OMG what an amazing place for my birthday surprise. So the weather may have been a bit moist, who cares when you have such a beautiful calming place to warm by the fire and have a quiet drink. Dinner was faultless. Being vegetarian narrowed our options but the Vege Curry was simply sublime. Desert was a perfect finish to the meal leaving us satisfied and we'll nourished. We took an overnight stay package which included breakfast which we opted for Eggs Benedict, simple but again perfectly balanced and filling. Coffee and hot chocolate were made perfectly. All of the staff interaction was professional but relaxed and courteous. The room we had was comfortable, warm and the spa bath was a bonus surprise. Well done Pete an the team. Stratford Mountain House is an all round winner for accomodation and dining.…
We stayed for two nights on Labour Day weekend. It is situated on Mount Taranaki. Beautiful and peaceful environment. There are a few walking tracks nearby. Staff were kind and attentive. We stayed in the family room. Nice decor and the room was spacious. A spa bath was in the bathroom, so my little girl enjoyed her bubble bath. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Food was very delicious and well presented. We will come back to stay when we visit Taranaki next time.
We stayed for one night in late October 2021 and what an excellent stay it was and we're looking forward to coming back sometime early next year. We went for the dinner, bed and breakfast package. Nice room, very friendly and welcoming staff but we have to say that the "highlight" for us was the food - dinner was exceptionally good - good choices; great quality and presentation ("largish" portions) and great value. Breakfast was equally as good. Keep up the good work!
We stayed here for 2 nights, in peace and quiet, surrounded by amazing scenery. The rooms are so comfortable, warm and have everything you need. The manager, Peter & Alie are so accommodating, helpful and with great knowledge of the area. Dinners were a highlight, with great choices, great presentation and delicious food. Service was outstanding and we would highly recommend a stay here. Mt Taranaki even put on her best summer performance, so we were truly blessed. Thanks to all.
Stayed here for 4 nights from the 6th to the 10th of January at the beginning of our staycasion in NZ. What a wonderful place to stay, comfortable rooms, amazing hosts Peter & Aile, along with their great team of staff. The restaurant however is the jewel in the crown. The food is exceptional quality and presented as well as in any top class fine dining establishment. We have been fortunate to have visited some of the finest restaurants around the world and the food and the presentation here is as good as many of them. It was an awesome experience and we would highly recommend this place as the only place to stay when in the Taranaki area.
We were gifted a voucher for a stay at Stratford Mountain House, and what a gift it was. From the moment we arrived until the moment we (sadly) left, we were treated like royalty. Our room was excellent, and the small problem with the toilet cistern was quickly dealt with. Peter, Alie and their staff were efficient, friendly and courteous, without being overbearing. Dinner was an absolute treat, with both meals cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Likewise, breakfast this morning was generous, tasty and nourishing, with freshly house-baked bread an added treat. The weather wasn't great, but we enjoyed just sitting by a fire in the lounge reading and relaxing. We will most definitely return!
Well, this Hotel, located at the bottom of Mount Taranaki and within the Egmont National Park is something special. You get quietness, loneliness of some kind and the possibility to really come to a rest. Waking up seeing the Mountain in the sunlight is a view to remember. Don't forget to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. You won't regret it. Highly recommended
We travelled as 2 couples taking advantage of the Mountain House special offer of 2 course dinner, accommodation and breakfast the following morning for $325 per couple. The unit we stayed in was immaculately presented, and even at the end of winter, was warm and inviting....exactly like the welcome we were given when we checked in. The meals are large and of a very high standard, so I would recommend sharing a starter and likewise a dessert as coupled with a main course this was more than sufficient. They have a decent wine/beverage selection in their lounge/bar/restaurant which has a delightful ambience with a big open fire. While Manager/operator Rod and his wife were away this particular weekend, it was fantastic to see how well the lodge operated in their absence. 10 out of 10 team!!…
We were at the Mountain House celebrating a birthday when news of a family member had just been critically injured in a car crash some 300kms away came through. Lynne and the staff could not have been kinder. What had been a fabulous evening suddenly turned into a nightmare. A glass of port was offered and in the morning those who had not travelled during the night to the hospital were on leaving given complementary coffees which were gratefully recieved. The night was pretty much devoid of any quality of sleep but having a beautiful room and comfortable bed certainly helped. The spa bath looked inviting but that will have to wait for another time. The meals served to all 13 of us were superb! We will be repeat guests.
Staff are very lovely, friendly and attentive. The meals are fine but both meats at dinner missed the mark, steak way under & fat not rendered & pork belly way to over cooked and tough. The restaurant has a nice ambiance to it. Restaurant doors do not open until 9am if you are staying the night and having breakfast the next day. The rooms are adequate although lacking some essential items but the spa bath a bonus. Tiles on the bathroom floor very cold in winter and the room took some time to warm up with heater on full. Overall a pleasant stay.
