Te Popo Gardens & Accommodation is one of Taranaki's premier gardens. This large country garden of trees, offers seasonal colour and diversity in landscaping, and features a fine collection of exotic deciduous broad leaf and coniferous trees. The woodland gardens, shrub and perennial borders merge into the old growth forest hugging the 15-metre deep ravines enfolding the garden. The visitor experience includes fern gullies, waterfalls, ponds, a suspension bridge, forest trails, native birds, and carpets of bluebells. Self-contained quality accommodation both comfortable and beautiful, enhances this special place we call home.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved our couple of nights spent up in the hills away from the crowds. The setting is in 34 acres of beautiful native gardens with some wonderful animal sculptures. Attention to detail was what sets this accomodation apart from others. From the welcome pack to the offer on both nights of a cooked meal with other guests (wonderful home cooking and great value for money) We loved the quirkiness of the place, the chance to wander around the gardens and especially going out after dark to see a bank full of magical glow worms tucked away down by a stream. The breakfast basket was awesome! Thank you for your warm welcome.

What a great stay! This place is a labor of love for the owners. They are friendly, and a pleasure to chat with. And they are part of what makes this place so special.
Not only do you get to stay at a very inviting place but you also have a sculpture garden to explore on the premises. Rooms were very clean, and well equipped. The b&b is only about 10-15 mins from town.

Very relaxing accommodation set in a garden of mixed and native flowers, trees and shribs. What is unique is the range and diversity of sculptures of Afirican Wildlife, most life size as well. The rooms were reaxing as there was space to spread out in and enjoy. Although we had a lot of rain we could still pop out to the gardens in between showers to enjoy.

We booked 3 rooms for our 2 night stay, to attend the Off-road Nationals 1st round. So we had a large trailer with race car and all our gear, after meandering up and down the country lanes, getting a little worried about how far from town and how remote it was getting we arrived at the most amazing setting of Te Popo gardens, we were made to feel very welcome, and having such a large load was no problem. Our rooms were massive and well equipped. Our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful. Thanks for a most unexpected delight. We loved this place .

The perfect get away retreat. Idyllic setting surrounded by beautiful gardens, peace, quiet, tranquil walks, no phones ringing, no noisy neighbours, great for peace and quiet, and long lazy walks. The hosts are welcoming and friendly, the food and atmosphere wonderful, highly recommended.

Te Popo was my base camp for my first visit to NZ. Couldn't have asked for better. Close enough to New Plymouth for shopping. New owners, Les and Amanda Heynies' enthusiasm for life is contagious. And Amanda's cooking is to die for. Loved the African-themed renovated rooms, specifically the Tree Tops Honeymoon suite. Really appreciated the new natural wood decks and hand railings that Les built on the more advanced walking trails. This is a place of rest - for the bird watcher, the gardener, the artist looking for inspiration or just the tired soul.

Te Popo Gardens is a treat. Hosts very obliging and friendly. Accommodation commodious and comfortable. Gardens a delight. The dogs make good tour guides. A reasonable distance from Stratford and Mt Egmont. We extended our stay by one night because of a big storm and were glad we did. Unfortunately the area lost power for 24 hours but with the help of our hosts, a slow combustion heater, rainwater tanks and a gas barbecue, we coped!

We have been to the gardens of Te Popo a few times and on our last visit we were told by Les and Amanda about the BBQ and live music night..so we booked to go and also stay overnight.
Wow what a night - ok so I am not a huge fan of country and western but the music was good.....the food was also very tasty and plentiful, company was awesome. Amanda our host suggested we join another couple which we did and it was fun. It is BYO drink....which we had forgotten so had to tootle off to supermarket to get some.... We stayed in the Elephant room, lovely large room with log burner, heater and electric blankets,....bathroom was spacious too and clean and tidy....everything you needed and more was there. Amanda and Les our hosts and owners were absolutely awesome, friendly, jokey, and Les can sing and play a guitar......would we go back.....Hell yes.

I was on our yearly road trip with 3 great friends of mine & we ended up late one night in Taranaki .Needing a place to stay, we looked up the google for a place to stay the night that could accommodate 4 over 50 men.

We rang Te-Popo gardens & Amanda & Les were able to accommodate us.

Arriving late (10.30pm) at Te-Popo Gardens we were greeted by both Amanda & Les & shown to our rooms where little treats were awaiting us all.

The rooms were all very well presented & very clean & tidy.

After a great nights sleep we looked around the beautiful native gardens .

Amanda & Les hospitality was perfect.

The following night we were over an hour away but decided to call Te-Popo Gardens & Accommodation to see if they could accommodate us all again.

Another great night was had with Amanda & Les at Te-popo Gardens & Accommodation.

I would highly recommend Te-Popo Gardens & Accommodation to anyone who enjoys our great outdoors comfortable accommodation & great hospitality.

Well done Amanda & Les.

Janine & I have just booked in for 2 night at Te-Popo Garden & Accommodation February 2021 & I know Janine will be totally blown away. We are both looking forward to our next stay.

Kindest regards

Janine & Richard Lloyd Christchurch New Zealand
