Beautifully restored and lovingly maintained by a charming couple who speak several languages. Our rooms were comfortable and spacious, the common areas were welcoming and the food, both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Only suggestion would be if you are vegetarian to give them early...More
Le Grand Hard appeared to be a really cosy and relaxing place just 4 km from famous Utah beach. Adding to that a very good restaurant, you get really a best place at that area. Very friendly owners and staff... Truly recommend!

We stayed there when we were bicycling, no problem. You can take the train to Carentan which is a wonderful town filled with lots of WW II stuff. From Carentan it's a nice ride to Le Grand Hard, we stopped a lot along the way at Dead Man's Corner and a lot of the roadside memorials. Also stopped in St. Marie du Mont at the charcuterie and at the Musee de la Liberation, so we took a round about way to get to Le Grand Hard, maybe 5 hours. I would think you would want to stop at all the same places. From the hotel it's under an hour to Utah Beach, and then it's an easy day trip to all the WWII attractions north. There is so much to see and do in this area that we could have easily spent another couple of days here, but we left to ride the Tour de Manche itinerary to Saint Malo, then down to Rennes.
If you are interested, I wrote about our trip to the D-Day Beaches and Normandy on my website, Experience France By Bike. I would wholeheartedly recommend...not fancy, just nice and comfortable!!! Wonderful bicycling too!!
