Detailed Reviews
This was our second stay in Burns Cottage Retreat - we stayed in Rascal Cottage for 4 glorious nights.
As with our first visit, we were very impressed with the cottage which was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable - peace and tranquility all around us, beautifully tended gardens and such a lovely welcome - we felt like old friends.
It is a testament to Cecilia and Darryl’s impeccable talent to make you feel so welcome and to provide such faultless accommodation with a love and passion for their gorgeous piece of Paradise.
Thank you both and looking forward to our third visit.

What a truly hidden treasure Burn Cottage Retreat is! We had the absolute pleasure of being hosted by Cecilia and Darryl in early April 2021. The warm greeting and freshly baked scones were the start to a wonderful four night stay. The tranquil setting was matched by the delightful and luxurious cottage that became our own little hideaway. The cottage was cozy and warm and well appointed with everything we needed including a barbeque that was ideal for the lovely evenings in the secluded outdoor area. Thank you Cecilia and Darryl for your hospitality and we look forward to seeing you again on the stay we have booked for later in the year.

Yes, the Burn Cottages are in a quiet, secluded place where one can rest and relax, but this place is so much more than that. The garden atmosphere is a delight, and our cottage (Rascal) was perfectly clean, like new, and well-arranged. But, the huge plus was the care and comfort provided by Cecilia during our stay, which happened to coincide with the onset of a Level 4 Coronavirus lockdown. We were faced with cancellations as we approached the end of our road trip through the South Island. Fortunately, the Rascal cottage was available for an extra 3 days beyond our original departure date. Cecilia went out of her way to assure that we were well cared for and updated while navigating through those trying days. For all that we thank her again. Should our future travels find us near Crowell, we will surely not hesitate to book a few "retreat" days at Burn Cottage.

Gosh Ed - I just realised that I hadn't responded to this awesome reveiw that you posted! Very much appreciated and it was our pleasure to help as best as we could under these strange circumstances. We we glad that you finally got home safely after what would have been a very arduous long number of hours! I bet with how things have unfolded in the US that you would have loved to have just camped out in Rascal Cottage instead! Hopefully when things return to a new normal you will be able to get back to NZ and to 'our little piece of paradise' where our welcome mat will most definitely be out for you both. In the mean time, take care and stay safe. Kindest Regards Cecilia and Darryl

Burn Cottage Retreat lived up to our expectations and more. We stayed for a week and were sad to leave. It was the perfect setting to return home to after each day's activities in the Cromwell region. Nestled in a peaceful valley, it's well positioned a few minutes from town and as a central base for exploring the wider area as we did. The cottages are surrounded by extensive gardens that add a restful element to the very comfortable accommodation. Hosts Gill and Noel were most welcoming, going out of their way to provide extras (such as fresh scones and Nespresso coffee) that made our stay truly memorable. The Dunstan Bike Trail is a must do (e-bikes are very popular). Desert Heart winery in Bannockburn serves exquisite platters along with their first class wines. The Crown Range road (NZ's highest main road) from Arrow Junction to Wanaka offers some spectacular views. And of course, the stone fruit and settled weather make this area the perfect destination in March.

Thank you for your lovely review Paula. We are so pleased you both enjoyed your stay. Burn Cottage Retreat is a very special place, as we are still discovering, and part of that uniqueness is that it is a peaceful oasis where you can relax and feel like your in the country and yet it is only a short drive to town. I hope all your family and friends enjoyed the lovely Central Otago fruit. Hopefully we'll get to see you again some time in the future.

Our three days at Burn Cottage were absolutely delightful. The cottage is more spacious than we expected and has every amenity for a relaxing stay. It’s easy to while away the hours, reading in the cottage, wandering through the beautiful landscaped gardens, or setting out to explore the Central Otago area by car or bike.
The hosts Gill and Noel were charming, attentive and helpful with local knowledge.
Definitely a place to return to!

Thank you so much for your awesome comments and review - very much appreciated. It was lovely having you both to stay in 'our little piece of paradise' and people like yourselves make working in our business a pleasure as opposed to a job. Delighted to hear that you want to come back again and for longer - you will be greeted with a very warm welcome! Hope you have a great trip back to lovely PalmyNorth and enjoy your holiday in our stunningly beautiful Otago. Kindest Regards Cecilia and Darryl

The Burn Cottage Retreat was simply a little piece of heaven and just what we needed after many days on the road. Noel snd Gill were wonderful hosts, and have an eye for detail that we, as seasoned travelers, appreciated. “Rascal Cottage” where we stayed was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Our cottage was nestled in a wonderful garden setting. Private and serene. Sitting on the shaded porch was sublime. Made even better by Gill’s delicious Breakfast Backet, stuffed with fresh local goodies. We shall cherish our memories there.

We have returned to Burn Cottages for their specialty - a relaxing retreat. Spacious cottages with lovely amenities, all spotlessly clean and a beautiful garden in a peaceful location. Everything has been tended to with such loving care and as a treat for the travellers who stay here. We had sunshine and rain but the varied facilities met our needs perfectly.
Friendly hosts with time to update us on the new things to do in this great central Otago area are also an asset.
We highly recommend and will return!

This lovely cottage set in beautiful surroundings has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Everything provided in the cottage is to a high standard.
