Our three nights at Bannockburn house were truly a little slice of heaven and left us feeling refreshed, inspired and incredibly well-looked after.

The property sits overlooking the historic golden Bannockburn hills, with no other houses in close sight, so the feeling is instantly quite private from the lodge suite where we stayed. Our lovely balcony was just above a little hollow in the hillside with a burbling brook and the sound of the wind in the trees at night. The clear, starry night skies were breathtaking, and Julia even provided super soft blankets to keep us warm as we gazed at the Milky Way. Winter sky gazing was even more cosy with a glass of gorgeous local wine in hand, (Bannockburn is one of New Zealand’s most famous wine regions, and the likes of wineries like Felton Road are within walking distance of the BnB). And a sky-light window in our room allowed us to enjoy the stars from our super comfortable bed (We woke up feeling well rested every morning.)

We didn’t want for anything during our stay. It was the middle of winter, but we felt warm and cosy with radiant heating throughout the house. Really great water pressure in the shower, and super clean all around! It felt like our room was brand new. And all the little design details, from the drapes to the chandeliers to the locally inspired photography and art on the walls all created a very stylish feel.

Most importantly, Chris and Julia are those wonderful types of people who you hope to know. Genuine. Welcoming. Thoughtful. Fun. They’re the real deal. They go out of their way to make the experience at their place memorable and special but in the most natural way. Ask them for wine recommendations or where to go for awesome hiking in Central Otago. For a full low-down on the weather and how to prepare for your hike, Chris has you covered. They care about what they do and it really shows. You might even get some cuddles from their beloved cat Lenni if you’re lucky. For a superb wine and dining experience, all you have to do is take a 750 meter walk down the road to the Bannockburn hotel. And if you’re keen to go out to Queenstown without staying in the city overnight, you’re still only a 45 min drive away.

We can’t recommend this place enough.

Our rooms were so private with a huge sleigh comfortable bed, TV (with Netflix), a separate dressing room and a double bathroom with a stand alone bath looking out to the hills with quail etc running on the field outside.
Fluffy Sheridan towels, robes and slippers provided.
We also had our own deck and outdoor seating to watch the birds, enjoy the birdsong or just sit and relax..
The house is about 5 mins from Central Bannockburn and the Bannockburn Historic Hotel, Black Rabbit cafe etc
In the morning you stroll to the dining room (30 seconds inside walk :)) to be greeted by Chris and Julia and a delicious fresh breakfast. Types of fruit, yoghurts, 3 x cereals. Warm croissants with jam and butter. Toast/muffins/baps etc and Chris's famous Bacon sandwich - yum!!
All this with a selection of juices and fresh coffee.
Chris and Julia are a wealth of knowledge of local wineries, restaurants, walks, activities etc but do not interfere in any way. Perfect hosts!
Guests have their own fridge stocked with organic juice, mineral water and milk for the capsule coffee. Also supplied is chocolate and biscuits.
Just perfect!!

My sister and I recently stayed for 3 nights at Bannockburn House in the cottage. We had read previous reviews and knew this was the perfect accommodation for us while basing ourselves near Cromwell. The architecture and setting transports you right into the Tuscan countryside. We weren’t disappointed! The cottage was most spacious with a large living room space and two bedrooms. The larger room had a queen bed and small second room had a comfortable futon. All the added extras were appreciated- a wide selection of tea and coffee bags, good quality toiletries and shampoo/ conditioner. There is also a well equipped laundry in the cottage which we also utilised. Breakfast was included and what a treat that was! A selection of muesli, fruit and yoghurt, followed by croissants, crumpets and toast. The delicious hot option was bacon in a ciabatta bun. We were very well set up for a day of wine tasting at the local wineries. We did a day tour with Roaring Wine tours and were picked up from the cottage. Bannockburn House is also an easy stroll to the historic Bannockburn Hotel where the food was superb. See my separate reviews on both of these!
Book your stay in Bannockburn/ Cromwell at Bannockburn House and you won’t be disappointed! Julia and Chris are wonderful hosts.

Peace and tranquillity is what you get when staying in this lovely home and setting.
Our room and en-suite was very spacious and we had a great outlook from our unit. A fridge filled with soft drinks, water and milk for Nespresso coffee or tea, plus chocolates and cookies.
The continental breakfast was exceptional and the breakfast specialty cooked by Chris was the bacon butties. Delish!
A couple of excellent restaurants in walking distance. When making a booking, Julia will offer to reserve a table at the Bannockburn Hotel for you which is a must! Cannot wait for our next visit to Central Otago so we can stay again at the Bannockburn House.

A friend and I stayed at Bannockburn House for three nights recently and it was the highlight of our trip to Central Otago. Enjoyed the well equipped comfortable cottage and were looked after beautifully by Chris and Julia. Elected to have breakfast in the main house and so glad we did. Didn’t phase them we were both gluten free - the bacon sandwich Chris made me for breakfast was to die for and the gf cereals delicious. Very handy to Mt Difficulty Vineyards, Bannockburn Sluicings and the amazingly renovated Bannockburn Hotel. Walked every street in Bannockburn to get a feel of the place and enjoyed the scent of the wild thyme growing on the hills. Highly recommend this accommodation. Can’t wait to go back.

We stayed two nights in the cottage in this beautiful location. Julia & Chris are fantastic hosts and can recommend all sorts of activities, restaurants, wineries, things to do and places to see.

The cottage was well equipped with a lovely bathroom, living area and two bedrooms.

For breakfast, there is a huge selection of cereals, fruit and croissants, but the highlight (as for previous reviewers) is Chris’s bacon butty!

The Bannockburn Hotel has a fantastic restaurant and is only a few minutes walk away, whilst Cromwell and some local wineries are only a few minutes drive away.

This is a beautiful place to stay if you’re after a relaxing few days in Central Otago.

We had 3 lovely nights, so quiet and relaxing. It was very private and we had the place to ourselves. Tea, Coffee, juice and snacks available and local cherries which were in season.
Breakfast was the best we have had anywhere. Chris and Julia looked after us so well but allowed us plenty of space to be alone.
Black Rabbit cafe and the Bannockburn Hotel were an easy walk away so we could have a wine or two.
This would be a lovely couple of days away in Winter as well with an amazing bathroom, radiators and underfloor heating that wasn't needed in Summer. I can imagine soaking in the bath with a book and a wine with snow on the hills.
This would be a great place to stay at anytime of the year.

We stayed in the Bellbird suite for three nights and we absolutely loved our stay. The room was beautiful and the bed was comfortable. The views from the bath and from the outside patio were amazing. The coffee machine, selection of hot and cold drinks and biscuits were a thoughtful touch. Chris and Julia were amazing hosts who had excellent recommendations for activities in the region and places to eat. They also made us delicious breakfasts each day. We would highly recommend this place and we can't wait to come back!

This place was suggested to us by a good friend for our visit to Cromwell. It ticked all the boxes, provided a great base and lived up to expectation. We would certainly use again. Although no indoor cooking facilities there was a proper Weber BBQ on the small terrace. Good selection of items for continental breakfast and a few goodies in the fridge as well. A great selection of DVD's if you need a lazy afternoon even. Well positioned for a visit to the pub/hotel a couple of hundred metres down the road which is worth a visit
