. Binh Mi purchased cheaply from stall outside the hotel for breakfast.

There is a brochure in English for local sights and where to eat locally. Although they speak little English this is NO problem. Sign language and body language makes it easy to communicate. For us this adds to the experience of travelling and seeing different culture. We aren't travelling to be back in England!!!

Their daughter speaks excellent English on the telephone if you do get stuck. (We spoke to her to explain where the scamming mechanic was)

Thankyou to the family for everything you have done for us. Your generosity will never be forgotten.

I would stay here again and again ☺

Planned to stay a few days but ended up staying for 2 weeks. This family owned and run guest house is so warmed and welcoming, they greeted every guest with open arms and their genuine warmth can be felt even though they could not speak any English. They took care and helped just about anyone who needed help or were in any kind of problem from fixing up to showing guests where they can fix their broken down bikes to help the injured from their bike falls. I really cannot express what kind hearted these hosts are. If you traveling through please try and stop by this little place and experience the “real Vietnam “ and their wonderful hospitality. Their place is very clean, comfortable and doesn’t cost the earth, also plenty of delicious food stalls nearby for everyone to try. Highly recommended. Miss you guys so much, thank you for looking after me so well. Marcel from Australia...I’ll be back soon.

I very highly recommend Thanh Lich Guesthouse. I felt very well attended to from soon after I booked. For example, I received instructions to the guesthouse, unsolicited, shortly after booking, which later helped me orient myself on the taxi ride from the train station to the guesthouse. Given many stories I have heard about taxi scams in Vietnam, this helped to set my mind at ease. When I asked about means by which I could get to the guesthouse and Son My Memorial Park and approximate costs, I received very timely, clear, and useful advice, also setting my mind at ease.

I arrived at the guesthouse late at night, around 11pm. When I arrived, one of my gracious hosts was outside greeting me as I exited the taxi. I do not speak Vietnamese, and she did not speak English, but non-verbal communication between the two of us seemed to work very well. She pointed to something written asking for my passport and then immediately took me to my room to show me how everything worked, the fan, air-conditioner, shower, etc. All appliances worked well, and the room was clean, and aesthetically pleasing. I had a view of the river, as well. Water, coffee, and cookies were available in the room for free. I have found during my travels in Vietnam that drinking water, cold water in which to shower/bathe, and air-conditioning have been my three best friends, so I very much appreciated being given drinking water, as I had been primarily buying it to that point. My host checked my understanding and satisfaction (I think) by making a thumbs up, to which I replied in kind. In the morning, I emailed who I believe is the daughter who understands English to ask her to help me book a taxi with the taxi driver I had the night before (he had given me his card) to Son My Memorial Park and then to the train station. In the time it took me to take a shower, my ride was booked. My check out also went smoothly in that more pointing to written text was had. I was given a bottle of water and a hug and was sent on my way.

This is a family run business that I think should definitely be rewarded for the family’s hospitality. I truly felt welcome, not as though I was a business transaction. I am exploring the possibility of bringing students with whom I work in the United States to Vietnam, and if this comes to fruition, my plan will be for all of us to stay at Thanh Lich Guesthouse during our time in Quang Ngai.
