Lovely modern units with a heat pump and their own private patio. Spotlessly clean. May Chang products in the bathroom. Over the road there is a pub that serves meals, a Thai restaurant, fish and chip shop and a bakery with all day breakfasts. We didn't have our dog, but it's dog friendly. We will certainly return.

Stayed here over new years. Got a two bedroom apartment with family and kids. This motel is pet friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay here. The rooms were big and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beds comfortable. Can't say or find anything negative to report on this place. Would definitely consider staying here again when the need arises in future.

We have stayed at Clive a few times and will definitely stay there each time we visit the area.

Good sized rooms, very clean. When we visit we book in advance so that we can get a room that has a grassed area out the back which is convenient as we always travel with our Maltese.

Provided you have a house trained, well-behaved pet, they are more than happy to accommodate you.

Meals are available across the road at the pub, or there is a family-style restaurant on the adjacent corner. We, however, usually drive into town and go to Breakers - we love their Chicken Diane!

Arriving at 10pm, tired after a long drive following a day's work in Hamilton, I was given a frosty reception due to our lateness. (I had explained on booking that we would be late.) Then I was disconcerted to find that we were to be across the road behind the pub (many of the units are on a different site), and that there were foreign seasonal workers living long-term in the other units. Almost all available outside railings were covered in clothing put out to dry, many pairs of gumboots and other footwear covered the paving and pumpkins were scattered about ripening! Felt like a hostel not a motel. Our 2 night's of sleep was disturbed from 6am each day as shifts of workers were collected by vans, people talked loudly as they gathered and stomped down the metal stairway. Not what I had envisioned on booking at all.
The unit was clean enough although basic but smelt strongly of cigarette smoke. If there had been an option of accommodation anywhere else in the region (Mission weekend), I would not have remained there.
All this for $160 a night - rip off!

Clive is a small town just North of Napier and it is adjacent to a main road with a lot of heavy truck movements. The Clive Motel is not new, but has been kept up to a good standard conssitent with its semi-rural location and price bracket. I have always found it to be clean and well equipped. The people who own it are extremely kind and helpful.
If you are a walker there are wonderful walkways within a few minutes of the motel, down the clive river to the wonderful estuary nearby.

Such a relief to be able to have our dogs with us even though they slept happily in the car, they had access to a lovely fenced garden area from our room number 5. I took a big blanket for the dogs to use when they were in the room which made me feel better!! Kaye is so warm and friendly, the room clean, we were very comfortable. Location is marvellous for walking as it is just around the corner from the track that goes inland and to the beach.

The room was warm, clean, modern, extremely affordable and the location was excellent. Walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants and only a 10 minute drive to the centre of both Hastings and Napier. Cant forget the awesome staff that made my stay all the more memorable. Clive motel has been one of if not the best motel I've stayed at in the country.

What a golden little find. right near the main road, excellent cycle way access and near enough to just about everything. I was there to spend a couple of days with my 10yo, had bikes etc with us and this was a great place. Comfy bed, good shower, AC in the unit and a kitchen, and all with enough space to leave two mountainbikes when we headed off with the car - a pub right across the road, (great pizza!) and a superette just 50m away.

We recently stayed at the Clive Motel for 3 nights with four other couples.
We had the best time and was a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. Our units were well presented and very clean. We were well looked after and nothing was a problem. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We will definitely return.

We stayed overnight here in a King Studio. We needed to stay in Clive and this was the only motel there and so we expected the usual small area basic motel and WERE WE SURPRISED. This motel is fabulous. We arrived early and didn't expect our room to be ready for a couple of hours, checked in with a delightful young lady and were told that the room wasn't ready, then another very nice lady took us over to the motel block and told us that they would get the room ready for us, it was only the floors that needed washing so the ladies doing the cleaning stopped and finished off our room in 5 minutes, and with smiles and waves.
The room itself was huge, beautifully clean, nice decor, kitchen and bathroom, with a spa bath, fantastic! The bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep.
We didn't want to be driving to have a meal so we thought we would try the River Bar Restaurant, which is on the corner, across the road from the Motel. Another wonderful surprise, once again expecting a bar type area and meal. This also was fabulous, we walked in and thought WOW. The decor is classy and trendy, with modern silver and grey wallpaper, nice artwork, comfortable leather chairs and lovely wood tables. The two young people who served us were delightful, lovely smiles and very helpful. We had 2 x fish meals - beautiful fresh groper (don't get that fish very often), very generous portions and beautiful presentation. I can't speak highly enough of this Motel and the Restaurant and the lovely people who work there. They also had a very pleasant young lady singing. Plus there is an outside area with tables and umbrellas - lovely.
It is only a 10 minute drive in one direction to Napier and 10 minutes in the other direction to Hastings.
